Wurm online.. more like grind online. The grind is so bad there's at least 4 different skills to level for walking.
Ok not that bad but its tedious. How can you like that? I liked the idea behind it but damn dude.
I am on Epic (Mol Rehan). I used to play with Templols and always abused them in some ways. I had so much fun but they quit. Plz join Mol Rehan. I need people to piss off and abuse.
Wurm online was a lot of fun, but the skill gain is ridiculous, and don't bother trying to fight anything (run like hell and avoid like hell). You can't get over a certain skill level unless you pay money (which was okay with me, I liked the game enough to pay some money). I was really into the terraforming and setting up a little civilization, but the skill gains were way too slow for me to keep playing more than a month or two.
Yeah I can understand that, probably subconsciously was part of the reason I stopped as well. But I played on a PvE server. I'm gonna give it another go this weekend with Necro and we're gonna try starting anew on the PvP server, I hear the skill gain is increased quite a bit there, plus killing other players should make things rather interesting.

I would have joined you guys (and asked my bro and a couple other crpg guys who originally played it with me to join) but I'm going to give State of Decay a try tonight and I'm sure I'll be playing that all weekend.

Goddamnit. Now you've gone and convinced me to look into it, thus convincing me to get it. As if I didn't have enough problems with time-management as is.
Aw yeah!
Its fun but be wary there are a few bugs in the game that definitely can hurt you severely. IE: survivors dying and their stuff falling through floor/ground, too many infestations problem (huge morale drain) that takes into account infestations globally and not any near your home base, and some issues with survivors/zed getting stuck in walls and etc.
Most of the major problems are being fixed with a patch next week. So if you haven't started, you could wait or just start now and get the hang of it and if you are ok with those problems (they are manageable) then keep on keeping on.
I was gonna try this out as some of the features look pretty cool, but after watching videos of the pvp it looks like one of the most awkward and boring looking PvP systems I've ever seen, clicking through drop down menus and waiting for timers to complete attacks. Sadly I don't enjoy many games that dont have reasonably decent PvP. I can imagine myself feeling like I did when I played Minecraft, bored.
The combat is a bit boring when it comes down to action. Although, the whole plot of the game is to advance. If they added Twitch combat it would take away the power of those who spent the time to advance and become a powerful warrior or perhaps even champion. I personally like this system for a game like Wurm.
It can create this whole sense of "Don't mess with this guy" because he has been training since day 1. It actually rewards players for their time rather than personal skill, yet the process to becoming that powerful is slow enough where not many have accomplished it.
By reasonably decent I didnt mean twitch combat, I meant anything better than navigating a drop down menu everytime you want to attack and then waiting for some kind of progress bar for the action to even happen. Just looks awkward and slow, it is like a prehistoric terrible version of the general hotkey targeting mmorpg. Being able to set the combat actions to hotkeys AND the combat actions happening there and then with a cooldown, would generally make the pvp less terrible, IMO that is.
If you're playing WURM for the PVP (or even PVM) you're doing it wrong.
It's super fucking tedious as it is to get your skills up. You think crpg is a massive grind?
Then whats the point of it, building shit is boring if there is no reason to build it lol.
severe spider bite wound lol.
What Kingdom you in Tenne?
EDIT: After reading some peoples older posts I am guessing Mol Rehan, going to that homeland to start fucking about and seeing what I can do lol.
EDIT2: After playing for a little while and learning some basic stuff, I am actually kinda having fun :P. Even though the fighting is so massively basic, it was fun stabbing some guy to death who had the HUNTED thing on his name after he attacked another player for no reason. Though I am having a hard time foraging cotton and have half my health gone to a severe spider bite wound lol.
Yea, that thing is going to keep bleeding until it gets treated, or you bleed out.
Mol Rehan - Desertion - Epic
That should be it.
Yeah, I think Vinnie is looking to take people in now that we have a settlement set up, I would much prefer people that I already know so, that's my preference, I'm sure Vinnie will be fine with it (I shall check of course since he lived there first) so if we're online, I might as well head to the spawn and pick up people who fancy playing. I'm sure we could build a boarding house since we're clearing a lot of space.
I'll check with Vinnie first of course, I don't want to alienate him more than I already did about 20 minutes ago! (He'll know what I'm talking about).
Anyway, dying when you're new shouldn't matter that much, I'm still undefeated... I expect Vince Truth  will be the one to end me first though.
I have been cutting down trees with the 60ql one and keeping my 80ql Longsword for fighting stuff.
Looks awesome Tenne!, What times and days/night are you usually on? I probably wont get much time over the weekend, only a couple hours on an evening or two, but I'll be around all day Tuesday day and then probably all evening and night on Friday.
My name was LeeUK, but the game made it Leeuk . I have got myself a large wooden shield and a couple of Longswords, I have been cutting down trees with the 60ql one and keeping my 80ql Longsword for fighting stuff. I also want start mining stuff so I should be able to help you guys gather resources even if I can't make much just yet.
I'm gonna be on now for about an hour and a half but that's it so perhaps have to wait for either Tuesday or one evening next week.
Awesome, I hope you have some animals I can make attack me so I can grind my shield skill inbetween my shifts of mining and woodcutting :D.
You've not got much to worry about, I don't play games to be a douchebag. Oh wait, I'm a Horse Archer in cRPG, I have no valid argument. :D
But yeah, I am well behaved and I would like to think at least reasonably mature, at least being 27 years of age I hope I am , but I've been in the Fallen Brigade since it was about 2 weeks old and I've never been in the bad books so to speak. You've got nothing to worry about.
no body answered my question of what the difference between this and haven/salem is :(
What timezone are you in Tenne? I assumed GMT but then I thought maybe you're studying abroad? lol.
On Thursday 10/4 at 22.00 hrs CEST we will test a Mega Sized Server and want you to help us out! The size we are testing is 16 times the size of our current largest servers. That's pretty badass.
Our current largest servers are 16×16 kilometers, and this new map is 64×64 kilometers, or 4096 square kilometers, non-instanced, single zone fully modifiable, living terrain!
We want to see how many players can be on the server simultaneously and see how bad the lag gets on the client and server under heavy load. There will also be 50 000 creatures roaming the wilderness (which is a fairly low population in Wurm terms).
NO REGISTRATION WILL BE REQUIRED FOR JOINING THE TEST! You will just have to type in your desired nickname and a random password and click play once we provide the link to the client used for the test.
Apart from the fact that no other MMO has ever launched a modifyable map of this size, running this many players in one game zone is pretty unusual in itself and will be an interesting experience. We strongly suggest you join in.
We will livestream the event on www.twitch.tv/codeclub.
In case all goes well we’ll consider releasing the server within a few weeks after some more testing and tweaking.
We will post a link to the game client used for these tests on our launcher and in the news section of the web site approximately half an hour before the test goes live. Note that this test will last approximately one hour and the server will be made unavailable afterwards and the database will probably be wiped.
Hope you can make it!
