Everyone got one of them for free. You find it on the character you were last online with. If you want to use it on an item which is on a different character you need to transfer the item. More exchanges can be bought through marketplace auctions.

Still a good build. I would recommend getting high IF if you didn't have it before. 7 IF gives you 14 armor weight wpf cap instead of the old 10. With no IF your cap is 8 (str/3+1).

San, is this actually accurate? Getting 76.1 less wpf from having 9 powerdraw so 170 wpf becomes 96 and thats before any armor wpf reduction. Since you need 13*powerdraw in wpf to make use of your given powerdraw, your actual effective powerdraw drops to 7, which means effective powerdraws of 9 or 10 impossible. From what I understood of this patch strength archers would still be effective despite the numerous buffs to agility in this patch and previous ones (IF requirement really doesn't do anything except make you wear lighter armor, which you should be doing as archer anyway).

oh, another "fuck the archers" patch. Who would have guessed.
Strength archers are buffed. The 96 is from the PD reduction, no need to apply it twice. Strength archers before would've had ~40-50 after it before with lower level builds.
The old armor penalty for ranged was ((Effective weight - 10)^1.12 ) * 2.5, which hurt strength archers the most. The new one is based off your original wpf, 1.5x the melee penalty, and changing 10 to the new threshold. The penalty is overall lower than the old one. If you have 170 wpf, 10 effective weight now gives you a 17 wpf penalty when before it would've been 25. 139 wpf, typical for a strength archer, would have a 14wpf penalty. So if you're ranged, don't be afraid to grab some IF and wear medium-light armor.
It's good to remember that 1 point in PD increases your accuracy by the equivalent of 20wpf, the reason for the PD penalty. The -3 damage from bows also essentially gave them +2 accuracy, so they're even more accurate now.

Dunno if this is known yet but you can't pick up the two handed throwing axe after you throw it. It also shows up as a bow after it's dropped or thrown. I tried to pick it up with 120 WPF naked, didn't work.

Yes I agree 100% with this, but i feel they were hit far too hard. They have been capped at 15 damage (basicly nothing) and they move slower. I would love to see the cap raised to make them still slightly playable and not just down right useless.The cap was meant for just HA, but it was a bit of an oversight. It's really just there to keep horse ranged from harassing low-medium armored players too much. I'd still like to keep, but raise the threshold for hx and ht, then reduce the reload speed penalty that HX had added in about a year ago.

About 5 herloom points,that's probably some sort of bug,i don't know.But now,if you retire,you start as lvl 25,not lvl 1.

some things that I think need changed:
rocks are walk-though
irish halberd needs a little nerf on that stab. it's basically an elegant with 4 more stab damage.
horse-ranged need to have their points reduced, they still get points as if they do full damage.
Guisarme needs to be balanced a little better, it's a cut-bec that is longer, hopliteable, and useable on horseback.
the two 2h axes that got added also need nerfing in one way or another.
You're thinking of the Swardstaeevvvv not the Jew'sArm. The Jew'sArm can't be used on horseback, or with a shield. But it's only 38c on swing, which is really low. Like Military Scythe low, plus its on the slow side.

You reduced bow damage because higher level meant higher PD (also means the people theya re shooting ahve higher IF and athletics adn shield and riding to dodge or take more hits). But what were yout hinking reducing short bow's damage by 3 and the other lower tier bows that do already nonexistent damage. 5 PD is the max bonus short bow can get for damage, higher level wont make it hurt more (maybe 1-2% more with 1 more weaponmaster). Please fix this and rethink what youa re doing. I dont think you read what i said. i stated that PD was not adding more damage after 5 PD and having 1 more weaponmaster with higher level adds roughly 11-15 more wpf (155 to 170 e.g.). Since 100 wpf = 8% damage, roughly 1/7th to 1/10th of 100 wpf adds roughly 1-2% more damage. Short bow has never been an OP bow, very low damage. It absolutely did not need damage reduction. Kesh you are right. But only about pd not helping after you reach 5. The rest of your post is wrong. Again, you're right about the PD stuff, just wrong on the mechanics of wpf. WPF's affects on damage depend on how much PS/PT/PD you have, and exactly how much wpf you have. 100 > 110 is not the same as 150>160. Furthermore, the 1 pd bow isn't really of too much importance (it shouldn't be competitive with the others) as it's really only there for strat and low levels.

Albeit it could have been sooner, maybe 6 months to a year (absolute max a year though imho) -- it simply have not been possible until now.
We've tried a lot of times to get something big together but it always fell flat on it's head and we had to settle for much less, first now with the additions to the cRPG team of Panuru, Matt2507, Senni_Ti and Huscarlton_Banks -- together with San/Tydeus and all the guys donating their items and time for feedpack/advice etc (Thanks cassia, daruviuan, jona, blackbow, _Tak_, cFlames & Battlepriest, apologies if I forgot someone) -- we've been able to push something like this ahead within reasonable time. It takes a lot of manpower and a lot of hours and so far all the volunteers who tried bailed out and usually without a word :cry: leaving a lot of stuff unfinished that then had to be reworked on top of the original "job". We (MBG devs) also took out a chunk of time off from MBG to discuss these changes and see them through, time that could have been spent developing MBG.
We'll continue to monitor the effects of this patch of course, work out the kinks and issues and hopefully even improve it for the better as we see how everything comes together after a couple of weeks.
I'm personally not 100% happy, there's still some things that needs a kick in the butt in terms of fiddling and tweaking 8-) but overall I'm having fun, much more fun than previously!
I was trying archery with my stf lvl 35 now of course, with 24/24 build, 8 WM 8 PD and 4 PS, and I must say, even though I didn't ask people, I was making pretty good damage, I think archers shouldn't complain to too much and just click with the right build :)

Indeed. Personally I always go for the headshots as they are the most rewarding shots. High risk sometimes perhaps, but high reward.
I prefer 18 str and higher agility as accuracy is more important than pure damage (10+ PD etc).

Tested it on strat battle too - 10 PD with 155 wpf MW longbow and MW bodkins arrows - doing 1/3rd the damage of melee players, next to no kills - takes 7-8 arrows to kill anyone without a headshot. You need to check your code, foot archers were underpowered before the patch now they are pretty useless. Pretty much any class can do significantly more damage in the same amount of time, get better K/D, and more score.Played 27-15 archer and was doing like 20-25 damage against good armor with MW rus bow and bodkins. I don't think you really need 7-8 arrows to kill people with 10 PD. Well, if you don't count missed shots.
To test it out, I was doing the absolute MAXIMUM of damage an archer can do with that setup and it takes 7-8 arrows to kill people, so much worse for archers that dont want to do min-max build. I can literally switch to melee with 0 powerstrike on that same character and do more damage and get a higher score - that's broken. Or try and use anything but MW longbow or bodkins. Normal arrows useless - dont even do enough damage to get 1 point in score.

Played 27-15 archer and was doing like 20-25 damage against good armor with MW rus bow and bodkins. I don't think you really need 7-8 arrows to kill people with 10 PD. Well, if you don't count missed shots.

That was with the best bow and best arrows against plate. Most archers do less than 5 damage to those same characters with any other type of arrow. Using my unloomed horn bow and unloomed arrows with an 18-27 build i was shooting people in roughly 40 body armor and getting 0 points because the damage was so low it couldn't even rise to the level of getting 1 point. Shooting lightly armored people (with looms 40 body armor is basically aketon with low tier gloves) and taking 6-7 arrows to kill them is very unbalanced.
The new meta is 21-24, 18-27 builds with 7 and 6 ironflesh respectively with the high levels now available. Thats the same survivability as the 27 strength character i was mentioning except with 4 ironflesh. I wasn't even comparing against people in plate with 13 ironflesh who would have taken 20+ arrows to kill. It was not selectively choosing. The typical player has a minimum 50 body armor (often more) thanks to looms and 65+ hitpoints now. With high PD, +3 bow and +3 bodkins thats 4-5 arrows to kill the average player (not even the super tanks). The real problem is if you don't use the absolute min-max of the class and actually want to use different arrows and bows and lower powerdraw it becomes 7-8 arrows to kill an average player in-game if not more.
Basically I just build an agility melee character that runs around and 1-2 shots all the archers who are the only ones on battlefield wearing truly light armor (less than 40). Last couple days just farming valour off archers and they can't do anything about it because they do almost no damage to my character and usually will miss anyway since high agility characters are good counter to archers - its very easy to dodge archers' shots with high athletics.
To put in a good melee comparison - my 27-21 1h no shield using mw nordic war sword with 34 cut - I swing once kill a donkey, swing twice kill the rider, swing a 3rd time time kill another donkey and swing a 4th time kill a donkey rider - 35 points in score for damage. With 6 PD, MW horn bow normal arrows (27 cut), I shoot 10 arrows (almost half my quiver) into various people usually about 2-3 in any given person, 0 kills, 8 score. THIS IS UNBALANCED!
P.S. i would prefer anyone but Tydeus look into archery as he does not appear impartial from his various posts and he has a history of wrecking actual item balance with anything he changes. I'm not looking to be OP, I'm just looking to have actual balance in comparison with other classes and not be a primarily useless class like a pitchfork wielding 1 powerstrike peasant.

Period. End of discussion. This isn't a balance decision. This is a game design decision. You saw it with the recent HA nerfs, you saw it 3 years ago when kiting was initially killed off and then again when ammo weights were increased. I'm sorry.
We will have to find some other way to make low pd playstyles more enjoyable, if people no longer find them fun, that isn't increased damage. I'm going over high PD atm on my stf, and I'll be switching back to lower PD tomorrow morning or the next day to play with low pop. I told San in irc that higher ammo should be on the table, but it can't really be discussed without looking at the other end of the spectrum, as well as in-between. We can talk about other stuff after I've thoroughly explored things.

I'm confused, why would you go 12/33 as an archer?Read my past few posts in this thread, as well as some of kesh's eariler ones. I'm going over all of archery atm, it's just a coincidence that I started with agility.

That seems fair enough to me.
Right now archers need to actually pick a proper target and aim carefully for it due to less damage on tanks and less arrows. It takes more skill. Skill that is demonstrated by "real" archers like Steevee, Bagge and Algarn (despite Algarn not admitting that he keeps topping the scoreboard often enough).
When a guy moves slow and has high armor, either don't shoot him or you better hit his head. Like it's supposed to be.
When a guy moves really fast and has light armor, that is your target... and he will die in 3-4 proper hits.
Shooting at tanks and then complaining that they actually do tank, contrary to what we had before, does not make sense.
Personally, I don't think that ranged players, including myself as Semi-Xbow, should be able to get valor due to the low-risk that you run as a ranged player.

If a lancer 'kited endlessly' you'd kick it for delaying and noone could even dispute that to be a fair kick, whereas HAs in theory are still 'fighting' as they do it.

Firstly, I've played melee and I've played archer, and they are both hard in different ways. They are different parts of the game. Trying to say one entire class CONCEPT is not worthy and should only be in the game if they aren't allowed to be what they are, most of the time... that's rough. That IS how this patch feels, also - that archers are being told, "Don't exist. If you insist upon existing, it has been ensured that this will be very unpleasant for you, and you really will spend most of your time being a gimped melee class." I trust though that staff is not deliberately doing that, and will reconsider what's happened at some point.I assume you're referring to my kiting statement. Hardly any archers ever just drop only 1 quiver in the heat of battle just to move slightly faster - if they drop quiver they drop both and the bow to get away.

With that setup using the damage calculator against "good" armor then you would be doing roughly 15 points of damage a shot (of course with reduced damage 1-2 shots do no damage at all, i.e. glance). With 27 str 9 ironflesh character you would still take 6 arrows to kill + the 1-2 glancing hits. Now, for actual damage amounts that I have seen, as I have my damage reporter turned on 99% of the time, so I see how much damage I do on just about every single shot I make. The 10PD build I run does 20 damage minimum to everything. I don't get lower than that unless I'm wasting arrows shooting long distance shots that more often than not, just turn out to be a wasted arrow. Most of my hits on melee are for about 30 damage. What's more, my crosshairs are almost fully closed with that 10PD build (they fully close with the Rus Bow). Remember, STF character, so there's more potential to be had (higher wm/athletics/ps, not to mention a better archer than I).
On the 4PD build the lowest I have seen while playing so far, is 6 damage. Most of my hits do about 15 damage on NA. This build performs worse for eu as the average armor level is significantly higher. This is the one thing that has me leaning towards raiding damage. As to the damage one does with Arrows... If you are using a low pd build and arrows, you don't get to complain about low damage. That's like complaining about how ineffective a cloth shirt or practice sword is.

By increasing accuracy by 24 wpf worth, as well as greatly reducing wpf penalties for certain builds, on top of increasing levels to allow for more attribute points, we've allowed players to maintain their same (or nearly so) effective accuracy with less wm and more pd in their builds. With PD being 14% per level, it becomes rather easy to receive a damage increase while maintaining the same, or better accuracy.

New pretty cool surcoat over mail - seemingly great, there is any ugly bug with shoes, but between the legs an old ugly texture and any gloves fit perfectly meanwhile the good old kuyak is ideal and have no defects.

Read patchI haven't played thrower or xbower as I've been focusing on archery. San and Macropus seem to think throwers are fine for the most part and archery, just so long as you're not playing a build from 2012 or a low pd build (1-4, maybe even 5) your build will likely be a bit poor. Accuracy is at the minute, a bit overrated for most archer builds. The idea that as an archer, you have to strive for the highest WM possible, is over.

This is a medieval warfare game, not a 2h/polearm lightsaber duel sim. Archery is in the game for a reason, to be able to pick off melee and being able to support the team from distance. Now, anyone with a cookie-cutter STR build can take a dozen hits from an archer and be able to run him down and kill him, without any use of tactics or thinking whatsoever. It doesn't matter if ranged is "low-risk", that's the point of it; ranged should be able to kill people just as well as two-handers can.
I hate Kesh, and I think he's the worst nerd to ever play this shitty mod, but he's right. You fucked up Tydeus. I thought your earlier changes were ok. But changing the game like this to fit your own ideal of what the game should be like is just downright absurd and self-centered.

Erm "fixing" archery in any meaningful way, if your aim is to avoid kiting, is not possible by weight: drop my bow and arrows and run off is still viable
We did the athletics cap thing before, actually. It was a dynamic cap that shik made and it lasted for about a day. The problem with it, is that it affects all builds, not just the agility focused ones and the effects are larger than simply adding weight which can more easily have its effect reduced(dropping your bow). It goes back to wanting to maintain a high degree of player choice and customization, something we saw many players concerned with due to the previous horse requirement increases.

Using inverted attacks does not give you bonus speed. It's very common however to move your camera in the same direction as your swing. This means you have to do two mouse movements with normal. Instantly swinging looks spastic. Its one of the drawbacks of M&B that inverted is in the game, but even if it wasn't, tryhards would have a 3rd party program to do it anyway, much as they use for weapons, foliage, weather, etc.

Also it is risky for agi builds since, in my experience, it was much easier to glance since your aim when using inverted is to hiltslash like mad, and since I rarely have above 18 STR, its easy to glance.
If you increase your mouse sensitivity you can swing faster..doesn't mean you will play better. Swinging fast isn't really what you want in this game, its timing when you release the swing and other stuff. Separating the chamber from the release with different mouse movements has its benefits too imo.
Other things are more important like FPS, input delay, ping, monitor hertz, mouse sensor accuracy, sensitivity, muscle memory, how much you practice, intuition etc

Its produced masses of super fast spam where the higher levels mean people take min strength for a longsword/miadao/greatsword/bec/great long axe/great long bardiche, chuck the rest in agi for athletics and weapon master then spam like loonies.
Decreased levels would've made the forums explode for sure. Other than athletics, it's mostly going to be the same if items are changed. The balancers were thinking of putting -1 speed on everything, but there was a wait and see approach for how wpf penalties were going to be higher for agi builds.You're right. Now, does inverted attacks make sense? No, it does not, the organic feeling that M&B combat gives stems from normal attacks: you bring your weapon back, then swing it.

Dude I'm a classic 2hand hero abuser for years in cRPG because its so easy to stomp scrubs with spam and hilt slashes and crap, but I've also played plenty of 1hander and try to always do really easy OP shit for good KDs and having fun.
Since 1hand stab got buffed, get a faster high pierce weapon and just stab the shit out of people. Dunno how OP it is now (like polearm overhead) but the stab with 101+ speed weapons and standing directly in front of people I could just keep stabbing as bad players tried to respond with blocks or attacks, or just keep held thrusts while darting around ganking people with surprise shanks and repeated support stabs the moment they get distracted.
And remember that if you use good footwork you can spam left swings really close for repeated high damage head hits with very little effort. Dunno how right swing is anymore but you can just backpedal and spam that if any 2hander or polearm tries to spam you and you will win the scrub tier trade with zero damage and easy kills if you can abuse max reach.
If you keep your shield up too much you are instantly going to be seen as bad and someone will spam you for a quick kill, its like pub stomp chum..

Instead of scaling all the levels up so that the current high level range is from 35-38, all the levels should have been scaled down, so that the range is from 30-33. That way the level gap is still relatively small, and not everyone has insane builds. Warband's mechanics simply don't translate well beyond level 30, as we saw where all the old level 36s had massively OP builds. Now we have everyone running around with a level 35, if not even higher, build.

The patch didn't fail. It really delivered and flourished for a while.
The old age of the game and mod are the only culprits. As everything in our world, the mod succumbed to this mighty titan, Time.

Just make the average level range go from 34-37 to 30-33 and you won't have to even try and attempt to balance high level optimized builds. The warband engine was not designed to accommodate for builds far above level 30, and the last patch made it worse than ever before.These higher levels just don't work and it made the mod less enjoyable.

I can't even begin to understand how people defend them like it was a good choice. "The Mod flourished" for like a week because people were fucking around with builds freely. Warband on such high levels with gear that was "balanced???" before-hand for people with a lot less points to work with.
Then the mod just sits in a turd of a state but you're making a game as the successor to it? Oh man that can only reflect well on your upcoming game.
