I miss the previous male voices. I noticed one was missing (I think it was QAA ("attack!")).

Maybe QQV would be cooler if you recorded it as if you were really angry at the time and you really wanted to kill someone. Like this:

The balance isn't broken, you can just freely switch from one team to another as you please = everyone goes to the same team and wins :D

This way the new balance system doesn't even get to work.

Can the new voice pack please be an option in the menu that can be seleced\de-selected or something?  Those that don't like it shouldn't have to spend the time to revert to the old sounds each time some patch comes out.

Thumbs up for the matchmaking/team balance effort! Not sure how it works in-game yet, havent tried but seems it could use some optimizing/tweaking :) Under all circumstances, 1000 thumbs up for effort/attempt/trying.

It doesn't work. I made a simple mistake where I commented out a vital part of the script that tied score to, well, the autobalance system as a whole. This has been fixed, but we still reverted the test anyway. I don't know if it will "fix" autobalance, but it just means I'll have to do a real test(with more than just 5 people), not a live one.

Actually, i think its completely opposite. When people see that there is stuff done (eventho it doesnt work perfectly) or tests, they are more comfortable and ensured, compared to when people see nothing is done, not even an attempt.

Urist just fixed the MotF bug (from native). So next time chadz patches, we'll have that in. Hopefully I'll have tested my AB change by the next patch and can have that in there as well.

Any groups up for a test(I need 20+ people for a real test)? Maybe we can give testers the Boulder on a Stick/Looney Toons Axe.  :twisted:

LOL Tydouche, hahahaha, you could have just given us valor back, you know that mechanic that made the game fun, even with all the bullshit players deal with. The one mechanic that solved all of the problems from banner balance to builds to w.e.

Instead of off just giving us our fun back you once again aim to improve the mod, and the sheep applaud  you for it, but i wont hold my breathe, everything you touch makes the game less fun, and more players leave because of it, why chadz still trusts you, idk, you must suck dick pretty good or something, it makes no sense to keep a guy on a project, who continually fucks up the project.

And thats my "fuck you Tydeus" rant for the day.

Alright then. I'm scheduling a test forlater today at 3:00 PM (15:00) East / 11:00 PM (23:00) GMT+2. The server will be called cRPG_Tyd_Testbed. You'll have to search "Internet" for the server with filters turned off. You'll likely also have to wait until the very end of the search, which could take a few minutes, to be able to find the server.

We need as many people as possible, so tell people about it, join and then just start fighting. That's all there really is to it. To test properly, we have to simulate a normal battle setting, so we need a decent number of players, and then we just play a few maps of battle to see how it works and what needs tweaking.

Edit: Just going to reschedule for next weekend, due to time overlap with the World Cup Final. It will be scheduled for July 19th at 2:00 PM (14:00 EST)/ 10:00 PM (22:00) GMT+2.

Old voices were a funny joke. New ones try to be more serious, but fail hard. Very hard. Like, went to your local highschool and had 13 yr olds do the voices.

"Fallow me", it sounds like the voice actually cracks. Feel kinda stupid being a fully armed death machine...with a voice still going through puberty.

Not sure if i should put it here. Not sure if you are aware or not either but the QAA doesnt work anymore. 3.3.8 had the QAA (finally! yay!) but then it disappeared again with 3.3.9  :cry: Not really a biggie but i just think it was a nice alternative to the spammed CHARGE.

There is a discrepancy between the names of the attack_attack sound files and how they are listed in the sounds.txt.  You can either change the names of the sound files from vc_1_attack_attack_1.ogg etc to vc_1_attack_attack1.ogg etc or you can change the entries in sounds.txt to match the sound files.  Either way will fix the problem.

Missing commands will be readded. The sounds are recorded.

Male voices are pitched to a too high frequency, which makes them sound smurfish.

Anyway, both issues are on our list and will be fixed.


We also discussed adding more voicesets for different charstyles - corresponding to a chareditor setting.

The implementation process consists of taking the old file name, making sure the naming scheme is correct, then copy+pasting for how many different versions of that command there are, renaming them, and doing that for all 569 or however many sound files there were (took 4 hours). Needless to say, I wasn't implementing them sober and only had one other person help me test them, so it's no surprise that there are a few bugs.  :lol:

Just let Fin or myself know as you find new bugs and we'll see about getting them fixed.

I like the voices overall. I can see the work that went into it for consistency and offering varied sounds to reduce the repetition. You can't please everyone with sounds and voices, so consistency and thoroughness are the main thing. I assume they will be tweaked over time to polish them up.

That being said, the ones that stuck out as not so good for me:

The dying noise that sounds like vomiting. Brings a really different image to mind when I hear it.

A lot of the female sounds are OK but sound kinda wimpy/whiny. Find a friend who does sports or martial arts, and the shouts will be much more 'serious'. Right now they sound like scared children trying to be tough.

I have no personal issue with the FU one, but I wonder if I had kids in the house... I know that a lot of us gamer geeks don't tend to imagine that family folks play these games, but they do, and it's probably unnecessary to make it harder for them. I know headphones exist but again, making things harder, more 'I have to hide this from the fam' probably isn't helpful to expanding the range of players.

the evolution of the voice commands is appreciated.

Still: anyone made a backup of the previous ones? They had that "hey who tortured my transsexual granma" feel, esp. the female ones. Bit annoying after a couple days, but freaking funny.

Throwing lances are really shitty now. Before : 1 lance to kill a horse. Now : 3 lances...

After ranged penetration removed, it had the side effect of nerfing the throwing lance the most. Right now, 6 ammo of +3 throwing lances deal the same total damage as the old +3 throwing lances with the extra penetration. Damage is now simply more evenly distributed with more versatility as well. Pure throwers have a use for 0 slot throwing weapons for once. Throwing knives, buckler, and 1slot weapons add some more options while keeping similar total power to how it was before. 2 stacks of throwing lances and 1 stack of throwing daggers total damage mirrors 4 stacks of jarids, leaving one 0 slot item to spare.

Additionally, lighter horses received a slight hp increase, so there's a combination of effects at play.

After ranged penetration removed, it had the side effect of nerfing the throwing lance the most. Right now, 6 ammo of +3 throwing lances deal the same total damage as the old +3 throwing lances with the extra penetration. Damage is now simply more evenly distributed with more versatility as well. Pure throwers have a use for 0 slot throwing weapons for once. Throwing knives, buckler, and 1slot weapons add some more options while keeping similar total power to how it was before. 2 stacks of throwing lances and 1 stack of throwing daggers total damage mirrors 4 stacks of jarids, leaving one 0 slot item to spare.

Additionally, lighter horses received a slight hp increase, so there's a combination of effects at play.

So... Why would anyone pick throwing lances above other throwing? What is the advantage of the throwing lances compared to the other throwing weapons vs. upkeep/"mirrior-damage"? It is the highest damage/difficult throwing weapon.

That being said, this version of voices is not so good.  The version immediately before this was way better.  More urgent and badass.  Except the yell, that was bad because there was no variety.

Man, how can you say that if I almost peed my pants listening to the last version's voices. It sounded as if  a bunch of parrots in crack where  trying to fuck a bunch of crows on heroine.

that is the black magic of patches. After every patch EVERYthing feels shittier/strange/"not right".

After EVERY patch I suspect THEM to have screwed with missile speed/drop/archery mechanics, because we have come to expect nothing good as archers, and after every patch archery feels fucked up, even if nothing has been changed, LOL...  :mad:

How to restore Voicecommands to V1 / native / V2:


To Restore V1:

    Exe the launcher and Repair CRPG.
    Download the old Soundfiles and put them into your crpg/sounds folder (replace the old ones if asked).
    Download the sounds.txt and replace the sounds.txt in your crpg main folder

I started making a specific list of voice recordings that caught my attention as not working well for one reason or another. But keep in mind, overall I think this was a good thing - good ideas, nice consistency as I said before, good to have males and females actually separate now, quite a few good recordings. Therefore, I only need to point out a few things that I would tweak if it were in my control to do so.

Most of the issues I had were the commands that sounded too casual, laid back, and otherwise chatting on a street corner instead of being in combat. Having done mass fighting scenarios of various kinds in RL, I guarantee that even if you are just saying Thank You, you are kinda shouting it with some intensity across a noisy area. There isn't much "Welp." "Heya." "What a lovely day we're having."

So pretty much, anything that sounds like the people have forgotten they are in battle kinda don't work for me. I don't need to point them out individually probably - but I will if it's useful.

Other ones so far that have other issues:

(female) "Attack their cavalry!" Weirdly pronounced like "Attack their ca-val-----REEEEE".

(female) battle scream. Sounds warbly, cracking, and like a kid who had a spider tossed in their hair. Not real serious.

(female) "ARCHERS!" Probably this was someone trying to do a British accent but failing. Sorry if it was an actual British person, but I don't know any accent that uses the A that way "ATCH-ers" with a flat A. Very strange.

(female) "Thank you kind sir." Several problems. She sounds like she's at tea, and some of us being thanked aren't sirs. Best to leave it at Thank You and pump up the volume a bit.

(female) one of the death gurgles. I think you'd all know the one. Sounds like a petulant child having to go to bed.

(M-F) Death vomit. Enough said.

It was easier for me to test the female sounds because I could just go into an empty game and test them. I'm keeping an ear out for the male sounds and most of the complaints I have with them so far are the super casual tones of some of them and the overall too high pitch of many (but you know about that already.) If I find more specific ones, I'll edit them into the list.

Do I expect people to take my list and jump on it and do everything I want? No! But I figure if one is to critique, they ought to be specific.

Not everybody has english as native language, I would also think it would be funny to have some commands with a heavy russian accent. Or something really german like "attack ze raight flenk!"

First of all, you should notice it's Awlpoke, not Awlpike, okay.
It can't be loomed. It should have the initial stats of a +3 Awlpike therefore. It didn't. It does now.

Sorry if I came off too harsh Sniger! It's OK that it isn't especially accurate. This is a fantasy game and most of us are looking for more of a 'feel' than a perfect replication of a real world moment and place in time. I just wanted to be sure people were aware that it was renn-faire speak, not actually medieval or even consistent in its own usage, so they knew what they were using if they wanted to use it.

If someone would like to see a blog that uses much more accurate English medieval grammar and vocabulary (even while making parodies of Paris Hilton) there is this: http://houseoffame.blogspot.com/ (otherwise known as Geoffrey Chaucer Hath a Blog.)

There are also links there that do show how to read and understand medieval English.

I also do not expect or even want that to be used in CRPG. I think renn-faire speak would be absolutely fine in CRPG but I just don't want people assuming it's historically accurate.

I only play battleserver anyways. You got my minus because you care so much about valour and score that you even decide to become an annoyance(HA) for eveybody else. This is a poor decission and I feel pity for you.
