New weight/WPF formula?

So I'm trying to decide what to respec into on my characters and I was curious what exactly the new formula is that I've been hearing about? I know it's somehow related to Ironflesh or something?

Just wondering how much agi/str I should pump without gimping my WPF.

Effective armor weight = (2*head armor weight + body armor weight + leg armor weight + 6*hand armor weight - max(6, IF*2, Str/3 + 1))^1.12

You start off at 6, Strength > 18 and IF > 3 increases that minimum. IF of 5 or strength of 27 gives you 10, same as before.

The 1.12 was there before as well.

So if I have 5 IF or above it will be the same as before?

Basically I'm wondering if a 18/27 build would be viable in mid-tier armor with 9WM and 5IF, all points in one weapon category. Or, would my lack of IF make the extra agi negligible?

I believe 5 IF would make it the same pre-patch (it was 10 weight right?).  Above 5 IF would give you a higher cap before wpf reduction kicks in.

If I calculate correctly that means with 6 IF can use a ~16,2 Armorrating before I get a wpf-penalty?  12^1,12 = 16.2?

EDIT: I see I missed the brackets.
Heres my formula:  (6head + 20.2body + 1.7leg + 12head - (12IF))^1.12 = 41.6
So what exactly does this 41.6 mean? Is that the wpf-Reduction I get?

Still curious to know this answer to his question, anyone know what exactly the 41.6 means or translates into?

I've asked around and I have yet to get a correct answer to this question either. However, it seems to give you a rough estimate of the total wpf points you will lose if you invested 100% of your wpf points into one type.

For example, with my current set up I have:

Total weight: 2*2.4 + 12.9 + 6*0.9 + 0.8 = 23.9

IF threshold: 2*4 = 8

Effective weight: 23.9 - 8 = 15.9

15.9^1.12 = 22.16 wpf malus

I have 198 max wpf with 9WM.

Effective wpf: 198 - 22.16 = 175.84 ~ 176

So, using this formula I should have either 175 or 176 effective wpf, depending on whether or not the decimal is rounded up or down. However, this formula is still several wpf points off, since I actually only have 169 effective wpf, according to the calculator found here:

https://0b176db51ec327b013e6b005fde2cca145eb9267.googledrive.com/host/0Bzs1vJv0tQLHZ3AwLUQ0Tkt0djg/calc.html

So, long story short, just use the weapon damage calculator to find out your effective wpf.  8-)

Basically, to sum up the whole new wpf situation... this is coming from one of the members of the balance team:

The math seems a bit convoluted to me

Gonna be changed to STR/3 + IF for next patch (still 6 at min). Hope it doesn't screw anyone's planned builds up. The first change didn't really help low IF that much.

There's some extra stuff after finding the effective weight that takes a percentage off your wpf. It's a little annoying to break down.

Ah, glad to hear it.

Any chance if you could just give us a general idea what else it takes into account? Is it just more math using the weight and wpf numbers, or does it take other values into account? Not like you're secretly taking PS or ath into account in this formula, are you? Don't worry about going in-depth since it's annoying to explain, that's what the calculators can be used for.

Ranged: (effective weight)% reduction. An effective weight of 15 will give you a 15% reduction of your wpf
Melee: (effective weight * 2/3)% reduction. An effective weight of 15 will give you a 10% reduction of your wpf

((Math.Abs((2/3)*effectiveWeight - 100) * wpf) / 100)
Take out the 2/3 for ranged.

irl something shorted on the shuttle and laika overheated and died within a few hours of liftoff and for a brief while one could look up to the stars and see a light shooting across the sky that was actually a warm dog corpse slingshoting about the earth at thousands of miles per hour which was arguably humanity's greatest achievement so far

Current tl;dr:

Your penalty-free effective weight (Head weight * 2 + Body weight + Hand weight * 6 + Leg weight) will be the biggest of these three numbers: 6, your strength/3 + 1, or your IF*2.

Right now 3 IF won't do anything for your WPF.

3-17 STR: 6
18 STR: 7
21 STR: 8
24 STR: 9
27 STR: 10
30 STR: 11
(Pattern continues)

3 or less IF: IF doesn't count
4 IF: 8
5 IF: 10
6 IF: 12
7 IF: 14
8 IF: 16
9 IF: 18
10 IF: 20

Next patch it'll just be STR/3 + IF, with a minimum penalty free effective weight of 6.

Ranged: (effective weight*3/2)% reduction.

Take out Change the 2/3 to 3/2 for ranged.
Where effective weight is post exponent (Up until this last patch, it was *2.5, not 1.5, its just another archer buff to go unnoticed).
