Neverwinter Nights 2, if only for Mask of the Betrayer.

And the Baldur's Gate mod, if you don't like old Baldur's Gate.

Worth it just for the in-game music.

Nothing earth shattering but, for unknown reasons, it made an everlasting impression on me.

and so the hero picks up his knife and embarks on an epic quest to save the world...
Tseng: Used to the bitter taste of refusal, this only serves to reinforce his greatest life lession yet.
Cloud: And that is?
Tseng: Bitches, man.

Too bad NVWN2 coop crashes/bugs on my PC  :(  probably compatibility issues

Tried two times and we had weird bug while trying to play coop. Otherwise I would play the shit out of it. I think I began the coop adventure 5 or 6 times and never got far  (when it worked)

Third-person shooter thingies, with RPG elements, made by russians? Try A.I.M. (and 2nd part too)

Any of you knows a good tactical RPG for PC, turn-based is a plus.

I recently re-installed "The Last Remnant", but there's too many cinematics for my taste, and veteran players advise you to skip fights, else your Battle Rating goes up too fast... It's the only RPG where you get disadvantaged for killing every monster in a dungeon... Way too much luck based elements too, may it be your stats leveling up, your skills leveling up, the critical hits, or the possibility of counter-attacking, counter-blocking by pushing the good key also being random.
For example, you can succesfully block or dodge five times in a row, without triggering the special "push quickly the good key", or succesfully block once, get the "event", succeed, and get this counter-attack in, wich is actually WAY more powerfull than any of your standart attack, and can turn a fight around.
You can get owned in a fight very easily, redo it, and crush them without even healing yourself on the next attempt... Too many luck elements, and i like to thoroughly eliminate all obstacles, so i get a BR too high very quickly. Also, the only game where you're not really sure what skills your units are going to use. And sometimes, you won't have the option of "healing", for a pre-emptive healing, even though you have the skill, and the AP for it. So frustrating...
I uninstalled it.

The two "tactical" RPG i remember and that left me happy were :

-Final fantasy : tactics advance on Game Boy Advance : turn based RPG, where you level up by fighting, and gain skills by using special weapons. Good story, tactical combat with placements, etc...

-Tales of Symphonia on Game Cube : i don't know in wich category it falls, since you actually move on a map, and can "walk into" mobs, wich starts an encounter against one or many foes. You can use your own characters skills, move in or out of some spell, and use a quick pause to change the spells used by your allies, even though there's a decent AI command for that. Even though, just like "The Last Remnant", you don't get to choose what stats to boost, in here it's not random but based on your current title when leveling up. So you get to choose what to focus. All the RPG elements lies with the choice of skills, and upgrading gear, choosing with whom to party, but it was actually just enough. I didn't feel the need for more.

Both thoses games left a good impression of me, and i just can't find any decent rpg turn based on PC. Is it because there's none out there ?

I also got expedition :conquistadores, and was quite happy of the way it goes, but the RPG aspect of it is too thin :  choose a party, all of the same professions have the same skills, all have the same equipment improvements, choose how to "level up", aka appoint as sergent or lieutnant, getting slightly boosted stats and one new skill... Not an RPG. It's pure map tactics, and pure luck to not get your loot/rations stolen when camping outside. It got boring quite quickly, always doing the same thing. Barely finished hispaniola, the south america map is HUGE, and just got me disheartened.

If you want more turn based strat than RPG (but with RPG elements) then Jagged Alliance 2 and Silent Storm + Sentinels (silent storm is on steam)

Shadowrun Returns was a recent turn based strat with RPG elements that wasn't bad. Its kind of weak on both points if you play too much, but as a quick diversion its fun for most of the campaign. Story is OK but goes kind of bad towards the end

For RPG's with turn based strat, I'd go with the old classics like Planescape, BG 1 and 2, Steamworks and Magic Obscura, Fallout 1/2 etc

There are some old and decent first person ones too like Wizardry 8 (get it on GoG)

You can try using emulators to play old Japanese RPG's, they work fine and some aren't bad. But as J:RPGs they can be quite repetitive with the fighting. FF7,8,9,X etc. Chrono Cross/Trigger, Xenogears etc
If you have ranged troubles use this:

Strategy with RPG elements, turn based? Get DosBox and get Celtic Tales: Balor of the Evil Eye - addictive and fun for a good while.

also nice tactical RPG are of the sort like

Jagged Allliance
Shadowrun(steam the latest redeveloped one)
Omerta

within these types of games you have 1 to several team members where you increase there stats and work them through a story line.
Now the combat system in these games is the special point. TB yes, you got a Action Point/Movement Point System which is used to shoot, use items and other things for every combat turn. Line of sight and different things which may hinder the line of sight and differrent attack types will give you more or less % chance to hit.

I find it quite enjoyable, while you have a very clear tactical system , there is still a small roll of the dice included which is in most games soething giving you an extra chil  8-)
