Arrows really just increase damage done, so what the devs have done is increase arrow damage and slightly reduced ammo size. Fair tradeoff, I must say.

No. It fixes the half-swording switching exploit (thankfully not many people discovered it yet).

I'm supposing it's because they're blunt damage and have very long reach, and as you're on a horse, that's increased with the high speed bonus.

The lolaxe was nice for keeping shielders at bay.....long range shield breaking means people like Balbaroth avoid you.......was kinda balanced by the slowass speed imo.

Yeah the katana really needed that speed increase, there were times when i couldn't spam mine doubly as fast as a scimitar.

I understand the horse nerf effectively takes the horses back to pre-patch level speeds, did you really have to nerf them? I'd love a heads up next time you guys feel like nerfing my 60k mamluk, in addition to its tendency to break a lot and cost me 3k gold a shot. If players want to spend mad amounts of gold to ride horses, let them, there are enough anti-horse weapons in the game.

First, my english isnt good...but i have to say something about this fu***** patch...
chadz you are ruining the whole game with this patch...i played this game for soo long, some of u may know me...i was level 38, now i am lvl 28 just like a peasant...im 22years old..i have to study monday till friday i just got time to play on weekend... i played so much weekends to reach the level i was.
and i have to play the whole shit again?
I played this patch for 2hours and loosing 15k gold because of repairing? i killed 14 ppl in a round...without getting hurt and have to pay 2200g for my horse? Are u serouis?
I loose gold and gold and gold... in past i played this game the whole night, now i quittted after 2 ******** hours...because there is no fun by watching your gold slipping away...
I dont want to change my armor! Why? Whats the reason for changing armor? Or do not equiping my horse! Why? that peasant can kill me? i played so much hours for my armor! i will ******** not change my armor into a leather-whatever...
This patch is supporting peasants and punishing the players who played this game from beginning.
my dream was to ride a mamluk horse with a strength of 21... now i see no reason to pay 60k gold for a horse, i may need 3k gold for repairing it!

I don't understand the arrow changes, weren't they slash damage previously ? Here they are listed as doing thrust damage and the damage has been doubled.

Pretty sure the arrow damage is just a bonus damage added on top of the bows cut. So now they deal a good bit of cut and a small amount of pierce on top of that.

Arrows were listed as pierce before the 0.210 patch. I don't think it has any bearing or anything, however - very sure the bow determines the damage type, not the arrows.

Well, the helaberd isn't really going to be useful for that (most cavalrymen after all have lances, which do outrange you signficantly), but the billhook just might. Although I'll stick to my glaive as the general purpose polearm.

Horses got yet another nerf, now not only everyone has one but  the horses are useless paper mache backstabbing targets just like in native!

At least the staff/bec silliness is gone.

Ok, after few tests. We have checked it with Siege Crossbow and Very Strong Bow. One of test object was my character.

Equipment:
Light Strange Armor set.

Important stats:
Ironflesh 5

And now:
I will die after 3-4 shots of Strong Bow. Bodkin Arrows.
I will die after 3 shots from Siege Crossbow. Steel Bolts.

Why I'm writing this. Acording to this changelog bow worth around 7500 Gold is almost the same powerful as crossbow worth 17000! Now crossbows are useless since they don't have dmg advantage or speed advantage or accuracy advantage. It even costs a whole lot to repair it (around 900 gold!!). This is MADNESS.

Not true - I have been making some tests with Arris - 0 IF, naked body needs two shots from short distance, by siege xbow. Guy with 5 IF needs three shots.  Siege xbow + steel bolts. 120 - 125 in xbows.

Don't forget that crossbow damage cannot be augmented by PD nor does it have a skill requirement/investment (just needs str)
and WPF works differently for each weapon.

lie or bad testing ....  with 0wpf and siege crossbow you can 1 shot pretty much every  light armor and sometime medium....
dont try to make it look broke when it<s still ubber. vs medium/heavy armor you are more efficien then any archer ....

omg nerfed xbow ... lol not even close of the whole archer nerf

You should test agisnt heavy strange armor, the bows will be twice the xbow, then try plate and it will triple.

One more thing - if the price of xbows will be same in Strategus, I doubt if you see Siege Xbow on many sieges...

In other words, if the upkeep reasonable limit is 25k, that means you can wear rags (Pilgim Disgiuse in my case), best xbow that does not kill (remember loading time), low tier 1H + low tier shield (siege xbow + steel bolts costs 20k!!!). Xbower does not seem to be a viable option anymore...  Eh...

Guys, to make it clear, I am not trying to compare xbows vs bows, they are used in different way, xbower usually (or used to) have sensible secondary weapon+1h, archers often have 1h or 2h "just in case" with little WPF.  Builts are different. I am just noting the differences after 0.210...

EDIT:

I just learned that regular xbow + regular bolts need 6 shots to kill guy in Heavy Strange Armour + Wisby Gauntlets with 0 WPF IF.

Ok, just tested it in opposite team, the same characters, archer vs xbow in the same armors.

I would die after 3 shots while having 5 ironflesh, he would die after 2nd shot while having 0 irofnlesh.

Also i tested it on random archer who shot me and took smth like 1/4 of my hp. Soon i will test it on better armor.

EDIT: Tested it with Heraldic Mail with surcoat. I would also die after 3 shoots of Very Strong Bow...

Damn... I heirloomed my Military Pick for nothing. First it went from Balanced to Heavy, and now the new pick (which is already faster) is getting a length buff and is almost a straight upgrade.

Give up 6 length for more speed and damage? No brainer, since as a pick user you are already doing your best to facehug.

Thank you for showing pick users some love by adding a new one... but may I please switch my heirloom over to the Steel Pick instead? :)

This is outright BS, or you tested incorrectly. As others have said, you can 1 shot people in light/medium armor. I have 5IF + studded leather and I consistently get 1 shotted. Pierce damage >> *

Crossbow needed... 5 shots to kill guy in Transitional Armor. But let's say that he might kill him with 4 shots, that still doesn't make much difference considering xbow and bow speed rating.

FFS, only one shot difference? Not to menton that we are talking about bow that is in "middle of bow ladder" versus top crossbow. I hope you see where I'm coming from. Crossbows are just not worth their price. It's not another random cry since we have made few tests. That's not even advantage against heavy armors since bow will kill that can faster, he will kill can like that while crossbow will be in the middle of doing the same job... I just hope that's not last change in crossbows stats. Now off to get some sleep...

Hmmm, had just got my buddy into the game last night and we made a pair of xbowmen (normal x-bows).  Might have to re-roll for something a little less costly for the performance.  The 1-her nerfs are slightly strange as well but ah well.

Hah, I'm still up. These changes doesn;t appear on site yet but for example xbow repair cost already increased in game from around 500 to almost 900. Ok, now I'm really gone with my whining... for now. :P

it seems that new patch ll bring to us, be archer or polearm guy, otherwise u cannot win...if u want to have a horse forget it!! costs re too high cannot afforded and removed useable weapons for it...xbows?? not any chance against archers now...their damages reduced dramatically and upkeep costs re higher than before...being tin man impossible... so pls tell me if i dont want to be an archer how can i protect myself against them??i dont ask this for suggestions want a patch solution for this chaos...

Unfortunately, some horsemen trampled chadz and his dev team, so we noblemen will never get our god given right back. Fellow horsemen, you are idiots, thats all I can say. I always avoided trampling the devs.

Unfortunately, all devs are pedestrians and they hate horses. Its in their blood. Humans hate everything they fear. 

Varric the heavy armor archer was frustrated that he couldnt one shot everyone with his cheap bow, buff for archery.


DEVS ABUSE!!!!!!


Oh I enjoyed these 2 and a half days when archery was somehow balanced so much. Now we are back to get 1 shoted from spawn to spawn.

Well, I do not think so. Archery really got better with buff to arrows, but only headshot would give a oneshot. What seems to be major buff to archers is viewed by comparison to heavily nerfed xbows.

And lets make it straight - its not whining, we are sharing test results.

It seems that people will cry about everything that kills them. Archery cannot 1 shot kill anyone unless they are naked, or you get a headshot. I've gotten quite proficient at nailing people from spawn to spawn, so if I killed you sorry ;). There are a LOT of things that will one shot you in this game. Xbows, swords, polearms, throwing weapons, etc, etc.

Seriously, archery is the easiest damage to negate via a shield and not standing in one spot waiting to be shot.

The nerf to xbows along with the HUGE increase in price is ridiculous. Bows are going to out-damage xbows on nakeds now, and match xbows against plate, as well as being able to fire 5 arrows to my 1 bolt. Dedicated Xbowmen get F'ed in the A again by cry-babies.

Eventually, we're all going to be using nerf bats that do punch damage -1 because of these terrible decisions.

Most cav are forced to use light horse that dies in 1-2 shots. With a half full server, i have better K/D ratio on foot.   Me been deadly on horse has nth to do with game balance. Maybe i've lanced you several times, I'm saying is CAV is SO WEAK now that i'd enjoy the game better doing sth else.

As opposed to cav always riding around in horses that require 8+ hits to take down? You're crying because you can't run around in top end gear killing people solely based on said gear instead of actual player skill.

hmm, Im fine with the changes(Still under 30k equip with my horse archer), but why doesnt the Palfrey get more expensive, too? It still has more armor than the sumpter and is way quicker, if all the good horses become more expensive it should, too.

its still too inaccurate even with wpf invested, low armour. even tho reticle is tight like archery now, with bow you just spam arrows until you hit but with xbow that not possible because such long reload time so not being 100% accurate really screws you. you spend ages reloading miss because its too random, then rage quit.

I dunno.  I just got my buddy to install and try warband/cRPG with me last night.  Figured xbowmen would be a good starter role for him to learn the game.  We're identical atm (easier to find each other and show him the build that way.../nohomo) with 100 1h/ 100 xbow, using regular the "crossbow" with steel bolts and I find it's alot more fun than it used to be.  Yeah, the reload rate is a bit much it seems (I see archers getting off 5+ arrows in the time it takes us to reload) and without a headshot there's no such thing as a 1-shot, but overall it's still pretty damn fun. 

Even with the increase in cost and the decrease in damage I'll keep playing it, but it would be nice if they increased the reload rate just a little bit in compensation.  We only get 15 shots and archers would still have a higher rate of fire in the end.  Maybe a 10-15% reload speed increase across the board?  Should still put bows shooting 3-1 RoF ratio compared to xbows.

I might add a "weak" retirement without a level requirement - it just resets your xp and level to 0.

Well shit. I just started playing as Cav and now here you go nerfing them even more. 1h-swords are kinda nerfed too, thanks for making it even more underpowered now. I really consider going for naked grindfest with a club and a Crown of Flowers, prolly would deal as much dmg now as I'd do with my heirloomed NCS.

As soon as I hit lvl 31 I'll roll an archer. Never been dedicated archer before, it's time to try one. I wanted to make a 1h+shield with xbows as ranged option and also optional horse from time to time but now that's way above 48500 I was aiming for (I wanted to use studded leather over mail not plate, spammitar + huscarl and light xbow).

Right now I'm 2h and it's fun, I've learned manual blocking a bit but it's kinda annoying dueling players who spam polearms (for some strange reason, they seem way faster than my bastard, not to mention the damage). Claymore was cool, even cooler now but it's kinda pricey and I'm missing the key ingredient to make a true Highlander and those are medium armors with kilts.

Ninja takes much more skill than I have atm, but buffed Katana may sway me in that direction (along with Shurikens and Snowflakes).

I'm not really sure what to do, be a easy peasy fotm friendly archer or roll something more unique but harder to play.

(Polearms on foot are retarded, I won't play that, I dislike axes and anything similar)

always consider this: when you are going out in your standard dress (<25k) you do make money. after playing like this for an hour you can go out in your noble dress (>25k) for some rounds. after that it's the standard dress. no such thing as naked grinding is needed.
additionally just wait for two weeks after some changes are made, wait and see how things develope. there is a specific psychological effect taking place, example: ppl think throwing is op so you see a lot of throwers - hence you get killed by throwers (not neccessarily because they are op, but there are more of them). so you think to yourself: "wow i get killed by throwers a lot, they must be op!" which could be wrong. [/example]

Yeah but I like sticking to a certain "in character" spec.

My former 1h/shield + xbow char is too expensive to maintain and not as fun anyway after the changes.

Plus I discovered manual blocking is a lot of fun and I simply love the Nodachi.

Add to that the fact that if I have light/medium/heavy strange armor which I can switch depending on funds/feel and still keep the overall "character" of my char :)

Adapt and survive, or... don't and be trampled underfoot by the latest set of balancing changes. Just because something is OP and you decided you wanted to use it, and it was changed shortly thereafter, don't bitch at us for wanting everything constantly fixed. There should be no single pieces of equipment in any category that are by far "the best weapon/armor" of that type...most games follow a pretty simple rock-paper-scissors scheme...pretty simple.

Now they are trying to ruin crpg. You try getting stoned with rocks and see if it does no damage. A well thrown rock to the side of an unarmored head can kill someone, but instead of giving them the buff they deserve you make them useless? This is an outrage. Why would they have pierce damage anyway  :evil:

My heavy german poleaxe (newly heirloomed) is gone and doesnt show up in my selkectable gear- it only shows on my char page.
Instead i have a simpe swiss pike ? Awesome ...

This.

A fellow templar started a thrower because he thought it was easy mode as he got killed by thrown weapons often. He soon found out throwing is in fact quite hard and still has it's flaws (throwing weapons disappearing when thrown, throwing weapons passing through horses/enemies without hitting them, randomly flying off in random directions when thrown, aiming spot on without moving the mouse and only hit with the 3rd or 4th throw, stuff like that).

He's now back to building his archer.

Last test we did was Siege Crossbow and Steel Bolts versus Very Strong Bow and Bodkin Arrows. Our target was character in Transitional Heraldic Armor with 5 Ironflesh.

To kill him archer needed 6 shots. And he was in heavy strange armor (idk if that affects his dmg).
Crossbow needed... 5 shots to kill guy in Transitional Armor. But let's say that he might kill him with 4 shots, that still doesn't make much difference considering xbow and bow speed rating.

FFS, only one shot difference? Not to menton that we are talking about bow that is in "middle of bow ladder" versus top crossbow. I hope you see where I'm coming from. Crossbows are just not worth their price. It's not another random cry since we have made few tests. That's not even advantage against heavy armors since bow will kill that can faster, he will kill can like that while crossbow will be in the middle of doing the same job... I just hope that's not last change in crossbows stats. Now off to get some sleep...

Last EDIT:He meant Ironflesh, not WPF (i think since our target had 0 IF).

Yeh, that sounds like too much of  anerf for xbows, as the tradeoff for speed should be damage.

In fact this's exactly the same, model was just added into the ninja.brf with samurai_armor_red & samurai_armor_black

Wow. I guess I won't be using my Sarranid horse Herbert much anymore. I don't quite understand the nerfs to the light horses. They already die on any 2nd hit anyway.

I always felt charge was overpowered and should be nerfed... but nerf charge, don't nerf the light horses!

If you rely on speed, you shouldn't have chosen an heirloom that reduces it.
(Not that you could have known just by reading the character page that it would happen)

It might be implemented in an upcoming patch, it's nevertheless always present in the module_items.py.
So I don't know why.
