Another battle will be arranged in 2-3 weeks. Please give feedback.

Battle is at 18.00 utc, that is 18.00 gmt or 19.00 cet

Dear everyone. Happy New Year. And I am done with my BA :D

I sensed that the Large Multi Clan Tournament was a rather decent success so I believe we should try something similar, but on a somewhat smaller scale.

In essence I will try and gather two teams of at least 50 men each, if more are interested we will make it 65.

Basic rules:
1) Battle Last no more than 60 min + at least 5 minutes for checking equipment on teams.
2) Each round last no more than 10 + 1 min for eq check.
3) Sign-up will last until tuesday.
4) Each team will choose a commander before thursday.
5) Before saturday a team roster will be given to the three assigned judges
6) Battle will take place sunday the 15th of january, 18.00 utc
7) Equipment restrictions:
    a) No more than 10 cav, where only three of these may be heavier than destrier
    b) No more than 10 ranged.
    c) No more than 10 with an armor more expensive than 7k (aka Light Kuyak) 10k (banded armor). This is ONLY the body armor. There are no restrictions on gloves, shields, footwear or weapons (apart from ranged).
    d) or any combination there of, that is a horse archer in black armor counts for each three categories.
8) Each clan can sign-up for team a or team b with either 5, 10 or 15 players. I strongly recommend having at least 4-5 substitutes, as people always find excuses not to show up.
8a) I'll make team a and b with a few councillors.
9) 5 spots on each team is reserved for Non-claners. Sign-up here...
10) When the battle begins each type go to a corner assigned in the first minute of battle
     a) Upper right corner people with no restrictions
     b) Lower right corner ranged restrictions
     c) Upper left corner horse restrictions
     d) Lower left corner armor restrictions
     e) If any combination the trooper arranges himself in the middle between the two groups aka a horseman with heavy armor is middle left corner.
11) If the battle ends because of time is out, if a team has more than twice as many players +1 then the win will go to that team.
12) Cav may not delay battles. If it is deemed by the referees that cav or any other player for that matter is drawing out time to get a draw or any such similar the win may be awarded to the opposing team. A win cannot be awarded if the player has not been warned at least two times with 15. sec. in between (which in reality means a player can draw out 30 sec. legaly).

Any more?

I am not sure I can allow one clan to make up all the cav. Can you field nothing but cav (alts are allowed?)
Else I might have to restrict you at 5...

10k with heaviest armor allowed being the banded armor?
Title: Re: Sunday Large Team Battle 15th of january - Sign-Up!
Post by: Tristan on January 08, 2012, 09:22:55 pm
We can do that. I just went with the older tournament formats, but seeing as the fallens use the same limit I can agree to that.

Title: Re: Sunday Large Team Battle 15th of january - Sign-Up!
Post by: Teeth on January 08, 2012, 09:26:19 pm
My desired limit would be 11709 gold for obviously unselfish reasons  8-)

10k with heaviest armor allowed being the banded armor?
This sounds good. With 7k armour being the heaviest the 10 guys of each team that can go heavier have a too great advantage.

Oh, I also think the time you envisioned checking equipment is optimistic, especially if it involves moving to a specific location.

Post by: Tristan on January 08, 2012, 09:40:02 pm
When people learned it after the first round we were actually able to do it pretty fast last time. The most important point of the +1 min. is actually that the round will last 10 mins not including the eq checking.
Title: Re: Sunday Large Team Battle 15th of january - Sign-Up!
Post by: RamsesXXIIX on January 08, 2012, 09:57:13 pm
I would prefer the armor limit as it is now(EDIT: Light Kuyak). The general atmosphere of armors in cRPG is around there and lower - only some clans consistently use higher levels of armor.

In strategus, armors of such high value have almost never been used, in none of the three versions. It seems silly to me that the tournaments should have higher armor than everything else.

I remember from the last tournament that some guys made some pretty cool movies out of it.

Would anyone be interested in recording and actually cutting a cRPG movie, with some sort storyline why the clans are fighting together against each other etc. etc.
Maybe have each clan write a few lines about them selves or similar.

Could be awesome...

Everyone is welcomed to send me a rating of each team in order to help me balance it out.
Please do so by PM.

The way you do it is to give each team a points value.

5 man Guards may be worth 100 points
and 15 Nords worth only 10.

(or the other way around what ever ;)

I'm 100% certain that Bandits will have more then 10, not sure about 15 tho. Too many "maybe I'll come" and "I'm not sure" but since they're all a bunch of undercover no-lifers we might even come with more then 15.

I'll be honest, i came to this mod from nord invasion and mount and musket so im not awesome. Willing to get better and accept criticism though.

Im not sure about your rating system either? :S if you mean a rating out of 100 then i'd probably put myself at around a 20 or 25. Quite happy taking on someone 1 on 1 and surviving the randoms with a good chance of victory but i've not been around long enough to consider myself hardcore. (i'm hardcore on MM and NI :P)

you also spelled my name wrong as well, didnt want to say :)...

edit: actually i've got a few questions as well. How do the orders take place in a game such as this? ingame chat or is there a TS or a mumble or something? what time would it be in GMT and as there are different clans attending will they take orders through their own leadership or will there be an overall team commander who controls things?
thanks.

Title: Re: Sunday Large Team Battle 15th of january - Sign-up closed!
Post by: Tristan on January 10, 2012, 09:04:36 pm
Problem is, that is all so "shaky" if they can attend or not.

I'd rather we have many able to play than a lot of last minute changes. This won't be the last battle I arrange.

The only way I see those extra 5 participate is if they can find another 5 from another clan. I have to try and do some sort of balance, hence sign-up most close at some point.

I'll give it until tomorrow to find another 5 so we can have 57 on each team...

Commander "asap", no later than saturday. A rough roster of class demands from each clan would be nice as well.

Teams are pretty imbalanced imo.

I think Fallen should swap with Bandits, Byzantium or Nordmen, Fallen might not be all EU.
And maybe swap HRE or French with Guards. Team 1 is given French and HRE, wich might create and advantage for team 2... cause there is more of a language barrier in team 1.
Team 2 is stacking larger better clans then team 1 is.

Just to give you an example, ofcourse all clans have an assortiment of build/equipment layout members. This is a list of what i usually see them field on CRPG servers.

I dont have to look twice. If the teams stay like this, Team 2 is winner by default.

Edit: I forgot to add that the "draw" is very.....indicative......Strategos friends all stacked together (Fallen, GK, HRE)......the seeding was just perfect, as if Michel Platini & Sepp Blatter themselves pulled the balls out of the lottery drum.

I am physically unable to pronounce your name, its your own fault. G and a N after eachother is already hard to get out of your mouth, adding a J inbetween is impossible. I'm glad I don't have to utter your name much, otherwise I'd just start calling you bignose.

Sat down with your so called counselors. You were clearly stacking better clans on the 2nd team to secure boasting rights of your own event.

Team 2 has more:

Veteran Players
Hierloom Stacking Players
These clans hold more players capable of carrying a team
These clans contain more players capable of hitting high on scorelists
Team 2 have more clans wich have more experience in events.
Look at the Fallen tournament or any other tournament, check the clan performance. Team 2 has average better performance.
Team 2 hasnt got as much a language barrier then team 1 has.
Team 1 is given a Hospitaller, nothing wrong with that, but it will be NA pinger. While Team 2 is given another veteran player.
Team 2 can select the best 10 cav players they got, while team 1 has to give GK 5 Horses to not render them useless (Check last tournament when GK were forced on foot)

I would love to hear the coherent arguments and facts, how Tristan and Co got to select these teams. For now, the team setups are total fucked.

This isnt going to be a battle, its going to be a slaughter

....and I think you're talking nonsense, as always. Your team is made of Fallen, GK & HRE, 3 clans that work closely together in Strategos and know each other inside out. Also - Fallen & GK were in the winning team on the last big battle tourney. Also - 22nd battalion filled with veterans & archers who's performances are always on the border of believable (in other words - they look like they're haxing, need i say more ?), Merciless - former Risen, one of the best Tournament clans out there. Wolpers - almost same as 22nd - unbelievably good. All in all - if you want the Paul Award 2012 so hard i propose we hand it to you right away even tho its only early January, there is only one other pretender for it but I'm sure Gisbert is a patient man who will have no problems with waiting for the 2013 edition.

I have several Ideas for the next "large battle". But I'm taking baby steps as coordinating these sort events is always more trouble that one should be expected.

@Jambi: Thank you for your input. However I must say that you put far too much into "boasting" rights and my personal bias. While I do intend to reach some sort of balance doing so perfectly is impossible. Your critisism has in other words been noted, as has that of others who have been kind enough to contacts me (from both sides argueing why their side is weaker). That I hear concerns from both teams actually makes me kind of confident that balance is not all that screwed. We'll see.

The armour threshold should be Cuir Bouilli not Banded.  Both are brown so its more effort to check them if you stick the cut off in between them.

Use the Cuir Bouilli as the threshold and its just a quick glance to check that its under.  The next armour up is red which makes life much easier :D

+1 on this one, my personal armour is the Cuir boulli and as i am a noob i only currently have around 8000 gold and stare open mouthed at people buying loom points for 200k up :P

That's very kind of you but i'm a strong believer of an old saying, "give a man a match he can light a fire, set a man on fire hes warm for the rest of his life"... or its something along those lines anyway :P

What i'd really like to do is learn more about the strategus and the crafting aspect of this game which seems to be how most people get money. I have been looking into it today and it seems iv'e missed more than half of what this mod is about! This isn't the place to discuss that sort of thing though so thank you very much for your kind offer, but i like to try things on my own first :)

I have a question regarding the armor limitation: Does the 7k/10k only refer to body armor or all armor together (head, hand, foot)? If its body armor only, are there any limitations to the other armor and to weapons/shields?

It refers to body armor only. The limit is 10k. There is no limitation on any other equipment besides horses and ranged weapons.

Sorry, i wasn't trying to change it at all, i was just trying to bring up something. I forgot what it was in my post but now i remember it was about significant numbers. Atleast, that's what i think it is. Isn't 10k a number inbetween 2 numbers, and not merely 10.000?

That's what i thought, but i guess 'k' is simply a shortcut for saying 'thousand'. Oh well. Nerdy me.

Quote from: Wikipedia
The SI prefix for a thousand is kilo-, officially abbreviated as k—for instance prefixed to "metre" or its abbreviation m, kilometre or km signifies a thousand metres, as such, technically oriented people occasionally represent the number in a non-standard notation by replacing the last three zeros of the general numeral with "k", for instance, 30k for 30,000.

A few additional rules (that I remembered from the last tournament):

If the battle ends because of time is out, if a team has more than twice as many players +1 then the win will go to that team.
Cav may not delay battles. If it is deemed by the referees that cav or any other player for that matter is drawing out time to get a draw or any such similar the win may be awarded to the opposing team. A win cannot be awarded if the player has not been warned at least two times with 15. sec. in between (which in reality means a player can draw out 30 sec. legaly).

Thanks for organizing despite enduring terrifying defeats it was quite fun!  :D

Was nice to see so much work put into a fun community event, so once more thanks to everyone involved!

Some thoughts/Feedback:

Please no maps with invisible borders easily reached, it is not very fun when one side can easily block off the most dangerous flanking direction. Also, hills are nice but the biggest ones seem to lead to both sides waiting until one side decides to attack out of boredom. With cavalry and ranged limited in number it is not like regular battle where going out into the open automatically means death.

Secondly, I think the teams could have been it a bit more balanced, it seemed like Team 2 was far stronger as infantry. Most rounds the infantry clash was over in record breaking time. (Maybe there could even be a swap of involved teams if things prove too unbalanced. As a clan that is usually strong may one week be missing several vital players or so on. In general it is more fun for everyone when it is an hour of close battles as opposed to one side completely destroying the other.)

All in all I had a great time and eagerly await the next event.  :D

Thanks to Tristan and any other organizers for making this. Congratz to team 2.

I give my regards to the many people giving suggestions to how my commanading was/is/should be. It's always good to get constructive criticism, but lets not spam Tristan' thread :)

I do think the teams were slightly unbalanced, but I was also not aware it was allowed to camp one of the map edges. I'm pretty confident it is not allowed in strategus.

Anyway, great fun and I hope we can do this again ;)

I think the clan line up on both teams was pretty much equally strong. You just had a really bad showup of a lot of the top players from your clans.

My comments concerning team balance:

I did not fully realize the hitting power of the Byzantium + Nord + Bandit melee mob. They pretty much decided the outcome every round from my point of view.
I had expected Merciless + 22nd + wolper + HRE to be a very strong counter to this. It turned out this was not entirely true.

I hope that with the Draft for the next battle we can achieve a better balance.

We've only signed up with 5 players, wolper with 5 and HRE with 5, they had a total power of 30 and we of 15 so we'd have been outnumbered 2:1 if everyone took their best players we'd be outnumbered anyway.

We only applied for 5 people and we decided to take the most active players, and that does not directly mean the best players always. We just wanted to have some fun. We did have our fun, and in the end we had 12 Merciless because we replaced literally entire 22nd who had 4 players in the end. But atleast we did well in most of the battles catching a 2:1 or 1:1 kd ratio.

So the teams were kind of unbalanced, but it wasn't too bad to play.

I told you that Bandits fill the gaps perfectly and there sure was a lot of gaps in opposing line-up. With the likes of Kuoin in their ranks we might've had Panos in command and we'd still win.

Yeah we had to sent in someone who wanted to get anally fucked by Bandits, I suspected KuoiN would've been the perfect choice. And so it worked.

Maybe clans should do there homework more, before hosting and organizing events like this.
ANd yeah you had fair reasons to believe team  1would bring out there best players, and team 2 there worst, so it would balance out.... herpa derpa
But thanks for the effort

I gave you a list of there usual equipment setup, but you gave no attention to it, nor you had no idea. You simply discarded the whole thought, and went with your own. So dont go saying that you didnt expect the hitting power

Yeah, i have to admit it was a very cheezy tactic. It's a bit of a problem, to be honest. Map edges offer great defensive advantages in battle mode cRPG.

No rules against it though, afaik. In strategus it's not an issue because of the spawn flags.

On one of the maps we did not just camp the map edge, we camped the map corner. That corner sloped up into a bit of a hill, offering advantage to our ranged and made it impossible for your cavalry to threaten them.

Normally, the Master of the Field-flags prevent such cheezy cornercamping. Perhaps we can make a 'gentleman's agreement' to not use the 'cornercamp' tactic in our Sunday Large Team Battles?

Damn straight it is a cheesy "tactic" but it is only a problem when it is abused by a team. I was disappointed to see it used so heavily by team 2. Especially even when they had a big points lead, yet still somehow felt the need to abuse the map edge. Only on the last map did you not use it at all, and some of those rounds were actually a bit close, but by then most  players on team 1 had ceased to care.

---

Why have some bullcrap "gentlemans agreement"? Why not just flat out ban that retarded stuff. Any idiot can tell their team to hide in the corner. It is not fun, interesting or tactical. Otherwise every game will be like this, one team wins the first round, then starts camping to gain an advantage to keep their lead. We used to run events like this on 22nd_Battle all the time back in native, this "tactic" was not allowed.

---

All the same I had fun overall it would just have been nice if we did not lose every round ya know.

I am considering solutions to the problem.

What if it was possible to have a flag spawn in the middle of the map. Exactly the middle of the map after 4-5 minutes?

Well now, dear "King", no need to exaggerate things, we played like what - 7 rounds total ? Correct me if I'm wrong but i think we charged you 4 out of 7 times........including the first round which was the most unpredictable in terms of the Winner so i wouldn't really say we used the edge camp "heavily" and after "lot of points advantage".

Tristan I believe that would be possible but only with custom made maps as otherwise the entry points are placed at random locations. Why not just have it as referees decision? With a rule to not camp map edges.

Well flags in the middle will prob just result in people racing to the middle and whoever gets there first camping it lol.

A random flag location is better than a predictable one.
