I'm curious about some of the trendsetters in cRPG. I made a post earlier today mentioning Devilize destroy dudes with a morning star while mounted on cav. That got me to thinking... who was the first to make that build/setup popular?
CUP CLAN BEST CLAN
What kind of cup is cup anyway
The best cup.
frisia made being gay socially acceptable on the internet
Morningstar cav was Lady_Gaga - Fall 2010. Back then morningstar had crushthrough on the side swing from horseback
Bar Mace Gothic Plate with Bevor - Linden and Wallace (bar mace used to have crushthrough) - Fall 2010
Knife Chamberer - Greziz (Linden's alt) - Fall 2010
Archers that could actually melee - Robin_Longstride and Chimp - Fall 2010
Plate Helmeted Light body armored Archer - Birdman - Fall 2010
High Agility 2her (30+) - Gash or Kalam - Fall 2010
High Agility Archer (1 powerdraw, 30+ agility) - Kesh - Fall 2010
High Agility Spamitar - Balbaroth - Fall 2010
Dedicated Stone thrower - starts with a P, forget his name off top of my head - Fall 2010
Most of the "trendsetters" you see now are people who emulated someone else who originally emulated someone else. Its a pretty old mod at this point and most of the originals are gone and even many of the second wave emulators are gone as well. God I miss the old group and classic crpg - most fun and height of the mod with 120 man server and 80 man servers packed at same time for hours on end.
Fall 2010
Who started the "archer with a straw hat" thing? I know that King Itchy still uses it in NA, and saw Tennenoth long ago on EU (don't play there much anymore).
I almost never see rus war mask (previously vaegir war mask) on NA servers anymore. When I started playing they were everywhere!
Dedicated Stone thrower - starts with a P, forget his name off top of my head - Fall 2010
That's definitely Tennenoth. Here we call it the Tenne Hat.
Also on your side of the pond, whoever was wearing full black armor, great helmet with hat and a bec (I believe his name was Gorath). That guy defined the bec and the black armor.
Goretooth
Who was the guy again wearing plate and no helmet? We thought he was a noob when we saw him IG, but I believe he still uses it. Forgot his name but remember he had a male character with half-long blonde hair.

Chase probably made the Vaegir War Mask + Sarranid Guard Armour combination popular, something which I just cannot comprehend. It looks terrible and yet I see it popping up so many times.

I can't say much for Trendsetters in other classes.. but Pike was definitely made attractive to me by watching Walt_F4 play back in the day. King Itchy when I very first started playing made me want to play an archer.
I can't really think that far back in terms of who started what trend or who was the first to be renown at what class. Tough to say.
Walt_F4 is/was Dexxta.
My theory is that the popularity of the kuyak is partly because of the furry shoulder pads. Makes the character seem slightly more bulky. I'm sure if there was some of that ridiculous WoW style fantasy armor with shoulderpads twice the size of the head a bunch of people would use it.The model looks good, but most importantly it is slightly better than other armors around its price/weight level if you care more about body armor than leg armor. The Light Kuyak in particular.
It never became a trend but thanks for the mention.

pretty sure that was wookimonsterUmm, no, there was another guy, who, at the time, was pretty much the only 2h cav in the mod. Wooki did 2h infantry and stuff.

"3gud5me." "rekt6dayz." "getrektm9."
started by assington suger balias and various nerds from archeage beta and brought to the attention of the global community and youtubers and c0d nerds everywhere but our autism never got its recognition.
I mean really if someone says a console peasant started these trends where the hell did they get the idea of misclicking on your numpad.
it was dedicated shitlordery and autism spread far and wide across mount and blade, mowas, archeage and war thunder

This came from an internet website from which I hail, which I will not name here among these uncultured swine and plebs.

Morningstar on horseback was first regularly used in cRPG by an EU cav player. Can't quite remember the name, one of the Guards/BD guys, iirc.
Silly newmy old friend, i am talking of before that even.
kapikulu_sunekti_dede (mind you im sure i spelled that wrong), same time as some pecores 2hander did his barmace thing (was that you kafein?), The_Finn was just before going black armor/plated charger (he still had heraldic tranny and cataphrac) and the shogunate sliced up servers.
nostalgia, fuck yeah

I could be off on this but I think Cyranule started a trend with the 1 hand cav. It was always lancers and he popped up and showed you could top the board with it and not long after I started seeing a bunch more riding around.

That got me to thinking... who was the first to make that build/setup popular? I seem to remember Gigglebyte doing it way back in the day. Was he the first to make it popular?

Tydeus then goes and kills it.
TrollFaceGod, one of the first players who played 1h no shield consistently I think and one of the best in his time. Became 1h no shield myself cause of him.
Still just a kuyak vaginamask strwhore thoStr whore? He was 24/15, balanced Build for a 1h i'd say. And his Archer alt, camperus, was funny to watch how he pwned everyone in melee ;)

24/15 is not a balanced build
UGLYBASTARD comes in mind when thinking about heavy 1h cav, but he was definitely not the first.
Pretty much yea, 3 stats difference is balanced. 6 is debatable, but 9? Thats a str build.
You're right, though never before I've heard someone calling 1h no shield "str whore".
It could've been Aldo or someone else who first began the NBOH plated long polearm.
24/15 is not a balanced buildYou probably never played 1h no shield, because it is on 1h without shield. I am a balanced build whore all the way, picking 18/21 on 30 and 21/21 on the higher levels for all my melee builds. But when I play 1h no shield, my builds of choice are 21/18 and 24/18. Fact of the matter is that 1h weapons have low damage values, but their low length, low weight, and low penalty that 1h weapon group receives combined means that you move relatively fast. Mechanics are built for using a 4-7 weight shield with it.
but their low length,
Well for me it's not really about the equipment.
Not the point. Game mechanics apply a penalty to movement speed based on the weapon length stat. Which is 105 max for 1h regardless of the reach of the animations. Which is also why 2h has a slight inherent advantage to movement speed compared to polearm, because its animations give it higher actual reach relative to its weapon length stat.
Are we talking about people who did something first or people who spawned the most copycats since I'm a little bit confused.
Both, how do you start a trend without being one of the first to use or do something anyway. Its mentioned above more than once that black armor+great helmet was never a trend (so kinda offtopic).
its true. goddamit i didnt even know about manual blocking back then and thought of all non shielders as weird nerds doing some sort of magic
24/15 is not a balanced build
First guy who wear peasant clothes and a stick was first peasant in game. Dont know who it was but probably not Testicles as at that time that Testicles probably didnt even know about MB at all. Talking about trends... using peasant gear as basis you can say thanks to the first leecher probably....Maybe Herkutatti_The_leecher? :p
The fact that in Eu the game was played for like a whole year without Na servers to play on, could be enough for you all to realize that everything was done before it was done on Na side.Sorry to dissapoint you. Could have been the other way around, (if mod started with Na servers obviously, its nothing special), but it wasnt like that. Another fact to consider its first na players started playing at Eu servers, where they could catch some influences on what to use or not,but definitely they didnt start from nothing.
About specific "who started this trend on NA", probably kesh post its the most correct of all.
as an American, i have no culture, especially ones related to shitting in ditches in 1152, so to make all my themed builds i go to EU_1 and watch other players, then steal their builds, because i cant be original like europeans. Did i do this right?

I loved watching Bumblebee tear shit up in NA 1 and she usually wore one of these. I started using it instead of going with no helm, and it really grew on me. Now I have one loomed to +3!

AntiBlitz... nice to see someone else likes Mouse Guard. I love everything about that comic!
I am very curious as to who was the first to use the 'new' pike back in the day to any effectiveness. I believe it was added in like spring 2011 and it must've been quite daunting to play around with it. I don't recall seeing it much at all to be honest, but I wasn't really interested in support polearms until like another year.
listen here, you cant be OG mouse guard, even though i only found it like a week ago, its american, and since its american, it was out in america atleast 1 year before it was in europe, so that means everyone was doing it well prior before you came along and tell me you like mouse guard, so dont try it european. We will have to start a separate OG Mouse guard thread, one for EU and NA, to differentiate us. Mouse Guard is american, we thought of it first, you just came along like a sloppy second and decided to copy it.(click to show/hide)
