So, Katana uses two slots.

Which means, my uselessly hybridized character, meant to be a daito-carrying, horse-arching, spear-thrusting samurai in the classic tradition -- that is to say, being able to wield spear or bow, on foot or on horse, while carrying both the long and short swords that signify samurai status.

After all, if you have not mastered spear, bow, horsemanship, and the long and short swords, you aren't really samurai.

chadz, why must you tease me so?  So many pretty armor upgrades, and yet I can never again fight as a samurai. I am now just another in a long line of wannabe kensei.  I can't even be good at that, with my WPF spread all over archery and polearm...

Ah, well. At least some of my other characters still work...

(I wouldn't mind paying a stupidly huge number of dinars for a 2-slot Daito set... X to switch between katana/wakizashi...  a weeabo can dream, can't he?)

Katana two slots? That doesnt really make sense. The strong nerfing of the katana doesnt really make sense anyway, it wasn't overpowered, except in Khorins hands.

well katana is shorter and lighter than alot of 1h swords. so unless 1h swords are 2 slot also its pretty retarded.

i dont get why akatna is 2-slot either... there are lighter 1-slot weaps, and it is carried in your belt as msot other 1-slot weapons.

I always used katana for my hybrids/ranged chars because it is usable with quite low wpf... unfortunately, i cant do taht anymore

So make Wakizashi 0-slot, no-parry weapon?  Make a 2-slot weapon that includes both swords? 

Or just remove all the Japanese stuff entirely. Even that would be better than ALMOST but NOT QUITE being able to play as a Samurai.

A lot of 1h have better reach... and way better thrusting damage...

a little speed (one or 2 point) and better slashing damage for less reach, 2 slot and sucking thrusting damage?!!?

Honestly none of the "bastard" weapons (longsword, bastards, morningstar, katana, goedendag, etc) make sense to take up 2 slots.  They're worn on the hip like any other 1h'd weapon.

To be fair, it wouldn't matter that much actually if they were one slot imo.
There's little difference between katana and langes messer in 2h mode f.e. you don't loose much from going elite scimitar over bastard sword either.
