Title: Several new players
Post by: Skyline on July 20, 2012, 08:19:12 pm
Hello everyone,
Several friends of mine and myself have recently (within the last week) picked up the M&B series from steam since it was only 9 bucks for all 4. We are all very experienced PvPers in lots of other games. (IE Darkfall, UO, EQ,AC,SB,DaoC,Tera, and several others as well as MANY fps games) We are trying to find an active guild to learn with, must have some sort of voice comm (TS or vent, prefer vent tho), needs to be active (we are wanting to try the Stratigis out), and must be ok with us cross gaming from time to time. We are not looking to take info and run or anything like that. We currently have 4, soon to be 6. All looking to get better and have fun with some city sieges ect. All are 25yrs+, 3 Prior Military, and have played together for a very long time so we know how we all react/play in situations. Anyway this is getting to be a book and i didnt intend for that to happen lol. If anyone is looking shoot me a PM!
Thanks for your time!

Your description fits most of the clans here. My advice - pick a visual style you prefer and choose your clan/guild by that. Also, don't think too highly of your previous experience - it won't help you here

True, mount and blade is different than most other games. Directional combat isn't that easy to learn.

If you're NA, try CHAOS or Remnants.

If you're EU, there are one or two clans that try to help their members improve, namely Byzantium and Mercenaries.

I am one of many good players in EU and my recommendation is to go to the duel server on a daily basis, 1-2 hours and getting your ass kicked by anyone who is better than you. That's the fastest way to improve.

Other than that, check out the Beginner's help section for things that may interest you in your pursuit of skill development.

Anything else, just ask here or the irc(top right corner for link). People there are usually helpful. Just don't expect answers from the devs. :P

Good luck! Learn in duel servers because Battle has some down time while Siege may get you in unwanted situations 1v2, 1v3 etc etc

Forgot to mention that the early grind is a little bit tedious...you'll need to be at least 20-25 before being able to do much as a new player. (namely gold for equipment/stats)

You guys obviously have not seen Darkfall.... Its no different except it has magic and its a full persistent world, along with a slight HP difference. And thank you for the info everyone we already have a good grasp on game play, its really not hard at all.... Just looking for people to do some larger stuff with.

Well, no offense but battle mode in Warband is nothing like Darkfall. And cRPG community has one of the best players in the whole Warband community. You really want to try being humble if you aim to get anywhere. :P

Try battle mode and you'll most likely rage if you expect it to be easy.

Chaos or Remnants? I love those guys but they aren't exactly new player friendly.

KUTT (the clan I am in) plays mostly in siege mode. We coordinate well and use strategy.

NH is another clan that tries to coordinate and use strategy. They are very very noob friendly. Most of their members are noobs, but they try.

Astralis, TKoV, and SoW are all good clans with solid players and solid leaders. TKoV is mostly a battle oriented clan. Astralis and SoW probably play equal parts in both siege and battle.

KUTT probably plays more in Siege but we have a diverse membership base and we spend plenty of time in duel, battle, and siege. We are also very active in strategus which is similar to single player campaign but it's clans fighting.

Remnants and Chaos are very good, but tend to be more about personal skill rather than strategy. I know that Chaos especially is very active in strategus and excellent in strategus tactics. Either one of those are good clans, although last I heard applications to Remnants were closed.

Hop in Nditions TS and don't be shy.  I recommend playing with a clan and its members for awhile, make sure you mesh and that there's mutual respect.  Skill comes and goes, people are looking to get along and enjoy the game these days.  Empires rise and fall and we've all seen enough to reflect on the impermanence of an e-boner.

You don't have to apply to join anybody for them to help you out with specifics, you know?  Ask me or anybody about builds, or strategus, old and new versions.  The devs are still working on the mod a lot, so you'll still be able to see the game change into something else over time.  I'd play in duel server with you guys.

Its not arrogance.... its the fact that there are other games similar to this...... it may not be a carbon copy but this isnt the only game with this type of game play... so other gaming experience can help. If your just looking to argue please find another thread to do it on. Im just looking for information, not opinions about my gaming experience.

Sure we are.  Help them develop individual skill and they can do what they want with it - even form their own clan or merc group, since there's 4 of them.  A couple of us puutie sperglords have a degree of selflessness.

Check out NH, new dude.  They're awesome guys too, if you like the theme.  They like to employ a ton of fun and versatile builds.  Instead of maxxing out on polearm or 2H, some will give themselves power throw, riding, and/or shield skill.

well byzantium doesn't train ppl anymore.
You learn things yourself by watching other ppl,and whole clan is going to play guild wars 2 when it comes out (exept me because it is too nerdy for my taste).
If you live in EU join deserters, there is a lot of good players there, and maybie they have time and patience to explain you how to play.

Okay.

How about:

Hey man, you guys must be really talented pro MLG gamers who only need to play for 35+ hours to be able to destroy people with 1000-2000+ hours, so I think you should make your own clan and call it "Pro's from Darkfall". Only people from Darkfall are allowed to join. Sorry if I dared to mention that this game has a steep learning curve and in addition, I dared give you friendly advice that would help you in your quest of computer game dominance(because you are obviously already in dominion of cRPG, we are just too bad at this game to tell). I hope you can see it in yourself to forgive my ignorance.

Skyline does have a point with this game not being much harder than some of the other highly competitive games out there. Fortunately, there is an ever gradual and highly rewarding learning curve that will leave you playing the game for hours. Some good advice was already posted.

Get with a group of experienced players who you guys can get along with. Even if you're in another clan, most other people don't mind guests on their TS. If you properly learn from an experienced player on TS about some of the more advanced mechanics (knowledge > reaction time, twitch, etc), it really doesn't take too long to get great if you are familiar with competitive gaming and are interested in getting better. The only part that always takes time is building up proper muscle memory for blocks.

NH can give themselves points in whatever they want but they still are terrible.

KUTT has a lot of xbow/thrower/cav hybrid builds. Only Sosarian and a few others max that kind of stuff.

This is pretty much best advice. Wouldnt join fallen they are 80-90% an EU clan you will end up playing by yourselves most of the time. Occasionally several of them will come over to NA from EU to try to trick people into thinkign there are NA players in fallen to get NA players to join but everyone whose been around for awhile knows better.

Darkfall and cRPG ?  (I have played both and some of the other games you mentioned....)

First thing is skyline I dont think anyone is implying you're not a good game player....from the sounds of it you're part of a group that is pretty skilled at FPS and combat mechanics games.   What Bjord and maybe some others are saying is that the two games are different regardless.

So, with that out of the way, I have to say Darkfall and cRPG are somewhat different from one another.  Again, you may very well be good at both, but that doesn't change the fact that they are different - just as Darkfall and Call of Duty are different, but one can be good at both.

Having played both I would say this :
- Darkfall has a faster pace by far (super jumps, fast running, etc) and can be more chaotic (massive aoe magic dmg lol)
- cRPG has combat mechanics that require more control and fine tuning (manual parry blocking, chambering, footwork etc)

(personally, while being decent at Darkfall I found its combat ...silly :|)

So again, I wouldn't necessarily say one is harder than the other, but they are somewhat different.
Welcome to cRPG though - like I said, sounds like you guys will be fine - take your time and you won't burn out.

Personal suggestion though is not to boast too much, even if you are great...in fact it tends to be those that really are great that do the least boasting

(PS - what did you think of Tera?)
(Also - how did you get from Native to cRPG?  Where did you find out about cRPG?)
Title: Re: Several new players
Post by: Grumbs on July 20, 2012, 09:42:11 pm
Yea DF is more fast paced FPS aiming skills mixed with teamwork/tactics/awareness and staying calm under pressure. cRPG is a lot more relaxed but is less about aim and more about making decisions on the fly, with different attacks types and counters. Movement is a lot more controlled and deliberate too since you have momentum and move slower and theres a lot more depth to melee here

This community has a quiet majority that just plays and has fun, but theres quite a loud obnoxious minority that are still going through puberty

Oh dont get me wrong.... i know they are different, and i will say this game is abit harder to get use to. But at the same time it didnt take me more than a few hours to actually start getting the mechanics down to where i understood what i was doing wrong without guidance. We are all at the point now though, where we need to play with people to fine tune some stuff and learn what we are still doing incorrectly. And im sure there is alot of stuff we still dont know about, and that is expected.

As a fallen player, I don't exactly agree, we had a temporary low point but most NA Fallen have returned from their "distractions." (Like me, for example). If you play evenings then it would work out, but to each their own I suppose.

The King of Boats is correct here.

All these clans have good players and leadership. As you play just notice who's on and see who you like the best.

As has been suggested, duel server with a decent/good player is the best way to improve. Especially if you're in TS/mumble/etc with them to have them tell you what you did wrong or to explain things to you. There's a lot to learn about the game and you might learn things even if you have played other games that are similar. Every game has its own quirks and play style.

The whole attraction that drew us to the game is the brutality. The fact that a clothy can jab someone in the eye and kill them is so fun. The array of weapons and armor makes everyone look somewhat unique, and over all its just fun to play. We will be sticking around....

Thanks again everyone for the responses. Glad to see the whole community is not overlaid with constant trolling lol.

Hey hey guys you forgot the most newb friendly clan ever is the Hospitallers! Since no one else mentioned us I find it best to remind everybody about how awesome we are and our willingness to take in new Players is unmatched. As long as you guys are 18+ and are chill in TS that's all that really matters to us. And occasionally we like to show up NH and KUTT in teamwork which is always fun. The other good thing about us is that we probably have more members than KUTT and NH together so you'll hardly lack for ppl to play with.

As a fallen player, I don't exactly agree, we had a temporary low point but most NA Fallen have returned from their "distractions." (Like me, for example). If you play evenings then it would work out, but to each their own I suppose.

I don't think people realize all the fallen on because you aren't all standing on a hill shooting arrows a mile away as the last group left alive.

No trolling is people opening their mouths and providing no useful information to the current topic.

No useful info!? Bitch please, look at the best reply. If you call that trolling then by your definition, you're worse than a troll - dismissing helpful advice because you "don't need it", because you are god's gift to gaming.

There are many egomaniacs in this community(some say I am one of them but obviously they are tripping on LSD), but no one has ever claimed they don't need advice because they are too good for it.

Rule of thumb in life, mate; There is always room for improvement. Humility fucking 101.

If you and several friends all joined up at the same time, why not form your own clan? KUTT originated with just a few real life friends and expanded in to one of the most formidable clans in cRPG (siege at the very least). If all of you are searching for one clan to migrate to together, it might get a little difficult to get accepted places if the clan is forced to take all of you at once or none of you all together.

The Hoplite clan is a good example of this. These guys are new to cRPG, but not new to mount and blade (they came over from Napoleonic Wars), yet they formed at new clan and they have already recruited a few long time players.

If you don't want to go through the hassle of forming your own clan and starting slowly, check out the faction hall page for clans: http://forum.c-rpg.net/index.php/board,7.0.html . I'd say the places to look would be Hospitaller or Astralis. The best way to figure out who you like is to join clans in their teamspeak/ventrilo and talk to them while playing.

I know chaos has the reputation of being Rambos, which we used to do and roll x5's with. But now, the group  is snaller and thoseof us who play together actually use teamwork and fight together on battle, when we do, we roll some x5's, especially on siege. Skill set wise, we like to train the new guys and teach them how to become better.

This thread is great. It's possibly the most humiliating point in Bjords cRPG life and he doesn't even realise it.

Quick summary: Skyline, a new player, asks for a clan and says he learned the game quickly. Bjord cannot accept the fact that the new player thinks he can learn the game quickly. That's where Bjord tries to constantly derail the thread, which doesn't really work, because everyone is ignoring his comments more or less and continues with the constructive discussion. Bjord goes on nonetheless, throwing a tantrum, trying to impress everyone, especially the new one, with his perception of his very own skill level, proofing it by the many countless hours he needed to get to this level. Again, no one cares.

I think I have never before on the cRPG forum seen someone who tried so pathetical to prove himself against someone who is totally new to the game. It's like the bully kid in school in fear of losing his reputation to the new kid that pulls all the jokes.

Please, Bjord, stop it!  Or not. Your call, I'm fine either way

JOIN CAVALIERES

The initiation rites are well known for their homosexual, bestial debauchery. We have the best cav around, and it's not because we play alot. No, it has more to do without our sexual tendencies and method of instruction. You see, each player is paired off with an older, experienced horse of the same gender. Then the full gauntlet of sexual experience and technique is run through, beginning with all things oral.

No better people to learn from. Straight from the horses mouth, as it were.

Make an initial judgment based upon how members of different clans perform and act in the servers (both performance wise and conduct wise) and then start reaching out. Don't necessarily take up any offers of recruitment from clans; you should be the one to decide what clan is a potentially good fit, not the other way around.

I just thought some humility couldn't hurt. Maybe I'm the only one who got the impression that he was expecting to get the hang of every possible thing about the mechanics in a matter of days. I mean, judging by his posts at least.

I noticed this from his posts Bjord, but just knew arguing with him about it wouldn't change his mind :)
My mindset was this - he'll either actually master it in 2 months and rape everyone, or he won't and he'll figure it out on his own...

You can still do that, go level 35 with 3/36 build and be a peasant FOREVER.

Fallen Brigade NA side, we are always looking for teamplay-oriented players.  The last few weeks have seen quite a few new members and recruits, and our average night is five Fallens (with only one archer)!
