It was the dawn of a new age in the world of gaming.

The year is 2033.

Project Asinus had evolved from a simple undeveloped thought in to the most ambitious gaming project in the history of the world. For the past half century, from the dawn of the creation of video games, gamers had cried out for a game that encompassed everything that a gamer could ever want in a game. As the project grew, and the ideas developed, Project Asinus was brought to Kickstarter where it received enough funding for the tiny group of mod developers to open a true gaming studio.

Their leader, who went by the in game name 'chadz' had always developed with a simple mantra: Gameplay before profit. The game was an open ended sandbox game, utilizing a newly developed gaming engine. The universe of Project Asinus was massive, and it took years to complete, and during that time the funding quickly ran out. chadz slaved away at the project, driving himself to bankruptcy as he was eventually forced to fund most of the project himself. Project Asinus eventually dwindled and faded, and it was just another unfulfilled idea atop a heap of other ambitious unfinished projects.

Years later, chadz, hand-in-hand with Gaben who is still alive thanks to some remarkable nano-bots who continuously clean his clogged arteries emerge at E3.

It is revealed that chadz refused to give up on his dream. Living in a dark apartment alone, chadz continued the work that his failed gaming studio had started. It took him nearly twenty years, but he completed it. Alone. He brought the completed project to Valve, and they were financing the production and release of the game.

The gameplay footage and trailers released at E3 astounded true gamers who followed the event. The graphics were amazing. The world was the biggest ever seen in a game before. It was the first game in five years that did not utilize motion controls made famous by the Nintendo Wii or Xbox Kinect. It had elements of an RPG, with a massively multiplayer world, amazing combat, and even the mythos of the world was intriguing and excited gamers.

It broke the record for most preorders of a game in history by a staggering amount. Nearly half the world's population preordered his game, and soon chadz was back on his feet and filthy rich, but this new found success did not rest will some people.

Electronic Arts, which had since been responsible for nearly monopolizing the gaming industry saw their down fall was imminent. So they did what had to be done. They killed chadz.

chadz stood atop a stage, at a podium, speaking to his new adoring fans. He was preparing to give a final release date for the game. The cameras were rolling. The entire world was listening. The entire world was watching, and then there was a bang.

A man stood up from the middle of the group of press that had gathered with a sawed off shotgun, and with one resounding blast, chadz lay dying on the stage.

One of chadz best friends, and most adoring fans, TugBoat, rushed to the stage, tears streaming down his face, "NO!" He shouted out in a blind rage. TugBoat took out his swiss army knife and gutted chadz' assassin like a fish before rushing to cradle chadz beautiful head in his lap.

"No.. it can't end like this. chadz.. don't die..." TugBoat cried out in anguish as he rocked chadz' head.

"It's okay.. TugBoat, it'll be alright. It was not meant to be.. I am feeling alright now.." he said when he could, when he was not choking on his own blood, "I can see the light, TugBoat. I am happy now. I am going away to be with my darling Emma..."

"No! chadz! Go away from the light!" TugBoat weeped as he shook him, "DON'T YOU DIE ON ME DAMNIT!"

"TugBoat, I am not dying. I am being set free. Project Asinus will go on without me. It will be released... do you think people will enjoy it?"

TugBoat laughed through his tears, "Of course they will Old Bear, they'll love it. Children will laugh as they play it, women will cry tears of joy, men will get more fulfillment out of that game than they will in their real lives. It's a dream come true.. and you'll be here to see it, right Old Bear?"

And with that, chadz breathed his last breath, and his death rattle was heard.

chadz was floating. He looked about him as he floated through a dark abyss as blue butterflies flew about him. One landed on the tip of his nose and fluttered its wings across his cheeks before flying away. Then there was a light above him. chadz turned towards it and swam towards it, swimming through the darkness towards the light with his butterfly friends at his flank, "Here I come Emma. We will be together at last." And then there was only light.

It was a footnote in a neo-chocolate chip cookie propaganda newspaper. A man had died; the newspaper stated that he was found “working on a collage of equus africanus asinuss and swords for his World History 203 class.” NANCY_DREW_FART_DETECTIVE had discovered the newspaper on a fart scene, and it smelled… suspicious. Wednesday seemed like a regular day up until that point; NANCY_DREW_FART_DETECTIVE went into the precinct like normal, picking up a real nose-grabbing case, where the main suspect was the one who “smelt it” first. NANCY_DREW_FART_DETECTIVE arrived on the scene at approximately 11:00 in the morning, taking time to clear his head and his nose with a cup of coffee. After blowing his nose, he promptly bent down behind the people at the scene, smelling their butts and then the air around them.

While investigating the smell, the uniforms on the scene came up to NANCY_DREW_FART_DETECTIVE and handed him the newspaper, hoping that the disgusting propaganda could help identify the crook. He took the paper, smelling it down, finding nothing out of the ordinary, until he got to the bottom with the murder story. The man who died was identified as chadz, obviously a pseudonym to hide the real victim’s name, and NANCY_DREW_FART_DETECTIVE knew this, almost as much as he knew who the suspect was at the fart scene. After identifying the farter to the traumatized bystanders, NANCY_DREW_FART_DETECTIVE left the scene, hoping to find out more about this “chadz.”

On the street, NANCY_DREW_FART_DETECTIVE caught the same scent he smelled on the murder story. He got into his Hybrid, which was fueled by pure farts, and took off. Following the smell he found himself on the doorstep of an old duplex, the door blocked off by police tape. Ignoring the law and shouting “Fuck the police!” NANCY_DREW_FART_DETECTIVE opened the door. Inside he found a chalk-drawing of what could only be described as a centaur, if the horse part was actually an equus africanus asinus. Stepping over the pile of Creedence Clearwater Revival CDs and DVD of Big Money Rustlas, NANCY_DREW_FART_DETECTIVE found himself in a room that smelled like a combination of AXE body spray and the nastiest fart he ever smelled. In the room he spotted a bed with sheets from the movie Shrek of Eddie Murphy’s equus africanus asinus character, and a sword on a pedestal with the words Winter is Coming inscribed on it. NANCY_DREW_FART_DETECTIVE walked up to the computer in the center of the room, finding some gnarly tabs open in Netscape Navigator of online dildo repositories and another of a fan page for the show Two and a Half Men, where “chadz” was a forum moderator.

Minimizing the internet browser, NANCY_DREW_FART_DETECTIVE found a video game running in a window, titled Mount and Blade: Warband. Telling himself that it’s helping the case, NANCY_DREW_FART_DETECTIVE attempted to join a server. Suddenly, he heard a maniacal laugh, as a man with a Chav accent and a doctor’s coat walked up to NANCY_DREW_FART_DETECTIVE from behind. After a series of sentences that were incomprehensible by NANCY_DREW_FART_DETECTIVE, the infamous fart detective remembered the movie Attack the Block and suddenly understood. The “doctor” went on about this being his block and talking about “fam,” and NANCY_DREW_FART_DETECTIVE learned that this man’s name was BADPLAYER. As NANCY_DREW_FART_DETECTIVE got up to run away, BADPLAYER pulled a lever that caused the detective to be pulled backwards. BADPLAYER laughed as NANCY_DREW_FART_DETECTIVE flew into the screen, finding himself turned two-dimensional in a video game world with Nintendo 64 graphics.

NANCY_DREW_FART_DETECTIVE looked around, frantically, unable to smell anything. He was surrounded by generic looking characters that called each other sperglords and moved unrealistically. Finding what looked like a crossbow on a ragdoll, NANCY_DREW_FART_DETECTIVE moved to avoid being bludgeoned by these video game characters. NANCY_DREW_FART_DETECTIVE found a corner to sit in and gather himself, realizing that BADPLAYER must have been the one to kill this so-called “chadz.” The fart detective instantly thought that he must of been sent into this world as his fart detecting skills would have exposed BADPLAYER, and everyone knew that Chav’s smelled the worst.

NANCY_DREW_FART_DETECTIVE decided that the only exit was to join in the fray, and hoisted his crossbow. Aiming at another character wielding a crossbow, NANCY_DREW_FART_DETECTIVE unleashed a bolt. As the bolt impacted the head of the man, the words appeared in the sky:

“NANCY_DREW_FART_DETECTIVE killed chadz.
NANCY_DREW_FART_DETECTIVE killed a teammate!”

He had killed the man he was looking for. He had been the assassin, causing the untimely death of the man whom he only knew as chadz. NANCY_DREW_FART_DETECTIVE sat down and shook his head in disgust, and decided to live out the rest of his life fighting in the medieval landscape he found himself in, the game of Internet Horses.
