Need help for a cavalry build

I'm going to take a cavalry build next generation so I would like to ask if anyone had some good ideas for a build.

unless you are a pro lancer, a shield is recommended.  I cant count the number of times shield has saved me and also prevented some damage to horse.  even 2-3 skill is helpful, although I would recommend 4 to use the knightly kite shield

For a polearm shield, well your kinda fucked with the blue slot system, but this one here is actually pretty good.

Yes, you need that much agi because you need that much wpf. The shield slows down you polearm SO MUCH that any wpf you can get is valuable.

For equipmentsets:
1) heavy lance (2 slots), shield (knightly or elite cavalry (both 1 slot)), and military fork (1).
2) Light lance (2), shield (1), shortened spear (1).

The first one is basicaly heavy lance on horse, m. fork when dehorsed.
The secound one is light lance on horse, but also when dehorsed. If your caught alone and enemy inf is you change to shortened spear. But if you got teammates around you or only cav is attacking you, then the light lance is VERY usefull. It's both fast and long so perfect for a hoplite.

Zapper I think you've totally put the idea of a shield polearm guy off for me now. I've decided to go polearm only with a backup incase I get dehorsed, Thanks for the help though.

I'm polearm cavalry with a heavy lance, elite cavalry shield and a quarterstaff that I use without a shield when i'm dismounted. I use this build and do pretty well with it:

In my experience I find that WPF for cavalry is useless and not much better for infantry.

I'd say go for higher str, so you can one-hit mid-armour enimies from horseback
I personally like 15 agi because it lets me use heavy horses, gives a decent amount of wpf and leaves enough str to 1 hit

5 PS is fine if you are using aheavy lance, that gets greater speed bonus from horse.  So his higher riding means his horse accelerates faster and has higher top speed.  bad player is a beast on heavy horses

oh, Polearm and shield is actually a very good option (but the HARDEST one there is. THIS IS NOT EASYMODE!) but you kinda have to be ON FOOT to use it to it's fullest. Those skillpoints used in riding puts you a bit back but so does those two slots for whatever lance you are using. polearm and shield is a good choice but for horsemen you lose lots of equipment options. Then again you don't NEED a lance. A shield + warpsear/red tassel spear can be used both on foot and horse. You just can't couch and lose some reach.

I used both and first one is much better.
As you see I dont like athletic because most time i spend on saddle. I dont even use secondary weapon to fight on foot - Heavy Lance - Queen of Weapons FTW !!
Shield is mainly for ranged protection. If it breaks hmmm... sometimes happens - manual blocks are not so bad - they work even from behind LOL (I swear!)

PS.
If you want more power you can also go build number two 24/15 8PS but -1 Riding and -1 WM. Slower but stronger.

Care to elaborate why?  Considering I top the scoreboards of nearly every Battle server match and Strategus battle, I think its pretty decent..

The man speaks the truth, he does pretty damn well with that build, though I personally use a slightly modified version, remove 4 ATHL and the 3 IF and raise AGIL to 27 and add one riding. I like to go zoom zoom.
