Title: People who have taught/inspired you.
Post by: Xeen on July 24, 2012, 04:01:26 pm
It sounded like it would be interesting and fun to hear some stories from others about the people that made them the players they are.

Cheapshot:Cheapshot was a big reason that I stuck it out for 4 gens as a pure thrower when I first started.  He was one of the first decent throwers that I had seen and his passion for the class definitely enhanced my own.  His hilarious and brilliant comic series, often centered on throwers, always made me proud and encouraged to play the class.

WaltF4:In my circle of real life friends, we always joke about how Waltf4 has a PHD in Mount and Blade.  He was the reason that I stopped throwing and went to pike.  My throwing style was always very up-close and personal, skirting melee range as best I could as often as I could.  One day I saw WaltF4 long-spearing and realized that he was doing the same thing I was with 100% accuracy and infinite ammo.  I picked up the pike(even though he swore pike was garbage) and emulated what I had seen to great effect.  I ended up piking for probably 12 generations or so with a few charger gens mixed in, loving the hell out of 11 of them.

Rhaelys:My early memories of Rhaelys consist mainly of him calling me a noob when I pestered him with wardarts.  I now find it funny that last night he jokingly told me IM A NO-SKILL SOMETHING OR OTHER THAT CANT GET A KILL WITHOUT A HORSEBUMP!!  Anyways, I credit Rhaelys considerably with showing me how to melee effectively.  At the time that I stopped my endless pike generations, I was very average at multi-directional melee.  I could block, but I was just clueless when it came to offense.  I had already grown fond of the great long bardiche as a supportive weapon to a pike-crew, but found it to be lacking when it came to actually hitting unpressured, aware targets.  I started to watch Rhaelys and his now infamous "blockleft" playstyle.  I saw how he would stare people down with long holds and trick people into thinking he'd release with spins and sudden jerks, completely controlling the fight.  It was soon after those lessons that I really felt for the first time like I was a decent melee.

Goretooth and Tydeus:These guys taught me the value of putting a crew together and going after the important(and challenging) targets.  It is not only an effective way to play, it is how I enjoy the game the most.

Cheapshot still playing?

For me it was some native guys, I didn't learn much in crpg until now.

Some guys of a native clan names "sF", sadly they barely play anymore and sF went dead a few months ago.

In cRPG maybe QUantum and Phase.

Ragni_Bross in the young times of cRPG.
He always integrated me and showed me some stuff as 2her, also he has an enjoyable nature and he's quite funny as well.
He was definitely my idol back in the time  :)
Also I had lots of fun with Gurneh ofc, when he had his disgusting iron staff and the Khergit bow, he was headshottin me 24/7.
Still one of my best friend in this game ))

In Native/MM ifrit taught me the ways of a melee.... Most people probably don't know him though..

In cRPG I actually decided to switch from crap 1h shield to polearm because Gomer lended me some cash for a german poleaxe...

He's actually a pretty nice guy off of forums.

Huey let me be a cavelier back when I was a gen1 noob with one athletics at lv 20-something.
He taught me how to fight and not make a rofl bad build.  He also introduced me to the unique brand of variously subtle trolling that pervades the crpg culture.  'ppreciate it!

i inspire myself. nobody slaps people with the pike quite like myself.

i used to think dainsters and horrible were topshelf. dainsters is around no more, and horrible is stll topshelf. good teammate as well. best polearmers around.  but since that turn nerf, no point in any shorter polearms then the longspear

oh yeah, dreadnok is the best sword and board dude, and ulfson is still the best 2hander.   ulfson makes a good teammate, and dreadnok is a solo artist.

quitefrankly, SoW is probably the best of the best in NA.

Have to say Gnjus here. And some Australian player I unfortunately don't remember the name. Something with Sky...

Gnjus because he was basicly the first player I had any "contact" to when I started cRPG. I have to mention that I've never played SP or Native. Bought on Steam-Sale in 2011 and went straight cRPG. Didnt know anyone on the server but came to "know" Gnjus because we had little Xbow-fights on the server. Hunting each other down for the fun. I died more often than him... ofc... ;)

And that Aussie because he played archer with all his heart although having like 250 ping on EU1 all the time. Besides that he was just a really nice and funny guy I always enjoyed to play and fool around with...

GTX, yeah. I gotta say all those duels against him were very useful. Learnt some tricks for him, and basically how to fight, and take advantage of being a two-hander.

Vagamir, was very friendly with me and cared to share "instructive" duels as well.

Rhuell back when i decided to stop being a bundle of sticks(archer) and started to learn melee, i was watching him fight multiple targets all the time and i decided i would try to become as good as him.

Props to ManOfWar and Balbaroth also for pushing me to get better just by seeing them own the servers

Staying on a hill or highest tower, surrounded by clanmates who were guarding him, with his lvl 46 build and 300 archery wpf. Epic role model

The amount of "Who or what is your favorite or least favorite person/weapon/whatever ?" threads combined with that "Most overused/underused OP/UP" crap strongly suggest that this game is in a desperate need of a full database wipe.

Dan taught me short 1h weapons are fun to use, and Neo_qc taught me tincan steel pick. They didn't really teach me, but did inspire me to switch from longer weapons to shorter ones (at first only used the axe).

A lot of my clanmates like Saul and Cyclopsided who really helped me get better in duel. Saul helped me learn footwork.

Tydeus for hammering into me how to get around castors by killing me every time with them.

The old tincans from before the armor soak change like KinG_ChriS and Dexxtaa for inspiring me to try out the steel pick.

Any good 1h I see, recently, Calmir, Korrupted, and a few others that I haven't noticed before.

He's one of those few that don't rely on long range hits, and is actually much much more dangerous if you go close. Always fun to watch him fight.  8-)

I agree, he's one of the reasons I chose to become a 2hander, great player and also very humble which to me atleast is a very important and respectable feature. Learned lots from watching him fight and also from getting my ass kicked by him on EU_3  :D

Huh... Hard one for me.. Too many nice ppl were near me when I started playing this mod with bandits...

Dado as my bro, was always around.
El Supreme(he is almost adopted by my family) as my endless money source.
Prpavi with his epic laugh and constant (shit) talking
Kriza as one of nicest persons
beer as... yeah.. as...

2nd phase of game, Wolves part:

Franky as weed addict, endless number of hours spent on nothing with him
Teutensuppe as rational guy
Kinngrimm as "brb i'll grab another coffee"

One special guy, my  inspiration and reason why i still play this mod, my black bro uJuKi (no, we aren't gay)
Many more ofc..
Like Vagabond, Herezy, Memphistoles, Jewiz aka Reyiz, Tepes, Sandro,Asca, Grumbs, Lizard man, SuperFool, SuperBeast, Have At Thee, Torben, Elmuri_crocodile...
All of these guys just make my day much better when i see em on eu1 haha
Cant remeber all of em but there is lot more rly nice persons in this community.

EDIT:
Guy below me is also cool. He made me practice like 2 days on eu3 vs war spears spammers

My first hours of crpg, lost on the battlefield as a 1h shielder back in november 2010. On the maps Ruins i saw Lady_Gaga just crash in a bunch of infantry on a plated charger....

From that day i became cav for the next 12 generations

If they can fix it, sure. I saw Zotte do something I've never done before and I want to know the depths of all classes so I really wanted to become good at it :P

One of the reasons I have many alts to be honest. If you know the strengths, weaknesses and tricks of all classes you'll understand the battlefield way better and therefore perform better yourself.

RS.

These guys picked me up when I was still running around with a steel pick and a norman shield and showed me what a fun community can look like when you have a bunch of skilled players who don't take themselves all too serious and are great to hang out with.

Dexxtaa was one of the guys I looked up to most for his nonchalant way of slaughtering enemies by the drove while making witty comments in TS and Socrates, Rhuell and the rest of the guys were just great to chill with. I would probably not have stuck around without them.

I got my ass handed to me plenty by Ryden (when we was good  :P ), Balbaroth and Saul (when they were playing) and still do by San and Cyranule in melee - but I can compensate with my horsey and I'm thankful for every lesson in humility I get.

In the meantime I can hold my own against most players and can even teach others a move or two - I would love for more people who are new to the community to have a similar rewarding experience as I had and still have.

A honest thank you to all who were a part of it.

Guys like Robert Namo, Bear IRL, and t1337dude inspired me to improve back when I was regularly playing on the Community servers (back when community servers where the only NA servers).

sWalker inspired my archer gen. That didn't go over so well, but it was worth a shot, heh.

I saw Tydeus rocking the Bec so I got ahold of a +3 Bec after my first retirement and rolled with that for a gen.

I remember back when I had a lot of IRL friends who used to play cRPG. Even back before San joined Chaos we would all be overjoyed to be on the San team. Even though a lot of my friends quit cRPG back in November they still know San as "That one awesome shield dude."

That's all that comes to mind immediately :)

Tenne and Stulle when I first arrived in the mod and tried and failed at Archery.

Shanks when I attempted to spin around with a 2hander.

And now that im a horribly inaccurate and strangley lucky thrower, I guess I pretty much look up to any other thrower that hits whatever he aims at.

If i had to say anyone i guess i would say Danzu. Most of you probabbly dont remember him he used to play 9 or 10 months ago or something like that. He was the only actual 1h cav on NA at the time, all cav players were lancer cav and no one thought 1h cav could be a viable build. That was also around the time i had started playing, my main was 2h and my alt was lancer cav i kept under 25 to avoid repairs. I soon found myself playing my cav alt more than my 2h main so i wanted to change my main to cav. But i dindt like the fact that i wasnt one shotting people with a lance at 25 and i dindt think i would if i was 30 either, althogh it was cause i didnt know how important speed was, if i was riding a courser not a charger id be doing alot more damage. I knew from single player that 1h cav does more damage than lancer cav but that it was also alot harder and wasnt sure i could do it online against human opponents who are for the most part more intelligent than the warband AI.

But then i saw danzu and although he was riding a cataphract and wearing heavy armor he was a 1h cav and he was able to do pretty well as a 1h cav player, not great but pretty well. Seeing him play kind of gave me not only the idea to switch to 1h cav but also that it was completly doable if you were good enough and worked at it enough. So i went 1h cav, first longsword + sheild and once i was good enought to consistently hit with the longsword i moved up to the morning star and after awhile i got hitting with that down too. After not too long i started doing very well as 1h cav, scoring 30+ kills in many games. It was easier to get so many kills at the time as 1h cav because due ot the fact that there were no other real1h cav players and handt been for atleast a long time people did not know how to defend against it. They acted as if i were a lancer cav player when it came to defending themselves.

Sheilders would put up their sheilds allowing for an easy bumpslash kill, others would try to run to the left or right which can work against lancers due to their lack of range of motion, but for a 1h i could easily swing out to the left or right and kill them. And with the power of the build i was one shotting even tin cans. So after i had been doing so well with the build for awhile topping score charts other players started to take notice and they too saw that 1h cav was actually a viable build and quite a bit of peole started atleast trying out the build if not switching to it completly. Sure 1h cav isnt as popular as lancer, but now at-least there is actually a 1h cav population on NA . And im sure diggles will say something about 1h cav, but ive seen him many many times since i started playing as we both play quite a bit, and it wasnt until 2 months ago that i ever saw him on a horse playing 1h cav (he always plays as a sheilder), so no diggles you did not inspire me to be 1h cav.

My bro TommyHu got me into c-rpg, we both had been playing warband since the beta's (and the orig. m&b before that), but I never got into c-rpg.  I was pretty much done playing warband and he had been playing c-rpg for at least 6 months before I finally got into it.  He was playing it then, like I'm playing it now, pretty much most days I can get on my computer, I'm playing c-rpg.

Otherwise, keeping on topic:

When I was a shielder-archer with weaboo gear, Cooties was the first player I recognized to be good and made me realize that shield is not necessary.

Shanks, awesome aussie, who greatly lead SoA last summer, when it wasn't a fun clan (though it was fun to have trainings and clan battles many times a week)  .Negative side is that he made me use long maul

Also there are lots of great guys without who I wouldn't keep playing this. Guards, Kastu, Hammertime, Idzo, Latvian, PEPE etc etc.
Unfortunately some of them are gone. RIP in pieces Umbra and Panos

Don't forget Ulfhedhinn, Weren.

Player who inspired me the most was probably Urist. I remember when he was running around with vanilla greatsword and fucking shit up on some village map, sporting vaegir warmask and a heraldic mail with some orange banner. Probably the reason I went 2h to begin with, don't really remember why I stuck with the class.

I'd have to say Weren for Staffmaster inspiring Ninja, one of the first who did very well, with nothing. Shinobi, who invented the Ninja style. Chimp for showing everyone that build is nothing and skill is everything. (First archer that could pwn everyone in melee) Others I respect are Oberyn, although he plays cav. Really wish he would make himself a challenge build in stead of raping everyone from horseback..

That goes for most of you 2h heroes too.. Nerf yourselves for the extra challenge. :)

Oh yes, Ulf, totally forgot him. Did some good sneak missions with him on battle servers. I rarely saw Urist online when I was on, but I fought with him few times too. Oh and Lezard! Good times, good times!

Miley, for being the first player to repeatedly thrash me when I first started, inspiring me to want to get better.

A bunch of the old chaos guys for being the first people I started working as a group with, which really showed me how fun teamwork can be in this game.

Dexxtaa and Sauce for inspiring me to try the 2D polearms and longspear.

Then eventually Xeen for inspiring me to go from a longspearman to a Pikeman.

Torben, Leed, Miralay and Lalien for cav style. I learned a lot from Torben and Miralay verbally. I spectated Leed when he was still playing and always tried to figure out his moves. I mentioned Lalien because I always like to play with that son of a bitch and I like the style.

Biggest inspiration as a polearmer must be Tor. Same kind of axe as I had and also taught me trick or two in duel server :).
(click to show/hide)

Later on I was influenced by my 2h clanmates Wayyyne and Kato. Those two have somewhat similiar style with held attacks and feints. Dueling with them made me learn to play more calmly and plan my moves better (because lolfeintspam doesn't really work u nabs).

Definitely Balbaroth.

I used to wear plate and use a warhammer and broad axe.   But because of balb I wear what I wear today.  He taught me how to be an effective shielder with an inexpensive build.

I played M&B singleplayer for about a year and then bought warband through steam and started to play crpg right away.

My first idol was Polepoop.
He was playing as a lancer and consistently topped the scoreboard owning everyone. On horseback and on foot.

So I tried to be just like him.
I think I got the horse part but I'm still struggling on foot so don't get cocky if you beat me on the ground

Nobody really taught me, just getting wrecked over and over in the beginning until I got decent really, although I did do a lot of learning from the great players I'd see. I just try to watch the people who topped the scoreboard and see what I did wrong when I'd die. Although my bud Arty helped me a bit with chambering and such, but haven't tried to really perfect it, too lazy.

Who inspired me? Well Goretooth instilled fear in me back before the changing of Black Armor when he still used that Bec. I wouldn't get near him without 5+ teammates, and even then the risk of death was high.

EDIT: Also, my gen and a half of 1h, that was purely inspired by San, his wrecking crew abilities with that Steel Pick is what inspired me to use it. And I'd just try to play like him. I'll never forget the one time we fought each other one on one on battle and I actually emerged victorious, I know it was probably a lot of factors not in his favor that caused it, because 9 times out of 10 he wrecks me, but still. Was a glorious moment. ^-^

Mortymor was the first crossbowman I saw that stuck out and actually made a difference on the battle field and would eventually make me become a dedicated crossbowman.

Casimir and Tommy were the first guys on a server that looked invincible to me when I first started playing. I didnt know there were NA servers at the time but im glad I got to play with the Templars and some of the better EU players.

Uumdi - A kindred spirit in the art of two directional weapons/Support play. (Id cross my Swiss with your Bill anyday, if you know what I mean.)

Canary - The first truly unselfish team playing polearm player I played with. You were like uumdi to me before I knew uumdi. Also one of the best, most level-headed leaders a clan mate could ever ask for. I don't think I would have gotten half as into this game as I have were it not for you, man.

When i discovered cRPG, i decided to roll an archer.
Of course, for archery, that first build was standard, and good.

Then, i couldn't help noticing Birdman. At first, i was amazed. Dealing that much damage, being that fast, that accurate, it was a legend. Myself, never got more than 5 PD, so i definitely had the speed and the accuracy. But when retiring, you used to "keep" a % of your wpf over, increasing every generation, so i was just "frustratedly stupid", and thought it was just a high level player, high gen.
Then, i actually managed to play on par with him, thanks to how easy it was at that time to do headshots, and the few amount of cav and more STR builds tend to make it easy to flee.
After having... caught, never mastered... archery, i was happy with myself.

Then, i couldn't help noticing Chimp. He could beat me in archer duels. He always owned me in melee. It was amazing. Since then, my main has always been (except for one 2h gen) an archer/hybrid with some 1h or 2h wpf.

As for my alts, nothing particular. Craftybadger for the pikewoman (Leyla), Thomek-Lisa-Ninjas for the 2h/Thrower (Kurogane). And playing melee alts helps for playing my main, since i follow our Guard's code : Always give a good fight. Only run away if it can make you win the round, else "surrender" the bow, take out the melee weapon, and fight, honorably.

Some awesome players never taught me, nor inspired me, since i didn't like horses or was never a pro at blocking (was poor, t'was hard to make gold :( ), but i still was happy to see them in my team : TomMyY, Wookimonsta (ex-Guard), Bane, Moribund, Phazh (when he was a great 1h/shield cav. Nowadays, he's limited by his horse, and plays more strategically, so not much of an opponent), etc...

Thank you all idols. Thank you all practice targets. Thank you all players.

i used to think dainsters and horrible were topshelf. dainsters is around no more, and horrible is stll topshelf. good teammate as well. best polearmers around.  but since that turn nerf, no point in any shorter polearms then the longspear

oh yeah, dreadnok is the best sword and board dude, and ulfson is still the best 2hander.   ulfson makes a good teammate, and dreadnok is a solo artist.

quitefrankly, SoW is probably the best of the best in NA.

im so happy to be mentioned. slimpy is the best pikeman by far. on a serious note memento mori and shinnock. by going against them i can combat 2h better. for shielders its def dl kryser. he wasnt all about kills but being a great teammate and so much utility for being just a shielder. one of the first players that always struck fear into me was nosboh when we all played on the ats servers.

Bobthehero, he wrote a swashbuckling guide ages ago, like end 2010 or early 2011. I read that, and it seemed kinda cool, but also hard. Then finally the idea of being a swashbuckler came back to me in september 2011, but then Ujin convinced me to just get a shield. It was the only generation I didn't finish cause I couldn't bear it any longer. Did a round of polearm and 2h and finally about half a year later I did my first gen of 1h without shield. Enjoyed it a lot, but really felt like going back to polearm, my most succesfull class, then felt like playing 2h, then kinda hated 2h and felt like being a swashbuckler again.

Now I made up my mind and I'll be swashbuckler for the rest of my cRPG days. I guess Bob's guide sparked this journey 1,5 year ago.

These people are those who taught and inspired me or just pushed me to improve after a few humiliating duels back when I still cared.
In alphabetical order:

Babelfish/Lisa - For teaching me how a ninja is meant to duel.
Bjord - For his duelling talents and battlefield skills.
Chimp - For his excellent duelling skills. I duelled him a lot.
Paul - For his insane blocking, which I could not get past.
Phyrex - For being a better Bjord and a nicer person. ;)
Thomek - For inspiring me to choose the ninja style and for teaching me his tricks and for the awesome duels I've had with him. He along with Lisa have shaped me the most.
Weren - For teaching me the importance of personal style when playing. You gotta look good when fighting. Otherwise you might aswell not fight.
Winterfell - For his time in the ninja clan and being a great sparring partner.

There are many others, but I think these deserve a special mention. The fast duels with all the ninjas are the ones that has shaped my playstyle the most always pushing me to become faster and faster.
However, my family and friends deserve most of the credit, even in cRPG.

You were a Ninja. Taking the shitstorm was part of it.. Don't run away from your masochistic identity! Now you are back to being a Ninja by almost every measure, except you are a swashbuckler. A self-nerfer. The soul is back, the method is halfway.

Yeah, must add Khorin there. For being there, when there were no others. Loyal people are extremely rare in this world. I could go to a real battle with Khorin. Respect.

Which naturally makes me want to spank winterfell in the nuts for being such a traitor! :D

Fortinbras --> Spend allot of time teaching me how to block when I was a newb in the duel server.  He was one of the best 1 hander blockers I ever saw.  Always wanted to thank him but he sort of disappeared.  Thanks Bro.

Papa Smurf -->  Showed me how to fight against more then 1 guy.

Crymore -->  Showed me what a really skilled player could do, made me want to try harder.

Redsarrow -->  Really helped me hone in my blocking, one of the best duelers in this game.

SaulCanner -->  Got me to try 1 hander and no shield again, the hardest and funnest type of melee in my opinion.  Also showed me how good a person could be with chambering.

First and the most stunning, coming to EU3 as a peasant:

Uthred or how he later named himself Uthred III of Bebanburg.

Untouchable, skilled, overgeared, rich ingame. I quickly decided to follow...and thats how 3 months of no life grind started up to lvl 45.

He was the fuse to a crazy excess.

The first Fallen oldschoolers, namly Beauchamp (great person, good leader), King Bread, RandomDude, Everkistus (cheers, great duels we had)....and later Ramses for being a good commander in battle.

Fallen_Giant and Fallen_Warlord.

Siiem gets a special mentioning.
El_supreme and Dado too.
Bulldog aka Morningstar crush STR build.
Legio_Kendo, another dedicated morningstar.

First days HRE namly Rogue, krampe, Wendy , Nubert, Quirian, Lothar, Ego.
A time where HRE consisted of less then 10 ppl. Totally dedicated theme for gear, funniest and also extremest days of playing. Great bunch.

Oberyn, (Tenne (in his melee days)), Tommy, Nebun, chimp, Birdman, Unreal, DaveUKR, Gnjus and maybe some more....for playing a different class then me (2h), and being outstanding, even nearly 2 years ago.

Finally the ppl. that motivated me to get better with their crazy duelling skill:

Urist / Paul (untouchable)
Bjord
Khorin
BlueberryMuffin
Vargas
Burrick
Cpt.Georges

Thats the ppl. that come to my mind easily.

crymoar: For obvious reasons if you remember crymoar at all (old cRPGers)
Carebear_HarmlessPeasant: For making me say, "I'm going to get that good." Made me get a Longsword and made me try various types of playing styles
BeatrixKiddo: In old cRPG, he made me get his armor, including my Flamberge, Bar Mace, and Two Handed Sword (I didn't get Tears like Beatrix had because it was too expensive)
Zisa: After old cRPG was over (new experience system) and everyone got a respec and archery was worthless, I decided to go two-hander, and I made my character a Zisa (old cRPG Zisa outfit and weapons) clone.
srellA: Taught me how to Castor and to hold attacks, arso got me into cRPG and told me to go archer when I first started, which I did
Canary: I think Canary made me get a Poleaxe
nK_Coldhart: I copied his/her horse archer one time on my HA that I've respecced so many times.
And a secret one I shall not mention... and I might have forgotten someone.

im so happy to be mentioned. slimpy is the best pikeman by far. on a serious note memento mori and shinnock. by going against them i can combat 2h better. for shielders its def dl kryser. he wasnt all about kills but being a great teammate and so much utility for being just a shielder. one of the first players that always struck fear into me was nosboh when we all played on the ats servers.

This reminds me! Dread helped me quite a bit when I first started playing shielder, gave me some sound advice and playing with him and his clan really helped me get the basics of 1h down.

I started on EU, because back when you start ping doesn't really matter and you can't block anyway.  Anyway, I was running around being all peasanty when I see SoA Micah holding her own wearing peasant clothing (used a bow and poleaxe back then, only managed to play old cRPG for a grand total of two days :().  That inspired me to start off as a dickless archer, and occasionally I return to that playstyle.  More importantly, I always loved the concept of some peasant kicking everyone's asses so that inspired me to constantly make agility or low armor builds, a trend which I still haven't quite bucked to this day.

Then when I started learning how to play, I started noticing how important ping was so I hopped off of EU.  I'll always miss The_Finn.  There, I saw RS running around doing well, a lot of the times in cheap clothing and or cheap weapons so that inspired me to learn how to melee better to hopefully get noticed by those guys.  Never happened, but eventually I joined BRD using the excuse they were looking for archers.

BRD was one of the clans I was really interested in because I saw them once plant a bunch of dummies on the ground and hide in them wielding torches, so quite clearly that was a group of people I wanted to play with.  Even when I wasn't good, I knew I still didn't feel like being a tryhard at this game so this pointless teamwork type playstyle appealed to me.  Little did I know, they were also regulars on the duel server, so I became one as well.  My big inspirations then became Edmond, Kalam, and Cyranule.  Eddie broke down my playstyle which lead me to start on my path of improvement, Kalam was always a solid duelist and until he joined the army we were always regulars in duel.  And of course, Cyranule.  I don't feel I need to waste time describing him since a bunch of people already mentioned Cyranule.

But enough clan jerking, two of the most important people in the world are Partyboy and POOPHAMMER.  They mastered this game.  They are peerless.  I'm pretty sure the only reason Partyboy stopped playing is because of how amazing he was.  The developers constantly made nerfs to his playstyles, the admins constantly banned him for it, he was quite clearly overpowered.  I mean, half the time he roleplays being a pacifist with his torch.  Sometimes he does it on a horse, and then his horse kills people and he'd apologize because he claims his horse had gone berserk.  I'll always miss Partyboy.  Is POOPHAMMER still around?  I don't know, I don't really play siege.  I hope he is.  He's one of the few people I respect in this game.

Wiegraf gets a special nomination because he was always a decent player, but more importantly played like a weirdo.  He was a big reason in why I joined BRD in the first place.  My first impression of Wiegraf was some idiot digging holes in the ground by constantly stabbing down with the goedendag, and then the legendary HarmlessPeasant stood up to him ready to fight.  Wiegraf casually looks up, and then thrashes HarmlessPeasant to the ground.  It was awesome.  Not to mention he started the Axe Gang.  My god it's hilarious seeing 20 axes fly through the air hitting absolutely nothing.

CHINASERF.  Enough said.

Always really liked watching and fighting Bigsandwich and Hannibal.  Such naturals at the game.

Epoch for his 6/33 spear build.

Saulcanner, because of all the reasons people already say about him but also because he's kind enough to never refuse a duel with you.  It's hard to learn off of someone if they're constantly snubbing you; I never see Saul dismissing a fight.  So whenever I'm in duel, while I still seek out people I feel are better than me, if someone wants to duel me I don't refuse them either.  If I can help someone get even a little bit better, I dunno?  I feel good I guess?

These days I'm a cav melee build and while there are cav better than him, my favorite horseman will always be TommyHu.  Wears light armor, but it's his style that impresses me most.  While most cav do efficient things like only attacking from behind, I always see Tommy attempt the weirdest horse maneuvers and succeeding at them.  Like using his horse to jump on top of ruins, carefully balance atop the wall where normally you only see archers with high athletics even try to scale, and slowly sneak up on the archer on the window not looking at him, still on his horse mind you, and then stab him in the arse.  TommyHu's amazing.

Special nomination would be RUFFIESROHYPNOL was and is better, but RUFFIES always seemed like such a cool guy.

Memento_Mori taught me to melee. It was tough at first, but I started to learn his playstyle, then completely abandon it and learn my own. Now I'm a filthy right swing only polearm hold spammer like Rhaelys but Mori taught me how to block and how to fuck people over with holds and we learned to chamber together <3

There has been numerous people shaping my experience in cRPG, in minor or major ways.

Short list, somewhat chronological:

Vincenzo(Might have been another 22nd): Watching him defend a tower against a horde of people, where none would get past his great maul, intrigued me. Thus i started on the path of becoming a mauler.
Jesus (was this Vincenzo?): Seeing the other team panic when Jesus charged, was majestic. This inspired my own charges, later coined suicide charges.
Thomek: For teaching me how to play. And for inspiring me to this day, shaping all my characters after his masochistic ideals.
Saladin: For teaching me his dirty tricks and exploits.
Ptah/Argento: Teaching me the value of a well placed kick.
Chimp: For blocking everything i threw at him, forcing me to think outside the box.
Someone special: For teaching me chambers.
Urist: For teaching me a lesson in humility, when i needed it.
Tai feng: Teaching me to look twice on a "helpless" peasant before engaging combat.
Bjord: Teaching me proper stabbing technique.
Khorin: Helped me evolve when i had stagnated.
Mr Turtle: My wardrobe collection, is largely inspired by your fashion sense.
Alex: Taught me it was possible to hold attack after a chamber. Also inspired my quest to perfect chambers against hold-attacks, which in time, i failed.
Korgoth and Gabe: For preaching teamplay above suicide runs.

Also had a lot of dueling partners on eu_3 & ndition during this period, those i remember: Ragni, danish & blueberry.
Gnjus & Dave inspired my xbow usage.

(Tenne (in his melee days))

Must be thinking of someone else, I've never been pure melee, only ever an archer with 2 handed prof so I didn't have to run away all the time if I knew I could take my attacker.

However, you've all reminded me of Poul... "Back in the day", as most of you will know, he was the plated archer 2 hander sniper bloke. He inspired me to stick with medium armour and not become a plated archer 2 hander sniper bloke like the rest of the people following in his footsteps.

Jesus was Chuck Norris of the 22nd. I use to play cRPG with him back when I was in 22nd. I remember his Pike days and he always rocked the Vaegir War Mask and Sarranid Guard Armour, He was a bit like an original Chase.

Korgoth and Gabe: For preaching teamplay above suicide runs.

Too many people inspired me in-game over the time I've played the mod. But I like it when people are recognisable purely by their gear. As far as I can remember, Christo has looked the way he does and used that damned weapon. Kinngrimm looked awesome with his leather jacket and sidesword but then he went *dark* and started using a pick and proper armour...

Also Tenne with his straw hat, RandomDude and his full set of Antarian gear... too many people to name with quirks that went beyond efficient killing weapons and most protective armour etc etc

The person who inspired me the most is Rosewood. I've only just realized that which is rather sad when I come to think of it. He taught me that wearing matching and historically accurate gear is the shit and is by far more important than getting the frag. Being able to get the frag while wearing aforementioned gear should always be your aim. I didn't care much about matching gear back then, hwoever, so I went down the road of digital efficiency with the Danish greatsword and then later on the glaive. Now I've sold both of those broken weapons and I feel liberated! :D

The first one to ever teach me the basics of Warband was a guy called Thorn. I've never met him since that day so long ago when I was a young Beta tester. He was very patient and gave me a handicap whenever I needed it so I could get used to the blocking.

Back when Nditions was enjoyable I loved to duel Cairo and Maco. There were lots of others as well but I've forgotten their names. I think a lot of them might have been Guards and Templars.

On EU 3 I've enjoyed duelling Chimp, Ninja_Lisa, Tor, (Back when I used my glaive) Tommy, (That was before he could fight, was quite enjoyable :) ) Targon, Daymun and many others.

Those that inspire me the most now are those who wear matching and historically sound gear and are still able to fight decently.

Forgot to mention a few clan names.

Diggles: Taught me how to play shielder and teamwork. Attempt to teach me how to cav...but horses don't like me.
Relit: How to downblock forever, how to kill spearmen, how to be a spearman.
Blackwhite: How to be so much better than someone it you almost feel pity for them and let them think they are good.
Turboflex: General skills gained from playing with him.
Ruaz: How to inspire teammates to greatness. (This guy seriously doubled or tripled the amount of kills he made as an archer when I started cheering him on)

Non- Clan:
Saul: More holds, footwork.
Mori: How to block.

in my first weeks at crpg (lika a year ago) i was going for an archer build. then i noticed a guy called La_Hire. he was dominating siege with his german gs, beating the shit out of everyone, doing all kinds of rambo stuff. it was really inspiring. so i respec to a 2hander and played as 2hander 8 of my 10 gens. after ive been recruited by cicero to bashi i asked him about La_Hire. he told me he proposed him to be a bashi but he didnt knew english so they couldnt take him. dont see him around anymore. but i hope someday he comes back and i can have a duel with the guy.

there are some several more people really made this game special for me. radh, hasul, hetman and all the other dudes from nocna zmiana; we had shit loads of glory together.( hasul is only interested in killing me now though, fucking noob hasul :D )

micah and shanks; theyre the reason i decided to have more agi in my builds. watching shanks tought me a lot about backpedalling.

van_damme; as infantry you might think him as an asshole teambumper. but actually hes one of the best cavs in the game. he tought me how to ignore inf. when its needed. you dont need better reflexes or mw weapon as cav. you just need to be more smart

blackbow for being a pain in the ass

and ofc cicero for getting me in a clan i can proud to be in

Well I forgot to list my ranged mentors. That list has grown recently.

Byzantium_The_Intolerant: Read his guide (http://forum.meleegaming.com/guides/the-art-of-throwing-ii/) on throwing. Helped a lot and I finally had a decent build to use throwing effectively. Got couple good tips from Ronin in that thread as well.

Fallen_Loki: Archery tactics.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j7HY8Qhan7k

Merc_DaveUKR: Crossbowery basics and tricks (http://forum.meleegaming.com/guides/crossbowery-basics-and-tricks/). Also really helpful advices in game when I've talked to him. Nuff said.

22nd_BlackBow and Guard_Tenne: Spectated them a lot couple past days and followed them with my archer alt to learn about archery. Really fun to play with. Also Nord_Bagge, but I'm always on the wrong side and he headshots me every time... Except once :P

Myself! :-P No just kidding, but when I became a Horse Archer the only other person to have done it (mokk i think) wasn't playing, and I ever only saw him once as peasant on a siege. Im pretty much self tought from 100 of hours as single player HA on the original mount and blade.

I'd say from Vince (black armour, hurscal shield and broad axe guy) I learned the power that heavy armoured appearance has on players in this game (back then a lot of people wouldn't even try to kill you, they would assume they were already dead)  - but that for the old CRPG when heavy armoured horse archers were possible.

I learned from a lot of the BRD guys when I first joined.  Brunchlady, now Cyclopsided, showed me the ropes and what there is to look forward to learning - especially back when you could do ridiculous crap with ladders - glad I didn't bother learning since they fixed it since.  Cyranule, whether he meant to or not, taught me as I threw myself at him in duel server a lot just to learn to manual block and be able to read even the best feinting from fast 1h and 2hers.  Ryden inspired me a lot too in that aspect, and was always one of my favorite people to duel because he had the perfect offense and defense, and an awareness that made all us old bastards look bad.  Same with ManOWar.  Robert Namo helped me out too, because he was always fun to fight with or against.

I took a lot from Goretooth actually.  He plays aggressive, which I tend towards even when its not appropriate.  But I really picked up the value of held swings and footwork from him.

Operators like Silveredge, WeeBo, Karma.

Puutie lance cav like Huey, BADPLAYER, and TommyHu

Dan, Life, and Palatro were always switching it up and inspired me to be versatile with builds and try everything once.  I liked all the ATS guys

Archers like sWalker, Aderyn, Taser, Agile, Itchy

Bigsandwich, Beeper, Canary, Dexxtaa, Sauce, all with their own take on polearms, where my heart lies in the end.

Spaniard, Dynamike, and kekekee set my love for 2H cav in stone.

In the early days Uhtred on his horse with morningstar was very fun and this guy "knight".
Superbeast as well for being an early tin can :D

People who actually learned me something gotta be the guys from the Guard clan, Bifi, Jorm, Tenne and Mori.

He inspired me to try out lancer cav about two years ago.
I saw him riding on a beautiful white courser and I knew that was my calling.
I can still remember sitting in the duel server on my rouncey hoping one day I would be able to buy a courser

Also, playing with alot of the RS guys back in the day really inspired me to push my melee skills, even though I had gotten good at cavalry.
I didn't want to become a "one trick pony" no pun intended

Givi, back in my native days, before he was nK or even a swordsman. The fields of Team Deathmatch are probably also the first place I got to experience the terror of Beeper, haha.

In cRPG and my time spent here, man, there are so many great players and all around good people here, I don't think I can even compile a fair list, so I'll just go for two big ones for me: FrugFrug, for being a boss with any build he does (inspiring me to have many, many alts of all types) and for more often than not being a fellow light armor enthusiast, and Decius, for being probably my all time favorite person to duel.

Shanks and Micah being *awesome* players of 2-handed breed...  8-)

Byzantium BD bulldog, Beast daughter, Hearst, Birkix, Elmuri... all these highly skilled and nice friendly players.

STOPHammertime being so funky and great thrower  :P

Juhanius being skilled archer and team player.

Merc Phaz and Bjorn being nice leaders/tacticians.

Nord Kajia giving handy pointers at dueling and being nice friendly person.

In no particular order, but I remember early in my cRPG "career" I would spend my time watching these players while I was dead, generally being in awe.

Manowar
Cyranule
Harmless_Peasant
BKS_Harn
Goretooth

Otus_VI.

Now I know most of you never have heard of him, but bear with me!

Back in the day, I introduced him to cRPG in real life. He got really excited, never really player multiplayer on native so he couldn't block back then. He decided to go with a shield, and he slowly started to get better at it. I remember buying his high end shield which he ended up using until the next gen. In time, after countless of hours spent in Eu 3 with him, he has evolved to be atleast twice better in dueling than me (not saying I can do jackshit), but it's always fun to duel against him or play siege until the late hour. While not being the best duelist, or the most egoist on cRPG  he is still hard to beat with his tiny 1 handed sword, Flamberge which he swings faster than katana or his Bamboo Spear stabbing. His speciality is gangs. When faced off against 3 or more players, he can dance around them freely and remain still with high hp. He seems to die in battle quite fast with his kamikaze tactics tho

Always makes playing cRPG fun when playing with him.

Shanks.

Amazing bro to play with, always fun to fool around with :D beast with his 15-27 build.

Craftybadger.

Amazing long spear player, really fun to watch play.

Everkistus.

Fun mate to talk with, really friendly towards new players. Also a good team mate on the battlefield.

KingGylpe.

One of the best hoplites out there, inspired me to pick up the class.

Elio.

A polearm lover, Rhodok themed clothing. What else do you want? ;) Really friendly, constantly giving his MW weapons in eu 7.

Dood.

I rarely see him, and he never talks. But a man with MW Throwing Lancers who is good at throwing, inspires me to do throwing STFs.

Polelord.

I laughed when I saw him with his huscarl shield, killing 3 people in a row in battle with melee stones. Really good player with polearms, too!

I never really remember anyone inspiring me to play a certain class... My first character was called chazcaz, back when the servers reset every 30 mins, and I used to run about on a horse with a lance, shield, warhammer and bec de corbin. (God bless the old slot system) But I never played very often so didnt take time to look at any of the other players. The only guy I remember liking, was Vance with his huscarl shield and black armour. Oh! and how could I forget BD_Bane, running about with his morningstar on the horse, he took time out to duel and help me, after I beat him up with a wooden staff one EU1 once. :D

Longbow: Arrowblood, Tenne, Silicium
Horsearcher: Tuonela, Black Corsair, Jackie (god, I still fucking hate him with his shielder/ha/whatever hybrid )

Nowadays:
For the lulz and the "oneupmanship" between ranged classes: Prizane, Nuuk, Thomas_Cadarn, Strudog, Massassin, Dave

also: all the damn Drz and Grey archers at the sieges...ffs...I dont have athletics anymore!

And I forgot Bane, who as Blueberry said, he never killed you outright if you were the last one, he would always try and give you a fair fight. He'd get off his horse and duel you like a gentleman. Regardless of what you said or did.

Beatrixkiddo. The first and in my many years of experience with this game, the only tincan worth modelling myself after. Back when the winged great helmet was the coolest helmet out there, I could see her/him coming from across the map and knew my team was fucked. Seriously, this player was the top of the line, absolutely amazing back when I started. I saw him/her online a couple months ago, but have no idea if they're still around at all.

Love to uumdi, tug and splooge for mentioning me and anyone else I might have missed!

I've honestly learned a lot from everybody who plays this mod especially the guys in chaos (karma and canary especially) and the FCC guys mainly the cav teaching me how to cav and fallen back in the good old day for shooting me up cuz I can now dodge arrows ;)

But obvisouly it was the Hosperglers who have taught me the most devestater for recrutin/training me and sticking up for me when I'm bein a bitch. Peppovitch for being a great leader and master strategist on the field. Develize for being a cocky douchebag and the rest of hosps for being great clan mates and sticking together.

People who have inspired my current build suuper3 for the 2h cav, Mirey for the build and murchad for showing me the ways of he Arabian warhorse!

Only person that comes to mind for me is San. I do not claim him to be the best duelist, or the most "skilled"(although he'll bend just about anyone he can find over his knee in a duel as well), but never have I seen a player in this mod that is as brutally effective as him in killing the fuck out of everyone while dying as little as possible. I always imagine him not as a human, but as a machine that has been constructed for the sole purpose of murder. I've never seen him fail to pay attention to anything, or find himself in the middle of 5 enemies without his entire team dying first. And he's really knowledgeable about most things in the mod, and I've never once seen him act rudely to another player.

Gafferjack was instantly one of my favorites on the mod too.  You'd see the padded leather on a packed siege server and know death was coming for you.  Personally that was my favorite build of the mod, before slots became a knavery.

Almost all the old RS crew for everything in general and teamwork, lots of it. I remember seeing the lot of them on a server and thinking, "They're having so much fun together, I need to be in that clan." Ever since, I have, even in the split factions. And the Templars Rubicon Passenger and Grandmaster Growl for being my first clan. God shouting 'God wills it' was fun.
For polearm inspiration: Dexxtaa, Rhaelys, Canary, Sauce, Beeper
Hoplites especially: Socraties, Kophka, Spoons
Huey_Newton for inspiring me to be more than a decent cav for about half a generation
Lord_Lurk for simply being a good duel buddy

Special shoutout to Chimp for convincing me after a multitude of sucessfull chambers that I needed to learn how to manual block asap.
And lastly, the long gone Patrick for making me keep getting better and putting me down when I did.

Urist was and is pro. Too bad most people don't get to see him play, he "officially" sticks around the Rageball Server, and "unofficially" in the Duel Server with  wierd as fuck japanese names.

His skill with the italian made me go 1h for one gen.
