Getting into modelling, need ideas.

I'm trying to get into modelling for Warband so I can perhaps make some stuff for cRPG one day.
I started off by making this. It's my first model ever and I'm having trouble texturing it.
(click to show/hide)
It's an early 13c full face helm. Like I said I'm finding it hard to texture.

My 2nd model.

It's an early 13c great lance.

So, I want to practice more. But don't know what to make. So, tell me, what do you want to see?

Basicly you just take a metal texture an try to get your UVW even everywhere (with black and white square texture)

Yea, It's just how I made the model that means I can't chop it in half to make texuring easier.
I feel like making some weapons anyway...

This has always interested me, what programs do you use to model this stuff? Could someone with no previous experience try it out?
Damn right I drink beer sideways.

You would do many of us a great favor, if you could re-model or at least re-texture some of the existing weapons and armor :)

These are ugly:

(click to show/hide)

Low level gear mostly, but still...

EDIT: That cheap 1h hammer just does not look like anything at all :) Many archers use it now, since it takes 0 slots. It needs secondary mode, to make it a throwing weapon. So you can throw that garbage away asap.

I fear I may not be able to make body armours, as I have seen no tutorials on how to rig it or anything of the like...
I could attempt to neaten up some of the weapons and helmets though. But there is just one problem, usually models are made using small rectangle faces, but if you convert a model back out of warband it puts it all in triangles, which are harder to work with. I'll still give it a go though. :)

This has always interested me, what programs do you use to model this stuff? Could someone with no previous experience try it out?

I use Wings3d, It's free and works really good.
I have no past experience in modelling at all, I just watched a small series of video tutorials and all was well. http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/topic,24463.0.html

I think I may actually edit that model but change the blue bit to red so that I could use it, it is a serioussly awesome helmet. :D

Dunno how hard it is, but a retexture of the ugly weapons Armpit_Sweat suggested would be awesome.

Also, this one needs a retext imo, it's horrible, while the weapon is awesomesauce.

Just made this in about 5 seconds, will re-do the strap according to those pictures (didn't see those before). Also going to smooth it out more so it tapers as it gets to the top.

I get some retarded error when trying to texture it, so I'll look into that later.

Edit:
Infact, I'm going to completely remake that.

Edit2: I just absolutely messed up the mesh when trying to make it rounded. Definately going to remake later.
