To encourage teamplay and to avoid mindless running and splitting at the begining, death penalty should be implemented. Every game should be a tactical, survival battle rather than running without paying attention. This is killing the mod.
The penalty that i am thinking is higher repair bills. Dead players pay %10 upkeep while the undead pay %5.
-
Are you and Harunhaya actually serious about this ?
-
Death players... Undead... huh?
Death is already a large penalty by wasting your time. Should be able to do something other than alt-tab when you die.
-

Yes.
-
It would just make people go for easy targets, and trying to stay alive by every way.

Of all the stupid things I heard...
-
yay! lets all camp in the opposite corners of the map hoping not to get hit by arrows

Or instead let's blindly charge to 6 archers with 2handed weapons hoping to be able to reach even one of them.
Huuuaaaa too much fun too much fun !

At least there is no stalemate in doing this.

Unfortunately staying in formation was never a requirement in the game, only in native clan battles where competitive gameplay exists.
Too many people are in favor of rushing to the detriment of teamplay. The devs seem to agree, and actually reward that kind of gameplay, so this wont happen.

sorry but i can't support this, getting instant headshot off an arbalest through a crowd of players at the start of the round
then having to pay more because it instantly killed you, nope.
got to love them random headshots.

By your definition. A lot of people came into the m&b fold to roleplay medieval battles, that includes formations.
Suppose you play a game where you chose a class, then as the map is done loading your thrown into the thick of a melee clash between two armies, where your survival depends on sticking to your side. You watch with anticipation as the battle progresses, and when you face an enemy you have to give it everything you got, for the good of the shieldwall, and the next move means victory or death,...
I'd find such a recreation to be at least exciting and compelling. Unfortunately you people don't let this be that kind of game with such a self-centered gameplay style, and the franchise becomes stagnant.

Unfortunately you people keep on insisting not playing a videogame is more fun than playing it, hence why every round is stagnant. I'm being intolerant towards your LARP fetishes, but the community seems to agree with me here. As otherwise you wouldn't be here complaining about people ruining your reenactment.

I haven't seen any tactical play in the servers through the years(indeed, staying in formation and moving together is also gameplay accept it or not). Largely the situation we have now originates in developer cathering to a loud minority of people here, rather than solid game design. You especially can't sweep years of active lobbying under the rug.

If we pretend for a second that whatever you are claiming here is true, what would be the point of continuing to argue over it, when you are not going to be listened ?

No need to pretend, the threads are all here. And people sometimes find themselves measuring the meaning of their actions and realize what they've done.

Actually repair costs are not really fair as penalty, becouse new players (we have at least one new player!) usually do have problems with getting money. So game would get even worse for new players.
Death leeching is punishabel. Still its the kind of leeching hardest to recognice. I have no solution for this. Best leave it as it is.
EDIT: Maybe give penalty by losing Multi if you died in first 30 seconds of round three times in a row...
-
Agreed, but only if the player also has to hit PAGE-UP/PAGE-DOWN all battle to simulate breathing.
-
What you guys dont understand is some rounds you die some rounds you are alive in the end, if this would happen in %50 rate, then the upkeep will be exactly the same %7,5 average. But dying a lot will cost a little more money. This will encourage not to die and stay in formation.
For low levels and beginners this could be harsh, that's right. Gen1 until level 25 char doesnt even pay upkeep. Something like that can be implemented.
You guys who are opposed to this are TEENAGERS, i am sorry.

Yeah, that's right. People wouldn't help you anymore, they'd just watch for their own.

Could work.

Well it does kinda suck. It would work well like half of the time and during the other half it would be complete bullshit. The autobalance likes to drink a lot and sometimes it really balances in a way that your team has a very hard time countering the pile of ranged or cav for an entire map. Whats even worse is if lady luck balances you on the looser team multiple maps in a row.
And wouldnt this encourage delaying. I mean if I look at the players alive in battle and clearly see that my teams getting booted like hell im gonna die. Il just hide behind a house or something till the round ends. If I was your typical delayer that is.
How would this keep anyone in formation? If getting x5 as in earning xp and gold 5 times faster then average isnt motivational enough, i dunno what is. Personally im strongly against this. Im a player with very agressive playstyle and I think this really limits me. My suicidecharges work like 70% of time and im always more into making sure my team wins. Like shieldbashing the inf away to rush the archers. I dont generally care if I die as long as we get the win. It would suck if I suddenly had to pay for it.
And ofcourse Eren wants to force everyone to stay in information. The dude plays heavy board shield hoplite. A class that mainly relies on support. You suggested this for personal gain didnt u?
-
Nay, I might die in a rediculous way but it's my way of play and its the way I get the most fun out of this game. I have never been a teamplayer, following the general flow of the battle is just boring as fuck to me, id rather play siege then.
Wy would you punish someone's style of gameplay.
Punish someone is a rediculous method, rather encourage the teamwork by groupforming-buffs.

No need to pretend, the threads are all here.
Which ones ? There's this and the one with Harunhaya suggesting that flags are bad and we should spend more time looking at each other instead of playing, which was arguably even worse than this. There's no consensus when it comes to people commenting either as you are pretty much the only person commenting in favor.
If you want people to play the way you want them to play, you have to convince them, not force them into it. Besides it's not like a penalty for dying would change behaviors. If players are discouraged to have fun, they'll either ignore the penalty and have fun anyway, or go play something else, preferably something fun.
The only things this change would encourage are camping, delaying, fleeing, hiding and ranged, things that virtually nobody likes.

Seems only melee players should have to use teamwork & tactics. How about ranged can't compete in melee range like melee can't compete against ranged at range gameplay? Blasphemy. No you have to have great all round ability while melee can use a shield to block in some directions against projectiles. A ranged player in melee range has better defence against melee with just manual blocks and they still have very good melee weapons and decent armour. Sure you have your bad ranged players that can't compete at all in melee, but a good melee player with a ranged/melee hybrid is very OP atm
About the OP's idea..I don't think it would result in the sort of gameplay it would be implemented to encourage. I think people would play more selfishly, wheras now everyone has a clear incentive to win the rounds regardless of what they entails doing. Staying alive doesn't necessarily help your odds of winning, it depends on the circumstances. We would probably get a bunch of guys hiding while everyone else goes and tries to play. The ones that actively play and try to win would probably lose out while some selfish guys hang around somewhere because they don't want to get higher upkeep
