Title: Revival patch build thread

Accoring to this table, lvl 35 will be the new retirement standard and lvl 36 seems achievable. The curve gets very steep beyond that. Of course, there will probably be changes to the wpf system or even some bigger changes, but that doesent mean we cant speculate.

Post lvl 35, lvl 36 or sperglord lvl 37 builds. Doesent matter if they are serious or just for fun, let see dem builds.

Personally havent decided yet between these two builds, id like to hear some opinions:

I would definitely go with the latter. I run 21/21 on one of my chars atm and have been wanting to switch to 18/24 for AGES. The 1 PS is barely noticeable, but that extra 1 WM and ATH helps a ton. And is way more fun. (imo)

Being able to zip in and out of an enemies range and really abuse footwork will help you in fights way more than 1 extra powerstrike. Pretty sure that won't even affect the amount of times you hit an enemy before they die, except in very specific situations and with certain weapons.

For example, with the average weapon against someone at full health, say it takes you 3 hits to kill that person. With that exact same weapon, the exact same swings (for the purpose of comparison), but with 1 less PS and the added wpf from extra WM, I think generally you'd still need 3 hits to kill them. That sounds a bit convoluted, but hopefully you get the gist.

agree with Grumbs and others. I feel like average level should be around 32-33 (as average I'm considering the amount of time spent by some people on this game, in a normal situation I'd have put it at 31) and you won't have many probelms as to fixing classes since it'll be as it'll mostly be as it is now, extremely balanced.

the best thing though are the free respec and the little time required to level up; honestly I'd remove all the previous level (1-25) and have fewer,  that seems to be the most interesting thing

Don't fall for the trap! We agree 21/21 builds now can fuck things up already, go for more WM and some xbow or throwing. Lets add some variety in builds

I'm hoping that the requirements get silly (30+ STR for plate n stuff) so that brawny walrus-men get unique 'rewards' for getting fat.

I'm also hoping that IF gets buffed so that players might consider building around it (rather than just using it as the junk pile for leftover points). I hope there's a real tradeoff between a 16 conversion 24/24 build (8 ath, 8ps, 7 wm @36) vs 10 conversion 21/24 one.

Mostly I'm excited to make throwing-lance torpedo-cav.

I know the possibilities, but none of them is tempting.

4 riding - only rouncey/steppe horse - meh
4 shield - without 1h/pole not really, situational for 2h but I don't care about ranged  :mrgreen:
4 PT - can be cool, but my armor setup/wpf will be problem

On the other hand I can say "Good bye" to 8 HP and make monster... I will have headache  :rolleyes:

Lvl 37 is weird because you can't get a "complete" build, so I'm thinking about dumping 4 pts in Power Throw (I enjoyed huscarl builds back in the day when siege was populated; hopefully "Revival" will revive siege as well):

(click to show/hide)

Perhaps the new XP/level curve was chosen for this reason; encourage people to hybrid. Most people will be lvl 37, which will always require non-maxed IF, str/agi at non-multiples of 3, or extra points in shield/riding/ranged.
Title: Re: Revival patch build thread
Post by: San on October 15, 2014, 08:22:12 pm
If you're going to wear any decent armor, maxing IF is going to be good . I'm thinking of 24-21 or 21-24 and 2 shield if I change from 15-30.

I am waiting for full patch notes with balance changes and new items before I decide, but this looks like it will be fun:

Level 36

21 Strength
24 Agility

5 Ironflesh
7 Power Strike
8 Athletics
8 Weapon Master

All WPF into 2H or polearm (probably polearm)

Going by the formula San posted, my WPF malus should let me wear 17 weight of armor with 0 WPF penalty. That means that plate would barely reduce my WPF. I would have 1 less PS and 1 more athletics/weapon master than the build on my recently retired level 35 char. And 5 Ironflesh to boot for extra HP.

My main is probably going to be this:

Strength: 21
Agility: 24

Ironflesh: 5
Powerstrike: 7
Shield: 4
Athlethics: 8
Weapon Master: 8

1h: 40 wpf
Pole: 170+

Which is gonna leave me with 4 less hitpoints than before, but ah well. Need the shield skill for those end round fights against archers and in case hoplite gets good again.

This will be the most balanced patch ever. Before there was quite the number of lvl 35/36 players while most of the retiring folks were lvl 30 or bellow. After this patch difference between most players will be 2 levels (lvl 35 vs lvl 37 or lvl 36 vs lvl 38). As you can see, very few will be lvl 38 and no one will ever become lvl 39.

Probably, if you can block well it should be a mighty build, but since ironflesh matters more now with increasing effective wpf i would guess most will opt for a 21/24 or 24/21
Title: Re: Revival patch build thread
Post by: Harpag on October 16, 2014, 03:32:32 pm
I had for a moment @37 24/24 shielder idea (8PS 8 ATH 5WM 5SH) but it's a bit risky, so still not decided cuz 21/24 is safe mode and still decent build.
The biggest snag is that there is no ideal solutions, and in addition devs can change formula and then again will be streams of tears, so you should rethink balanced builds.
My current build (@36) is almost perfect for me (21/21 7PS 7IF 7ATH 7SH and 7WM 170 1h) but I am tempted by this @37 24/24 and don't know what to do... but if it's true that we will get a free respec without penalty once every 7 days (subject to change :O) everyone will be able to try different options and it's fantastic!

I think you must have misread something... the new formula for wpf malus is whichever is greater, either your IF*2 or your str/3. In this case you can wear a total effective weight of only 10 (5IF*2=10) before you receive wpf malus. Your str divided by 3 only allows for 7 weight, but the new formula takes the larger value, so it goes based off of your IF. 10 was the weight before malus prior to the patch, so actually your wpf malus won't change at all. I am guessing that you thought the new formula was IF*2 + str/3?
Title: Re: Revival patch build thread

I think you must have misread something... the new formula for wpf malus is whichever is greater, either your IF*2 or your str/3.

According to calculator on the website that's not true. Every point in IF above 4 decrease effective armor weight and wpf penalty.
Title: Re: Revival patch build thread
Post by: San on October 17, 2014, 08:50:45 pm
Max of 6, IF*2, and Str/3 is the threshold. If you have low strength and IF, you'll just have a threshold of 6.

Currently: 2 * head weight + body weight + leg weight + 4 * glove weight - 10 with a small exponential scaling at the end for the weight penalty.
Post patch (potentially): 2 * head weight + body weight + leg weight + 6 * glove weight - the threshold listed above with the same exponential scaling
Title: Re: Revival patch build thread
Post by: Jona on October 17, 2014, 09:20:59 pm
Post patch (potentially): 2 * head weight + body weight + leg weight + 6 * glove weight - the threshold listed above with the same exponential scaling

Given this, my total effective weight is: 2(2.4) + 12.9 + 0.8 + 6(0.7) = 22.7

22.7- 2(6) = 10.7 wpf malus due to weight.

What exactly does this 10.7 mean? I have a maximum of 184 wpf, and according to all the calculators, post-patch I will have an effective wpf of 167.

184 - 10.7 = ~173 =/= 167.

Is 10.7 the percent of wpf we lose? In that case 184 * .107 = 19.688

184 - 19.688 = ~164 =/= 167

So it still doesn't work out nicely... any insight you could give us as to what the number left over after finding your effective weight and subtracting the threshold actually means?

I don't get it why people are making lvl 36 and lvl 37 builds. Is it possible that everyone is such a grinder?

Anyway, how's crossbow these days? I haven't played in a while and I am wondering is it worth it or still overnerfed?

Math stuff

The math seems a bit convoluted to me as well, I don't know when the math.pow(eweight, 1.12) line got added.

It could help if you looked at crpg_functions.js via firebug or this direct link. (https://0b176db51ec327b013e6b005fde2cca145eb9267.googledrive.com/host/0Bzs1vJv0tQLHZ3AwLUQ0Tkt0djg/script/crpg_functions.js)

Related functions:

Code: [Select]
/* Gets effective wpf properly! */
function getEffectiveWeight(helmet, chest, hand, feet, strength, ironflesh) {

helmet = parseFloat(helmet);
chest = parseFloat(chest);
hand = parseFloat(hand);
feet = parseFloat(feet);
strength = parseFloat(strength);
ironflesh = parseFloat(ironflesh);
threshold = Math.max(Math.max(ironflesh * 2, strength / 3), 6);

var eweight = Math.pow(Math.max(0, 2*helmet + chest + feet + 6*hand - threshold), 1.12);
return eweight;
}

function getPowerPenalty(ps, weaponType){

var penalty = 0;

if(weaponType == "Bow")
penalty = - Math.round(Math.max(14 * ps - Math.pow(1.35,ps) - 35, 0) * 10) / 10; //round to nearest decimal place
else if(weaponType == "Throwing")
penalty = - (ps * 11);
else penalty = 0;
return penalty;
}

function getHaWpfPenalty(ha, weaponType, mounted){

var haPenalty = 0;
var ifRanged = (weaponType == "Bow" || weaponType == "Throwing" || weaponType == "Crossbow");
if(mounted && ifRanged)
{
haPenalty = - ha * 10;
}
return haPenalty;

}

function getWeightPenalty(nerfed_wpf, effectiveWeight, weaponType, ha, mounted) {

var ifRanged = (weaponType == "Bow" || weaponType == "Throwing" || weaponType == "Crossbow");
var weightMulti;
if(ifRanged) //ranged receive an extra penalty from armor weight
{

weightMulti = Math.abs(effectiveWeight - 100);
}
else
{
weightMulti = Math.abs((2 * effectiveWeight)/3 - 100)

}

var wpf_penalty = ((weightMulti * nerfed_wpf) / 100);

return wpf_penalty - nerfed_wpf; //results in a negative
}

/* Gets effective wpf properly! */
function getEffectiveWPF(wpf, ps, effectiveWeight, weaponType, ha, mounted) {

Code stuff

So after doing a power function, I got 14.22 as my wpf malus, which lines up with what the tampermonkey website script says. However, both the calculator and the tampermonkey script say I still have 167 effective wpf. And well, 184-14.2 is 169.8, not 167. It's close, but not quite there.

Side-note that i said even before this patch, 50 Str should allow you to nudge horses

I don't think Voncrow is actually lvl 38; NA side it's probably only like 4-5 people with that much XP.

Strength/Agility should work fine up to 63 though.

I just hopped onto EU2 and I'm not sure what you guys across the pond consider an agi whore, or what you consider "lots," cuz all I noticed were strength crutching kings (with a couple agi whores sprinkled in here and there)! EU2 feels so much like the old, pre-str nerf days of NA2... everyone is a heavily armored 2h hero. And it's pretty fun running circles around them, despite the terrible packet loss issues. The only things missing are my (NA) siege bros... and the ability to be a hero, of course!  :wink:

Wasn't my opinion 2 years ago, so, I doubt it  :lol:  It doesn't makes me avoiding missing clear shots with pin point accuracy. The skill you get with aiming, the game doesn't matter, comes from somewhere, and it's training. To be honest, it's a curse. You like archery, you train, you like it even more, you train to be better etc. And it never stopped, especially since I did apply for mercs.  :wink:

According to calculator on the website that's not true. Every point in IF above 4 decrease effective armor weight and wpf penalty.

calculator is trash. game makes 0 sense. never understood having debates on anything in this game

Debating stuff in any video game is a nerdy waste of time unless you make money off of it, but you don't have to get med about it.

I've been screwing around with strength stacked builds lately, they seem to do OK in battle as long as you bring a long-reach medium to high speed weapon (94+ for pole) and take advantage of the fact that AGI builds depend on speed bonus to do damage as much as possible. High STR/Actually getting IF is gets more effective in siege/in groups of high armor people, but NA siege is ded and NA battle's full of sanic hegehogs.

getting almost oneshotted by a staff with 64 head armor and 70 body armor goes against every damage calculator i tested. their is no rhyme or reason to this game. which in its own right is great!! too in depth and realistic can cripple the fun factor.

I like theorycraft as much as the next guy, but Dread has a point. Stupid stuff happens in this game that defies reason:
-Horse bump range extending out as far as a lance sometimes
-Getting 1-shot by crappy weapons when it should be impossible
-Take a throwing lance to the head and it does less damage than the follow-up throwing dagger
-Opponent attempts a kick while you are behind them, it still somehow hits you
-Fast polearm hits you without even rendering a single frame of the swing animation
-Guy jumps, falls through the ground, and stabs you from his subterranean sanctuary (Tanken does this so much devs should give him a unique miner's helmet, like that Burger King hat Kaok briefly got to wear before he was banned)
...etc

11/39 couch cav

It's just a hell of a lot of fun with a good +3 horse. You just crank up the tunes and do mainys all day.

You feel like a battle field assassin / hit and run machine. I just cruse around looking for dangerous players and trying to ambush/shut them down. With high manuver and 11-13 riding you can go from stand still to couch in like 5m so it makes it possible to launch some spastic ambushes. My favourite so far was waiting on the other side of a door and charging across a gate house and actually couching the dude that smashed the door, very amusing.

Gonna try that frank. Edit: here is the build

Strength: 12
Agility: 30
Hit points: 47
Converted: 4

Power Strike: 4
Shield: 8
Riding: 10
Weapon Master: 10
One Handed: 151

So do i even need polearm wpf for couching or what? I was gonna use a 1h as a side weapon when i get dehorsed

I think more pole wpf allows you to couch faster.
As in lower lance faster and less cool down between couches.

Yeah, pole wpf affects what Tojo just said above, and the 150/151 split should be just perfect to keep couching comfortable and still have good speed with your sidearm. (You could also dump all the wpf into pole and carry a staff)

Put 1 in riding and 2 in shield. 1 IF wont make that much of a difference but 2 more shield skill will. But why did you put points into 2h if you are going for 1h/pole?

Do you intend to do a couching/1h build or a lance/1h sidearm when dehorsed one?

Skeletzo you should make your build for level 36

18/24

I do this cav build with IF so you can earn max bonus from wpf. Also only 3 shield skill, because that's all you will need on horse.

153 1h / 156 pole wpf

No point in 2h wpf unless for the lulz. Having shield skill makes more sense with 1h/ pole.

mostly play on eu 1 right now but when there are too many archers or pikers ill just go inf
