Wonder how i'll get money, or do the machines herald an age of pure communism?
From the government. Universal basic income.

It's also disheartening that most of what we're learning today will be completely useless in the (relatively) near future.
That's the real kicker, isn't it? A lot of people - most, maybe - will have spent their entire adult lives learning and doing something that suddenly becomes entirely obsolete. Then they'll have the qualifications to work at Mickey D's -- except that'll probably be automated too.

"Hobbies" can push you as far as a job. Why couldn't they? That makes no sense. Show some scientific backing for this absurd claim.

A lot of people just lack the dedication, there has to be something that pushes you to your goal, unless you got lots of willpower.

But I´m curious now: What´s your idea of "based" living? How do you spend your life?

I think we will need space-communism in the future. Earth can settle for a barter/trade diablo 2 economy, noone will want money anymore when everyone has it.

I rest my case.
Was your case that not everyone is as dumb as you, i.e., doesn't need to be forced to work to find things to do? If so, you made your case well.

If most governments in the world implement 'human quotas' in the workplace like they're already talking about (as a feeble attempt to maintain the status quo), then Xant if your job gets replaced by AI you'll simply be unemployed. Your 'Universal basic income' will just be job-seeker benefits if your country has those.

If that's all you need in order to do whatever you want, why dont you stop working and just start living on those sweet benefits now?
What are you even talking about? You should perhaps look into some of those concepts you mentioned, right now you're making zero sense.

One of my few regrets in life might just be that I won't be able to sit by Xant's bedside as he dies a senile old fool (if he can even last that long off unemployment checks, err, sorry... "UBI"). I'd love to hear him crying out "quick, plug me into the computer, upload my consciousness to the internet!" completely unaware that not all that much has actually changed in the last 50 years, and such things are still little more than fantasy. Alas, I'd never stoop so low as to fly over to whatever third world country he's living in just to be his only company as he passes.

You see 'technology can replace jobs' and assume society will adapt so that work is no longer required for you to maintain a basic quality of life.

But I see the EU, the UK etc already debating legislation in preparation for the AI revolution. One of the many subjects, the protection of jobs for humans. Society's going to be rewritten overnight so that every single citizen get generous pay for doing nothing? Or, governments of the world perform the minimum necessary tickbox exercise to make sure humans still need to work for their money? The only difference between now and then, X% of jobs depending on the quota will be lost.

My argument will make more sense if you get your dearest wish and lose your job to an AI.
It'd only make sense if I knew as little as you about economics and AI. Perhaps once the AI overlords arrive, I can have a temporary mind wipe and be able to understand and sympathize with your argument.

completely unaware that not all that much has actually changed in the last 50 years

Dunno what will happen in next 50 years, but in 1967 things were a little bit different. For instance, average American wasn't grossly overweight. Don't even need to mention racial structure from that period and rights minorities had compared to today. Women used to stay at home and make dinners for their husbands. Gay people were not tolerated in society.

Yeah, nothing changed.

Crazier things happened. For example, gender studies is now viable education choice.
