http://www.zpub.com/notes/idle.htmlAre
you ready for the coming revolution when AI and robots will do the vast majority of work? Have you reconciled yourself with the fact that there is no nobility in "work" whatsoever, that the supposed nobility is merely a ruse to keep the slaves toiling away happily? And what a great success of brainwashing this particular ruse has been! Parents tell their children that there is nothing more important than a Job, and anyone not Working is a lazy scoundrel. How the elite must've laughed when they first witnessed this phenomenon. Slaves keeping slaves in check! A self-sustaining system; brilliant, really.
Despite long hours and everyone working having been unnecessary for well over a hundred years, the fantasy will soon become entirely untenable, with the advent of yet more technologies; the advancement of AI and robotics. Soon vast swathes of humanity will be
forced to not work, for there will simply be way to dream up new useless jobs for all of them, as was previously the case after the agricultural revolution. Serendipitous, then, that the entertainment systems evolve at roughly as fast a rate. In history, epidemic unemployment has generally led to war; but in modern times, if the elites are wise enough to introduce UBI early enough, there'll be no earthly reason why anything should go awry. In entertainment, VR systems will bring forth a revolution as large as AI and robotics elsewhere. No doubt in twenty, fifty years' time we would have many people unwilling to work simply because they have no desire to leave their VR.
Good thing they won't have to.
