Bow to Staff

Here's an idea, a command or something that will allow you to use your bow as a melee weapon.
Obviously some sort of staff/stick type thing depending on the bow.
As it's disheartening to spawn 5ft from an enemy and end with 3 options, assuming you're playing pure archer.
1) Punch punch punch, die 99.5% of the time (I've killed a few spearmen, which is always hilarious)
2) Run run run, *Throwing weapon'd*
3) Try to shoot and get smashed mid animation.

Atleast if you're some sort of master melee god you're chance of survival is higher than 0.5

Not entirely sure it's possible, or how complex M&B scripts can get.

For game balance: No, I want archers to carry a melee weapon and gauge when they need to switch.

For realism: No, the high stress on a bow means even a noticeable chip will have it ... do nasty things... I have seen it, and the whiplash is not pretty.

I would be ok though if it had the ability to switch to melee but not back to range to represent you abusing your bow and damaging it.
I'm not normal and I don't pretend so, my approach is pretty much a bomb crescendo.
Death is a fun way to pass the time though, several little bullets moving in staccato.
The terror of my reign will live on in infamy, singing when they die like a dead man's symphony.

Ah, I'll keep up my master boxing training then.
Although if you unstrung the bow, would it then function as a better staff?
Make a sort of casting time for stringing/unstringing the bow

Pick a sword will you. 2 stacks of arrows are more than enough.

P.S.: Set your melee weapon in the first slot - if you don't spawn in a melee you can switch to bow with your first click.

What.
I don't
Huh
*Confused* I don't even remember Legolas using his bow like that...
And because I'll have less arrows, that's why

I say allow an alt-attack, but only for the largest bows.  This may be the buff that the warbow/longbow need to earn their price back.  I'd advise, though, that it be primarily a blocking weapon with limited reach, speed, and no stab.  The last thing this game needs are Harmless Longbowmen.

If they ever do this, I will be tempted to make a 30 STR build with 10PS and use nothing but the bow, no arrows mind you, just the bow for the lulz.

I love this idea, i'm glad someone else thought it would be good.

I mean, the number of times that I want to hit x in order to be able to attack with the bow are numerous, although these days I have already Masterworked my longsword, i'd still love to see this happen.

Please don't say it's hard coded! D:

On first glance, I loved the idea, but tears is right.  Clever thought though.

I think if 2 stacks of arrows isn't enough for you, you should probably be spamming less arrows...  I've played a pure archer build, and 2 stacks were always enough.  If you want to fire indiscriminately into the enemy with 3 stacks, well, having no melee is just the cross you have to bear.

I understand the thought behind this and some other ranged weapons have not-so-realistic alternate modes as well (e.g. war darts), so why not make arrows a stick-it-in-the-eye-melee-weapon as well...

But I think we have enough unrealistic nonsense in M&B, and if you ever tried to use a real arrow in that way, or, even worse, your delicate, pressssssious bow... naaa.
Any archer should carry at least a fashionable dagger or something "bigger" to have fun in melee - even if it is a very brief fun usually.
Sometimes I even carry 1h +  shield, which makes kill whores complain about the baaaaad shield archers, because they hate everything they can not one-hit, at least not all of the time... ;-)

Boxing, kicking, hopping and whistling is the other option. Or make your looks so ugly so that they turn and run when they get too close...
Hermit Status report : feeling a little social. Threatening melee my old friends with a comeback. Greasing the string of his old longbow. Carving certain names into the tips of his arrows...
