RPG games - nothing beats the old storytelling. I give my favourits and dig in history here. Maybe you missed some oldshool jewels there.
For storybased games:
-
Dragonage - adventuregroup rpg. everyone has played it. (Drakensang also not to bad, but not as good imho).
-
Divinity - real singelplayer action RPG with lots of sidequests and good story - nice fighting system too - and you can go dragon! My secret favourite. If you havent played yet, I recommend it definitly.
For fantasy-combat:
-
Dark / Demon Souls: no words
-
Die by the sword (if you can get it playing on a new machine? gog? no idea. really old)
-
Gothic. Old shool.
-
Cursed Crusade: I have not played it yet, but shure gonna buy it soon. Google it and maybe you will like it too...
For fantasy-strategy/rpg:
-
spellforce: great story too. If you like a mix of army building and singleplayer questing.
-
Dark Omen: Ok, no RpG at all, but alltime fantasy tactics army game of old days - never topped I dare say.
For dungeoncrawls / isometric slay and cast:
-
Dungeon Siege!!!! best ever (in this category - if you want some story in your hack and slay)
-
The Bards Tale. 80s classic. very entertaining still. If you have missed it and you like dungeoncrawlers well worth it.
And dont forget
Fable 1,2 and (forget 3 - although its pretty and nice story it needs ms-life
)
If you really enjoy open world stuff like: sacred and oblivion (with skyrim) - I cant help you. Gothic is the only one of this kind, that ever got a thumbs up with me.
