Xenus games are decent and have a lot of potential but those are russian games, with emphasis on russian. Like everything russian, they aren't polished up to western standards. Lots of bugs and quirky visuals is something you should expect.

I'm fairly sure you aren't into space/sci-fi games but whatever you do, don't play Parkan series... if you want something sci-fi with open world try Precursors (last game made by studio responsible for Xenus series). But beware, that's russian game as well.

Edit: Forgot to mention two fairly recent games. Game of Thrones official game is fantasy RPG and Mars: War Logs is sci-fi RPG. Both are similar to Gothic.

Gothic series, Risen series, Two Worlds series, Divinity II...

Personally I would start with Risen but Gothic 3 is fine choice as well.

I approve of your choices. Well said dear sire/lady.

Fallout series. Would recommend 1, 2, 3 and New Vegas. 2 and NV are the best, 1 and 3 are good, Fallout Tactics I don't recommend at all. Also recommend Dark Messiah (not like a RPG but a good singleplayer game), Dishonored (same), Deus Ex series (all of them are good).

more RPG like

I heared good things and will try soon Might and Magic 7(VII), it is said it is the best of teh Might and Magic serious. There is a GoG version for it.

Also released on steam a remake of "Shadowrun", the base campagne aint too long, but there seems to be a ton of community campagnes. I quite like the systopian cybermagic theme, which i first was very reluctant but when i tried it out i got into it very fast.

Also if you never tried them , have a look at the DSA "das schwarze Auge" "the black Eye" Series, it is a german based fantasy RPG system, which has spawned a couple of PC games with nice graphics.

Fallout series. Would recommend 1, 2 and New Vegas. 2 and 1 are the best, NV is good, Fallout Tactics and 3 are shitty taints upon the upon the greatest series of games, and should not be mentioned

Fixed

and if you can deal with oldschool style rpgs, Spiderweb Software makes some awesome games

RPG games - nothing beats the old storytelling. I give my favourits and dig in history here. Maybe you missed some oldshool jewels there.

For storybased games:
- Dragonage - adventuregroup rpg. everyone has played it. (Drakensang also not to bad, but not as good imho).
:!: Divinity - real singelplayer action RPG with lots of sidequests and good story - nice fighting system too - and you can go dragon! My secret favourite. If you havent played yet, I recommend it definitly.

For fantasy-combat:
- Dark / Demon Souls: no words
- Die by the sword (if you can get it playing on a new machine? gog? no idea. really old)
- Gothic. Old shool.
:idea:Cursed Crusade: I have not played it yet, but shure gonna buy it soon. Google it and maybe you will like it too...

For fantasy-strategy/rpg:
- spellforce: great story too. If you like a mix of army building and singleplayer questing.
- Dark Omen: Ok, no RpG at all, but alltime fantasy tactics army game of old days - never topped I dare say.

For dungeoncrawls / isometric slay and cast:
:!:Dungeon Siege!!!! best ever (in this category - if you want some story in your hack and slay)
:arrow:The Bards Tale. 80s classic. very entertaining still. If you have missed it and you like dungeoncrawlers well worth it.

And dont forget Fable 1,2 and (forget 3 - although its pretty and nice story it needs ms-life )

If you really enjoy open world stuff like: sacred and oblivion (with skyrim) - I cant help you. Gothic is the only one of this kind, that ever got a thumbs up with me.

Cursed Crusade is a broken game. It really isn't as good as it appears to be on Youtube. Basically, it's one of those failures which I had to uninstall very soon. I personally recommend staying away from it. But it's your call in the end.

the 80's Bards Tale Saga was indeed one of the alltime best created RPG.

there is a remake of Bards Tale from 2004, steam and GoG available. It is super funny and the overall graphics and game mechanics are ok.

Wow guys thanks so much for all the suggestions. It's much appreciated. I've played through a lot of these but there's a few that were mentioned that I haven't so now I at least have a few games to look into!

Also, I do enjoy space/sci-fi games, I just tend to be very picky with them. I liked the little I played of the X series, and I'm definitely going to try Rebirth once that launches!
I'm rock, nerf paper, scissors is fine. Welcome to c-RPG.

Dungeon Siege

Worth it just for the in-game music.

Nothing earth shattering but, for unknown reasons, it made an everlasting impression on me.
