Recommendations for a near death 1st Gen
« on: October 21, 2013, 11:16:07 pm »
+13
Hello!
I am a Level 26 1st Gen with no looms. I am a full-melee footsoldier with an even distribution of skills along 1handed, 2handed, and polearms. I usually wield a 1hander, a shield, plus a 2hander/polearm.
Included below are my current stats. I left out anything I put no points to, attributes or skills.
_______________

Level:26
_______________

Stats
_______________

Strength:18
Agility:14
_______________

One Handed:91
Two Handed:76
Polearm:83
_______________

Weapon Master:4
Athletics:4
Iron Flesh:6
Shield:4
Power Strike:6
_______________

My equipment (all +0) is as follows:
______________________

Bascinet
Black Lamellar Vest
Light Strange Gloves
Khergit Leather Boots
Iberian Mace
Plate-Covered Round Shield
Dadao
______________________

My playstyle is having enough protection to stop me from dying from a few hits, but does'nt slow me down. I prefer being agile and kiting/flanking opponents instead of being a plate-covered long maul shitbasher.

And that's basically it. Any suggestions for skill changes, new equipment, or builds (for now or my next gen)?

I wouldnt recommand having 2h 1h and polearm wpf...1h + polearm(aka Spear) + shield is a good combination, if yu prefer agility get 18 or 21 agility , also you dont really need heavy armor, i wouldnt go over Heavy Kuyak if i were a shielder.

Yeah, I've noticed that a lot recently. I chose to invest on all so I could experiment more. I fare equally well with 1hand and 2hand, but both function pretty much the same, 'cept one is bigger and badder, but the other is more defensive and quicker.
Poles however are a different game. There's a lot of variation between them, though, so what should I pick? Word on the street is that War Spear is the thing, along with the Long Maul.
Additionally, you can only thrust with a pole while using a shield, so how would that work? I never really liked thrusts, though it could grow on me.

Run an 18/18 melee build, and see if you want to be a bit faster or a bit stronger, go higher on Agility or Strength.  Or just stay 18/18, it's a beautiful build.

For weapon choice, pick what you find the most success with/enjoy the most and hone in on that.

Eventually you can make your builds around your weapons when you know the game well enough.

In this gen just carry on, at lvl 30 you could have sth like that:
(click to show/hide)

But in your next gen go for 21-18 or 18-21 pure build, with wpf only in one weapon. Maybe you'd like to try other shields, brown lion, knightly heater and elite cav shield are really nice and not so heavy. Two more things, you can make STF alt: http://c-rpg.net/index.php?page=charskipthefun
Maybe good idea would be joining some clan with big armoury. Looms help a lot. If you don't want to be in seriouz clan check this: http://c-rpg.net/index.php?page=ladderoverviewclans#!?page=claninfodetail&id=2216

... About that...

I don't really want to be bound by a single weapon tactic-wise. I wanna be able to vary my combat style slightly. If you have any recommendations for weapons that have a good secondary mode or work differently with/without a shield hook me up.

But a 1st Gen unloomed scrub could never say something wiser than the big dicked 20somethingGen master race I make bad jokes.

An iron staff would do well for something like that. With a shield it only thrusts but put the shield away (or it breaks) then you have a weapon that can use all 4 directions while having knockdown.

If you want a 1h weapon, there are some that have a 2h secondary. They suffer vs normal 2h swords when it comes to range so depending on how new you are that can be an issue.

Alright, I think I have a new setup ready.

I'm planning on using a Bastard Sword, an Elite Cavalry Shield, and a Military Fork/Shortened Spear.

I think you should definitely not give up on your dream of playing multiple melee classes. I started off as 1h/polearm, and now that I'm level 35 I have 8 WM and split my profs three ways: 125 polearm/1h, 93 2h (because real talk, 2h will do fine at 0 prof anyhow).
You think you're pretty smart with your dago mustache and your greasy hair.

You certainly can have 2 different weapon classes (like 1h/polearm, or polearm/2h).  I think those are the two most viable, otherwise another good split is melee (either 1h, 2h or polearm, and throwing).

I personally like polearm/1h as a cavalry player.  But it would also be a pretty good split for ground troops (can do hoplite, or use a pike and have a 1h as a backup)

I was actually thinking the opposite, maybe having a 1handed main, plus a pole for range and backup.

That would be good too.  Fighting with a 1h, and pull out a polearm for either support role (against other infantry) or to rear horses.

If you want to be more of a hoplite (polearm, 1hander, shield) go with the war spear... its a great weapon and can be sheathed... AND it rears horses.
