Tip #1 - Don't loom a longbow.
Tip #2 - When leveling, build evenly and use each bow in turn. Once you have reached the max in one skill for your build, then and only then start building unevenly eg 3/3, 6/6, 9/9,... 18/18, 21/18
Tip #3 - Don't go above PD 7.
Tip #4 - Don't loom a longbow.
Tip #5 - For hard hitting go with Rus Bow 21 str/18 Agi - PD 7 - WM 6 - 156 WPF
Tip #6 - Don't loom a longbow.
Tip #7 - For fast and accurate take a Horn Bow with PD 5 and WM  9 - 180 WPF
Tip #8 - Put any extra skills into IF - Don't bother with Athletics
Tip #9 - Don't loom a longbow
Tip #10 - If you prefer to miss your shots, waste your points on skills that have been nerfed to the dust, be frustrated while leveling and want an heirloom that you will want to break and can't sell, ignore the tips above.

So I think I'm gonna loom a longbow. *Badum-tiss*

I'll refrain from skipping the fun. I want to loom a longbow.

So, I'd like to know if some of the more experienced archers could offer some help to a newbie?

And how exactly can a melee damage a ranged? Any ranged would just shoot at you till you get close, than this would give him the advantage in a melee fight, despite his lower wpf/ps.
That's kind of
The point of being ranged
Major advantage before you close in and rip his face off/engage

Use a shield till you get close
You can still carry a shield and your bigass two-hander.

Think this might promote shield walls, 1hnd and shield in front, 2 handers in back

So, yes lots of support.

Pick a sword will you. 2 stacks of arrows are more than enough.

P.S.: Set your melee weapon in the first slot - if you don't spawn in a melee you can switch to bow with your first click.
I run out of arrows when I only have 32

how about you grab a melee weapon instead, this isn't LotR and you aren't legolas :X

What.
I don't
Huh
*Confused* I don't even remember Legolas using his bow like that...
And because I'll have less arrows, that's why

For game balance: No, I want archers to carry a melee weapon and gauge when they need to switch.

For realism: No, the high stress on a bow means even a noticeable chip will have it ... do nasty things... I have seen it, and the whiplash is not pretty.

I would be ok though if it had the ability to switch to melee but not back to range to represent you abusing your bow and damaging it.
Ah, I'll keep up my master boxing training then.
Although if you unstrung the bow, would it then function as a better staff?
Make a sort of casting time for stringing/unstringing the bow

Here's an idea, a command or something that will allow you to use your bow as a melee weapon.
Obviously some sort of staff/stick type thing depending on the bow.
As it's disheartening to spawn 5ft from an enemy and end with 3 options, assuming you're playing pure archer.
1) Punch punch punch, die 99.5% of the time (I've killed a few spearmen, which is always hilarious)
2) Run run run, *Throwing weapon'd*
3) Try to shoot and get smashed mid animation.

Atleast if you're some sort of master melee god you're chance of survival is higher than 0.5

Not entirely sure it's possible, or how complex M&B scripts can get.

This should be pretty much same or better as longbow. For historical accuracy of course.
Bad for game balance mind you.

Just wondering how useful the skill is...
Is it really going to make a difference?

Hm
As-long as it's good epic music

This is the worst suggestion ever. Simply put diversity is what makes CRPG fun, not only does this effectively only limit archers from getting any 2hers crossbowmen and throwers will become drastically more powerful as they tend to have high strength anyway. Considering there have been no or almost no "pure" archers since the massive archer nerfs this would likely just drive archery completely out of existence. And if this suggestion was ever put in place I would argue that you should require dex enough to allow you to block, or move in any form of armour without massive speed inhibitions maybe even just some form of general speed penalty for not having enough dexterity. There is always a price that needs to be payed for every alteration in the game mechanics, this is to maintain a form of balance and if you basically limited any 2hers difficulty 12 and up to str builds something would need to justify it. Something other than being annoyed because archers carry axes and kill you with them.
I'm a pure archer ._.

Seeing at the majority of the shots involve hitting targets taking a really long walk I think the longbow might be better, considering I miss a lot of shots ._.
