Not really, it is a mix of good range, good speed and good damage (stab/cut). If you choose bigger swords you always get an advantage for an disadvantage, more length for less speed etc.

It's harder to play but if you're skilled enough to minimize the downfalls and use the advantage right you will be more effective in the end.

well, if you're good at using the advantages right and compensate for the disadvantages, you're good with any weapon

I started heirlooming a Danish, but I wish that I had gone for German instead. Once fully masterworked, the German has +4 pierce damage over the Danish, and only -2 cut damage. I'd rather have the +4 pierce thrust of the German than +2 cut slash of the Danish.

As for the +1 length, no, I don't think even the best players could turn such a small increase in length into a significant bonus in combat. If it was +5 then perhaps...

In a german vs danish fight it does, otherwise not really.

I think longsword is a much better all purpose weapon than the other swords such as the greatsword and danish greatsword etc. Longer ranger weapons are better when you have a lot of room and are one on one, but they often graze instead of inflicting full damage on enemies when you are too close. Shorter range weapons do not graze as often when you are closer to the enemy. When you are fighting multiple enemies at a very close range, such as when you are walking up a siege ladder, it's preferable to have a weapon like the longsword. This alone makes the longsword a better all purpose weapon because it allows you to perform at the very least well in more situations; whereas you are limited at times with longer range weapons.

Stabs make pierce damages and - if I am correct - armors suffer a penalty of 50% against pierce attacks.

So a difference of +3 pierce damages could be interpreted as a factual +6 against armored opponents. +6 is such a big difference, without mentioning the masterwork version, truly deadly. The Deutsch sword has really an edge.

I prefer the great sword, but there is a strong case to be made for the longsword as well in my opinion.

The longsword at base level is nothing much, but comparing it to the other options at masterwork, I think that it's on par with the other top choices. It's a facehug weapon for 2h, so it depends on style, I suppose.

I have a weapons calculator algorithm that calculates how good a weapon is.

I was disappointed to find out that 2 handers really are balanced. Mathematically, there really is no best choice of 2h weapon.  (my goal was to be cheap and forever use the best weapon in secret QQ)

Flamberge gets a little low on the score and Katana is good for dueling, but overall the swords are fairly balanced.  If I had to pick I would say 2 handed sword is the best simply because it can handle duels well also.
