Animers?
If I hung out with a bunch of 16 year olds I'd be annoyed too, Panos.

Funny, because 90% of my friends are ex military

And those are the guys where generally when they're 80 their only source of pride was being a gear in the war machine.
That explains things

ok you got me, I`m a gay communist who likes anime
Man thats actually pretty sad.
Anyway this thread reminds me of that guy who was mocked by the Japanese themselves for being an "otaku" , let's see if I can find it.
Eh I have no idea how to look it up but it's in this forum somewhere.
And those are the guys where generally when they're 80 their only source of pride was being a gear in the war machine. As opposed to what? Being a mindless 925 drone their whole lives? The military is good for experiences that can't be gotten from the civilian world, and leaves you with tons of memories. You also won't find similar camaraderie anywhere else.
What's worse; animers or bronies?
I searched these ideologies with anime added to it. What the fuck

No not really, I don`t know how the military works over at the States, but here in Greece, military is very respected and also you get plenty of benefits.
I, personally joined the military for 2 reasons.
University fee discount, and to save up a very good amount of money.
Also my current, good paying job is thanks to my military experience, trust me bro, in a country that has 33% unemployment rate, getting paid 1000~ euros per month at the age of 24, is one hell of a big achievement.
Wtf is this shit? I couldn't bear to watch further than half way, each to their own I guess but I dont like it :P
Pretty much works exactly the same here in the states.
Except they don't give you a discount on school tuition. They give you money for tuition, living expenses, rent etc...
But there are plenty of benefits, and it does get you jobs and special treatment.
Employers like someone who's heavily specialized in taking orders and kissing ass.

Team sports do a good job of that without guns and drill sergeants.
... No. Not in the least. COMPLETELY different.

I'm just speaking anecdotally. I myself went through part of the culture circa ~2007 but was administratively discharged.
If my life depended on my brother-in-arms to my left and to my right, and especially some of the ones I would've had to rely on, then I was not my brother's keeper. They wouldn't've wanted me on their flank either, a bad link that didn't want to be on the chain.
Classic cosplayer in denial :D
Obviously it's not going to be much fun if you're not suited for it, most people aren't.
Yeah, well, sounds like you couldn't hack it and blame the military for your own shortcomings. Administratively discharged, them not wanting you by their side -- you know it's a voluntary thing in the U.S., right? Obviously it's not going to be much fun if you're not suited for it, most people aren't.

I'm afraid a lot of people who are suited for service in the army are Panos alike, so definitely not the kind of people with whom I'd like to hang around.

Yeah, people should be less like me, and be more like you and leshma
You really think going to the army means fending for yourselve?
Oh and something else, if you want to believe that those who join the army, do it because they`re dumb and want to kill people, then guess again, because not all of us have mommy and daddy to look after us, and we have to fend for ourselves.
No wonder the future of Greece looks bleak.
Man those guys look sketchy as hell. If they were in charge of defending me during wartime, id give myself up to the enemy.
Mfw those things are both girls
also: Panos, you´ve been in the military? What was your job/place? Infantry, medic, driver, radioman, demolition...?
Under 40 and EX-military (with all limbs still in place) means that they weren't suited either.Or they just wanted to do something else with their life as well? The private sector had insane pay from 2001 to 2008ish, so that's one reason people EAS'd too.
Also, last I checked the military wasn't supposed to be "fun".?
You really think going to the army means fending for yourselve?Have you been in the military? If so, what did you do there? I'm guessing the answer to the former is a "no", seeing as how clueless you are about how things are done.
You go somewhere where you are told when to eat, when to slep, when to run, when to drop into the dirt, when to answer, what opinion to have, not to talk back, always follow instructions,......
this is not fending for yourselve. this is giving up yourselve and be taken care of.
Have you been in the military? If so, what did you do there? I'm guessing the answer to the former is a "no", seeing as how clueless you are about how things are done.I suppose it depends. Considering my country, it kinda depends where you want to be assigned to. If u are anti-air or artillery u dont have to do anything. You get to go to saunas and all in all it aint bad from what ive heard. But if get assigned to some serius infantrything, u do get huge amounts of shit. But honestly from what ive heard, you kinda get to pick where you serve and for some reason the crowded ones are the ones where u do get yelled at and crapped on the most. I quess most guys want the full experience.
What?
I don`t know how the military works in other countries, but here after the boot camp, which lasts 6 months, you are free to live wherever you want, inside or outside the base you`re stationed at.
So, your arguent is invalid.
Here, have the picture I took with my company at our last night together (end of bootcamp)(click to show/hide)
ah the memories
The guy in the white hoodie is the tallest in that pic. You're bad at visual proportioning.

Holy fucking mother of cringe. lol
On the topic of animes: You'd be surprised how good stories a lot of them have, much better than most of the shit they put in movies nowadays.
99% is pure bullshit.
And then there is Death Note.

Discipline is it's own form of strength. The person you are fighting is yourself. Your "own mind" is sometimes quite biased and likely to follow the path of least resistance. One is not always right, and gut feelings are not always to be trusted. Having some mouthy dipshit threaten a superior officer (to his face, obviously most grunts loathe officers, but there's such a thing as decorum) he's lucky all he had to do was carry a tree trunk. Sounds pretty hilarious to me.Actually he offered him a 1v1 with his knife in his hand when he found his superior alone during a nightwatch.
one had to carry treetrunks instead of a weapon because he threatened an ashole superior.OMG! You should totally be allowed to threaten (wtf? most useless thing ever) superiors without any consequence! What the fuck, maaaaan!
one had to be brought back to camp by the MP because he didn't accept that someone cancelled his offdays.WHAT? The dude couldn't have have his off days when he wanted? THE INJUSTICE!!!!!!!!
Don't get me wrong. I am not saying the punishments were wrong. They were logic and necessary. That's just a defense mechanism. "Uhhhhhhh.... I couldn't handle discipline because I have, like...... free will, and stuff."
I am just saying that the army is not the right place for people with a strong freewill.
And I prefere people that find their own way and own rules instead of participating in a system of hirachy and order.

The point of those mistreatments is to destroy individualities, strengthening both obedience and group dynamic. It's necessary when coordination is more important than efficiency, but it's clearly not for everybody, and doesn't leave people unscathed. Actual training as in what you have to do and what you have to know, is secondary to that.
What were we talking about again ? Ah yes, I read Death Note and loved it.
man the fuck up

More like: it's not for spoiled brats who throw a fit when things don't go their way.
but war is won by being a hippie bender, Christo
The point of these mistreatments, is to force you to man the fuck up, because war aint Call of Duty.
I like how we deal in absolutes. Either we can be manly rambo mother fuckers, or anime loving hipster nerd hippies, uguuu chan :3
AA and artillery is completely different from infantry everywhere, not comparable at all.Ofcourse its not comparable. But they all count as militaryservice none the less. But when u get to choose you either go to AA and artillery for totally slacking off or infantry for not really slacking.

What people like you, leshma, falka and every other hippie prick out there fail to see, is that soldiers have a bigger free will than you. Because soldiers, know that when to war, chances are against them, yet they don`t back down.
Wut?
Anyway, probably you're better material for a soldier than me, as you seem to have aggression in yourself which I lack and which, I suppose, is needed for a soldier. Also, you seem to like Big Words and this martial/soldiers spirit: "I trust them with my life", "brothers from different mothers", stuff like that. On the other hand I would not break someone's nose just because he came on my face, especially not at university.
Yeah, that's a cool story, almost like the ones described in "The lords of discipline", "Semper fidelis", "08/15" or "Full metal jacket"... Though your story lacks spice, some drama I have to say.

Actual training as in what you have to do and what you have to know, is secondary to that.Well, yes and no. The point of those "mistreatments", as you call them, is to just make you obey orders without hesitating. The military has plenty of roles, and therefore needs plenty of personnel, where "strong individuals" are necessary. Going through shit together also builds team spirit.
What were we talking about again ? Ah yes, I read Death Note and loved it.
I almost belevied you about the army Panos.
The "bad sergeant story" was a bit too much, but i have to admit it was a nice try

excuse me but there's only one japanese cartoon
btw don't get angered with panos, this is one of the few time he's right: people that wears costumes of cartoon's chars are massive retards.
or could we say he's always right?
So good you have to simplify them to make Inception :D
Spurdo made me watch this... And I kinda liked dis anime movie.
if I wanted to sound like a douchebag, I`d type something like this
"I was a commando trained to kill, a mortar specialist, I know how to make pipe bombs with socks and condoms, shot with more than 30 weapons, took place in 5 NATO excersices and I had a one month training with Murrican OOOOOORAH MARINES"
Death Note and Paprika were mentioned, and I know plenty of people who don't like anime and liked them. They are good pieces of media to consume. Anyway, back to the topic of "this is what animers are like"

wakey wakey boys reality calls
Greece has no friends around. We have the Turks who hate us, the Albanians and the Monkeydonians who despise us and the Bulgarians who envy us.
We are surrounded by people who want pieces of Greece for themselves.

Lol I know what video you are talking about, two japanese guys interviewing and making fun of some American guy living in Japan who thought he was some kind of anime master with pillows that had anime girls on ( I think it was pillows, or something just as lame as that ), when in reality he was just a fat lonely virgin.
