Well i am at the same situation, lucky there's good advice here :)
There seems to be a lot of 2-h funny costumes blokes in this mod.
Nothing you want to start with as a new to Mount & Blade.

It seems that a lot of new players to Mount & Blade: Warband are jumping right into the cRPG mod and that is a mistake, unless you have a lot of patience in learning to play.
Everyone should play the native version to get comfortable with the game play when starting out. Like many suggest here, use the trainers for dueling, which will  help hone your skills.

Ok, just going to ask this question here since I don't want to spam up the forum with new threads.

I just got to level 23 for my 1h/shielder. I ended up picking up a crossbow for a sidearm and I like it very much. I was wondering if I wanted to specialize in crossbow and perhaps some other melee weapon what would be a good build and should I reset my character or just create a new one or just wait until 31 and do the hairloom thing?

Depends how long u want to wait. If u want to try builds out keep making new STF characters (delete the old one first).

It takes a long time for the average guy to get to lvl 31 and you need to know what build you're going for from level 1 really.
