General Discussion / Re: samurais weapons

yes the katana was mostly designed for cutting, but do you honestly think katana deserves only 2 more thrust damage than a wooden sword?

currently all the stab does is bounce.

Yes that's true, since it was designed for cutting, it's still very pointy, more than most of the european weapons, so, a thrusting against a leatherarmor between katana and longsword, sorry Europa, i bet on Japan :)

Khorin, it's not about the "looking", it's about the function, it's absolutely the same, cut with the tip.

First of all, sorry my sleepy bad english right now... but...

Katanas were used to thrust, but only against bad (leather) or not armored enemys, because it was really hard to thrust trough a samurai armor since it was exactly against that invented (multiple tiers of different materials).
To be correct, in the most "schools" of handling a  katana, they were allocated to used just Mono-Uchi (the upper part of 3 equal parts of the blade).
The "tip" of the Katana, also called Kissaki, was used to cut mostly, like these little invention from japan you all know

And about the nodachi... it hardly depends on the length of it, if it's still a nodachi and not an odachi, it was mostly used like a katana, but if actually was to long, also an odachi, it was more used like a polearm and especially NOT to thrust, because it easily would've break.

Don't think the game has ever been this balanced before, so great job devs.  :D Cav is still a bit too strong in my opinion tho, 1shotting everything they run past.

Dude, it's actually already much harder since prepatch to be a lancer, just try it out and shut up, we're enough nerfed...

Well i think it'd be a good compromise like this...

Katana
difficulty: 13(instead of 12)
speed rating: 99(instead of 101[ or even faster])
thrust damage: 24 pierce
swing damage: 36 cut (instead of 38)
weapon length: 105 (instead of 95)

Fair and realistic.

This guy called chadz spent alot of his time to develope a mod for hundreds of player, nobody forces you to donate and he never said he wants to become a competition for SEGA, EA, whoever...

He's just spending some of his time to step by step finish a mod for a game, which he likes to do.

A great mod, with internet-support, FOR FREE!

So... seriously shut up, enjoy what you got and if there comes more, it'll, when not, nobody's(hould-be) missing.

I disagree the topic itself, it's just nonsense to get damage by system for hitting someone who is on your team, if he really wants punishment, he'll strike back, end of story.

At least they could give XP penalty for tking, but still, nonsense.

As far as i know that's a Tanto, not a "ninja sword". It's again another samurai weapon, one made to pierce. The katanas you know nowdays combine that sword's piercing abilities with another japanse curved sword (looks like a more curved katana) that was made for cutting only. 15th century or so a blacksmith made the katanas, a mix of those two earlier swords, that combined the best of both. Ninjas don't have specific weaponry as they weren't soldiers, they were spies and assassins. You could find them using anything you'd find in Japan/China on those earlier eras, which included samurai weaponry.

1. Tanto = Dagger (curved, around 30cm long)
2. You probably mean the "tachi", which is also known as a ceremony-sword and a cavalry-sword (was weared normally, like european would wear a katana, with the cutting edge downside, but just on horseback), this was longer than a katana (120-150cm) and even more curved.
3. There was really no special weaponry for the ninjas, until they called themselves ninjas, then they produced special weapons like the raven-feet, just as an example.

Ask more if you want to know, otherways you can read much 'bout in the internet, i can tell you some things that are true and not, if you want.

BTT:
I really hope they get into the patch, together with the armors, maybe they'll get done better in a time far away.

No, it isn't. Katana is traditionally a samurai weapon. Ninjas used smaller weapons usually due the being assassins. The weapon in korgoth's post is seen as the "ninja sword" usually (not that there was any standard.)

1. Some Ninja were also promoted to use the katana.
2. It's called Nin-to.

Like!

Must be in next patch! :D

Suggestions Corner / Re: Balance or Authenticity?

That is not my question, i don't even think 'bout to get them removed, even if they were just something like an easter-egg, but i really want to know, if we could make a suggestion to chadz by this polling, because, in my opinion, to get a game really balanced, you would need to make just one stat-template per itemgroup and just different skins/models, so you can get a game balanced, the idea behind M&B was an authentic medieval fight simulator and authentic mostly means everything else than balanced, but that's just my opinion.

Suggestions Corner / Balance or Authenticity?
« on: February 12, 2011, 08:05:19 pm »
I want to do a suggestion to chadz, depending on the result of this poll, because i'm really sad to hear the half of the community all day long crying 'bout the game is not balanced and the other half of the community is crying like "These samurai-my old friends were not in medieval fights!"... Whatever, i wanted to know what this community really wants, an authentic or balanced game?
Because, the game itself was thinked to be a "Mounted-Medieval-Fight-Simulator", of course they did not take real names for most things, but they tried to do them authentic.

I don't want to see any crying here, i want to see facts, opinions and arguments.
