One of the first games I remember playing was Moria.  All the graphics were keyboard symbols and you fought a lot of k's.  Those were kolbolds.

Ultima 7 really blew my mind.  I never made any attempts to beat the game because I was too busy stealing everything not bolted down and making bread.  You could get water from a well, combine it with flour, put the dough in an oven or over a fire and boom.  Bread.  Probably the first real sandbox style game I ever played.

Crusader: No Remorse.  It was so much fun to set off chain reaction explosions.

Marshmallow Duel!  A game two people could play on the same keyboard.  You one-shot the other player then your marshmallow man does a funky victory dance.

Honorable mentions: Syndicate, Legends of Valour, Commander Keen, Jagged Alliance, Another World, Warmonger, B-17 Flying Fortress and Dune 2.

It's a shame that no one has posted this. Baldurs Gate II.

The first Age of Wonders is a masterpiece. Had to buy it on steam just to have it on my game list again.

And yes, they're not that oldskool, but these two always come to mind when I think about old games.

It's a shame that no one has posted this. Baldurs Gate II.

I did mention Baldurs Gate the original, never really got into the second game, I think I just really disliked the linear and long introduction, forcing you to go through a ton of shit at the start, I prefer my intro's to RPGs to either be very quick or non-existant and/or non-linear, makes it more enjoyable for me to play through again.

Yeah, the intro dungeon put me off the game for a really long time, totally uninteresting slog of a section. Things picked up pretty quickly once you got to the city, though.
Don't.

Transport Tycoon Deluxe! I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned yet. A new, open source version is still being developed on today, I play it from time to time.

Winning with the Stones of Power is frowned upon. Be a hero and kill every enemy piece.
