Diplomacy / NAP Delcaration: Conquistador/Hospitaller
« on: August 08, 2013, 01:17:09 am »
The sun had just broken the horizon and already the hall in Tulbuk Castle was bustling with lords awaiting the arrival of
the Conquistador ambassador party. The mood grew ever more tense as nobles argued over the reason for this visit. Some believed that Sungetche was the rightful claim of the Order, while others proclaimed that a strong friend was more valuable than stone.
It was true that the long wars had shaken the strength of the Order and shifted the balance of power in the Steppe. Sungetche had new lords from a land far away, and much of the Steppe had been relinquished to Occitan when there were no longer enough troops to defend them. Ichamur had been seized by the Free Companies. The once great city nearly torn apart by Matey and his unsavory band of pirates. Unsold goods overflowed from the stock yards, and the once rich merchants now roamed the streets with the poor. It was the will of God that Ichamur would soon be reclaimed, but what of our new neighbors who now resided in Sungetche?
The debates went on for much of the morning hours, until the court jester Loleznub was called in to succor the quarreling nobles. Soon the hall had united in their disgust for the jester's antics. It was the will of God for Lemikz and his party of Conquistadors to arrive right as the jester was being hauled to the dungeon for his inadequacies. They were greeted with cheers, both for the ambassadors and the terrible fate of Loleznub. As he was dragged off, all could see the jester hold his basket high in the air crying, "But what about the picnic m'lord?"

It wasn't long before the court realized that the Conquistadors had come with good intentions when barrels of far west ale and racks of exotic foods were brought in. There would be a grand feast! Full bellies and ale changed the tone as echoes of laughter rang through the hall and boisterous voices swapped stories of glory.
Another gift bestowed by the Conquistadors were two top surgeons from the west. It was known that the leper King had fallen under a heavy fever, and Lemikz offered his surgeon's services until a time when he was well enough to talk with a full mind. The festivities continued for a number of days and when the leper's fever broke, negotiations began with gratitude for the capable doctors.
It was soon decided by both sides that a strong friend was much more valuable than snow and stone. It was agreed that a pact of Non Aggression would be a proper way to begin the building of trust, and form the foundation of a greater relationship in the future. The Order bid the Conquistadors a safe journey home, making sure that more booze would be brought for the next meeting!
The Conquistadors and the Knights Hospitaller have agreed to a Non Aggression Pact for a period of two months with option for renewal by agreement of both clans. At or near the end of the term, if both clans have honored the pact, other diplomatic treaties that are mutually beneficial may be discussed.
It is our hope that this will be the beginning of a strong relationship with our new neighbors in the Steppe.
