Title: [Feedback] What's right/wrong with 0.241
Post by: chadz on September 21, 2011, 09:37:28 am
I think those threads really help us in determining what people think of the patch without a lot of emotions. Therefore, another round of:
What's right/wrong with the patch.

What do you think what's wrong and what's better in this version, compared to the last one?
No rage, no real text, no arguments, just opinons. Do it with + for positive lines, - for negative lines.
Example:
- Archers got nerfed
- Cav got nerfed
- Infantry got nerfed
- Everyone else's class got buffed
+ upkeep got reduced
+ servers less laggy

Posts not fitting this scheme will get deleted, we really need to be able to skim past the thread and see what people think. There are other threads to release your steam.

It's also perfectly fine, encouraged actually, to post stuff someone has posted before you. Now is your time to voice your opinion (and actually get heard).

Also, vote!

Here is my opinion.

- not gettin rid of polestun.

+ for throwing buff.

- Archer´s gettin peirce dmg
(click to show/hide)

+ for new helmets.

+ for removing overhead on pike´s.

+ WSE.

- not gettin respec and heirloom reset with mayor patches where you make huge changes.

- ladder present in battle they have nothing to do there but giving the archer/xbow immunity to melee for a whole round.
(click to show/hide)

+ horse acceleration decreased slightly

- horse turning speed decreased slightly <-- lance nerf was more then enough

+ crpg is being worked on
+ new collision system in melee
+ new cav requirements
+ top end archery dmg now costs more money
+ server indeed felt less laggy

+ items have been added

-  items take too long to get added/         changed    (example black armor)
-  value of top armors against bows  highly decreased due to piercing bow dmg.
- still havent won in the lottery

+throwing penetration
+ no more polearms overheading thru teammates
+ improved weapon collision against ground/objects

- new cav riding requirements
- cav acceleration nerf:  too much
- shield forcefield reduced
- archers doing pierce without longbow
- new hitboxes or whatever the hell is causing swings to go thru ppl
- stupid turk cloth crap instead of Roman Armor

+ riding lvls change
+ introduction of new items
---------------
- more items were expected ( the cav mace for ex )
- for next time (if possible) a clear text at the beginning of the post telling us: which changes are made ( detailed ) , what is the intention of these changes,  ( i think this way people will rage less and if they see something that is not in the text they will understand it s not intentional )
- people not very patient

( for sure much more to say, but i can t speak of what i dont know! )

Btw: tks to all of you who make changes, and make of this game a different game! tks for all your efforts! I think we forget it many times!

- Bullshit armour values. Hitting an opponent 8 times before they die is NOT fun. 3-4 minute duels are boring as hell, especially with the current snail-like combat speed. Which has only increased spamming, you can afford to spam now, you won't die from his strike anyway.

- Archers got buffed(everyone has pierce), can barely get into melee at the moment(on certain maps).

+ Arrow type change weapon damage type. Just the way it's supposed to be, but need some tuning.

+ Deli Cap. I'm like a White African Viking with a cheetah-rooster mutant on my head.

- Blocking with weapons length 200+
- Archery buff (bodkin, see Jambis or Pandors score in test battle)
- New bounce system
- No byzantine helmets
- Too many börek, plum hats
- Thrower buff (now all 3 ranged op)
- Chaotic patch release
- Shield forcefield reduced (if its true, Im pro force field)
+ New items
+ New bounce system (yes its +/-)
+ No overhead for pike (all weapons that are designed only for a stab like spear should lose overhead and side swings, imo)
+ Horses difficulties (but unarmored horses should get better resistance to ranged, now too weak)

+ archer arrow damage type change
+ throwing damage type matters
+ new items
+ cav changes
+ new weapon collisions

- polestun should be reduced
- WPF still does not matter enough

But the patch is a step forward, just like every other was.
Keep up the good work.

I like most of the changes.
+I'm really happy with the katana buff.
-Kind of sad with the archers jump shot removed, but I can deal.
+The arrow system is neat
*I wish there was a cheaper pierce damage arrow with more quantity and less damage like 0.

-I have to say I dislike this new patch because I've crashed 4 times with game errors in the last three hours of off and on playing as opposed to 0 times with the patch prior to this one. Two of those times I had a high multiplier and that is a sacred treasure.

+ balance changes (hope the number of ranged does not increase though)
+ ground collision
+ strategus stuff (ability to re-equip, without dying, big siege tower)
+ CRPG getting changed at all (otherwise it would get boring)

- increased weapon collision with people standing behind you (too many bounces)
- ugly items aren't replaced (black armor)
- pole stun hasn't been removed

+ throwing was buffed (it needed it)
+ ground collision
+ new armours

- the Arbalest was not 3 slots :P

I would like to also add that while the bump being nerfed heavily on cav didnt feel needed or deserved, it seemed to shut up a lot of people who couldnt kill cav while being pretty easy to cope with for most cav. I think cavalry is fine where it is but rather than nerfing horses, nerfing cavalry in this way or a similar vein is the way to go if you feel it is necessary.
Title: Re: [Feedback] What's right/wrong with 0.241

-bouncing weapons
+raised requirements for specialized horses
-items added don't come in sets. No medium/heavy armor/boots set for the new helmets.
+minor balance changes in items took a realism view (p.e. nords short swords adding some pierce damage against same version longer ones).
-heavy board shield doesn't cover your legs now .... probably a little biased here, as is the shield i use, but it is ridiculous that the longer shield in game doesn't cover entirely your legs while in neutral position. I suppose it has to be with the general nerf to shield force field. I could live with my side field being reduced, but not vertical one in this kind of shields.

super -   devs usually revert good changes after a patch due to whining. They don't stand firm to "uneven" and "still op wanna be" claims. They usually have a good starting idea, but fall to pressure of a few people that don't understand what does mean to play (and not to win), while people actually  interested in the game, don't cry/say anything bout the changes (the mass of people not saying anything are actually reinforcing your original ideas, they don't need to take protagonism so they usually don't post a whining plea, don't fall to a few crying ones that make a lot of noise). All of this is about horse autobumping and pike modifications

Just some constructive-criticism

+ cav feels pretty good about now, but a little more turn rate in the future would be epic.
+ requirement for horses. Its now requirement for actual value of the horse, not just relative to the cost.
+ ranged seems okay, maybe the damage is a bit on the high side, but i ride a courser, so i am biased on that account.
+ melee you cant swing through friendlies
- current melee animations means you can barely fight in a melee, especially with 2h in my opinion since you keep teamhitting people beside and behind you.
- removed rider stagger, could be cool if implemented again as a chance dependant on horse weight and rider skill

- Submitted and approved items NOT being added or only partly added
- Arabian requirement. It should match the courser's requirement

+ New items
+ Throwing armor fix
+ Katana buff & general item balance
+ WSE

- char belongs to someone else problems
- laggy as shit (ping jumping like crazy, never did before)
- lots and lots of TKs due to careless teammates and sooner colision
- archer changes (they hurt, a lot! now when they can have superfast pierce bows, cmon, get real, that was uncalled for)
- high tier armor still useless in most situations
- ladder present in battle
- horse requirement changes (finally i got to play cav just to get fucked over and either use destrier or armored whorses now)
- combat feels slower (might be subjective, as i mentioned in other thread, but feels like its slow)

that is all, no positives for me so far

+ All Startegus improvements (not all working, but I like the ideas)
+ Horse difficulty increased (heavy horses should have higher riding requires too, you can see archers on warhorses now)
+ Weapon rack (maybe too powerfull to barricade, but concept is good)
+ Some combat problem sfixed (overheads, ground collision)

- Archery buffed (this troop gets buffed every time with new patch)
- Xbows nerfed (and this troop gets nered witch every new patch, crossbows should be much more accurate than bows and bolts should have higher speed, crossobw was just better weapon)
- New objects (mostly buldings) have bugged models, you can't use ladders to reach them
- Some ugly items added, many good looking items is still waiting (I can't understand this)
- cRPG becomes less realistic for some time

Fake announcements wich were fine, we could have adapated :
-riders don't get bumped when bumping
-pikes and longspear can block

+arrow changes the type of damage
-some sort of archery got buffed, another nerfed ( limit bodkin arrows to unusable on horseback please)
+Hit collision with objects
-Hit collision with teammates
+New items
-New helmets
+Construction sites, weapon rack (care of abuse in siege, aka dozens of construction sites and siege shield)
+Horse difficulty increased
-Unreachable problem not discussed

+ Strategus improvements (forward base, weapon rack etc.)
+ Collision improvements
+ new bow concept (but i dont know if they are balanced but i like the idea)
+ pike/longspear balance

- I feel sorry for those who get fucked in the market while they where sleeping cause of your patch.
It would totally have killed my fun if other people could trade their stuff without me even
knowing that there where some items changed. Please stop market next time you patch for some days.
Just think about that poor guy who got 2 arabians traded in right after the patch...
- I can accept that its impossible to do heirloom respec cause of market. But why dont you allow
a free skillreset after patch so everybody can keep using his stuff (for example his arabian) without wasting
millions of sp. If i was lvl 34 and had riding 6 and was fine with it and booom next patch i cant use my stuff
and if i retire/respec i lose 70+/30+million xp (probably over a month worth of gaming) i would hate you so much.

I might be a bit early with my feedback, because i've only played a few hours on the new version so far. My first impressions:
+ weapon racks!  :D
+ small siege tower
+ forward base (love the idea!)
- forward base not working yet
+ new catapult vs walls damage system
- walls not getting damaged by catapults yet

+ collision more realistic (no silly swiping through floor and walls with huge weapons, this nerf was needed!)

+ riding requirements increased
+ rider self bump removed
+ horse riding top speed bonus decreased slightly
~ horse acceleration decreased slightly
~ horse turning speed decreased slightly
(i'm probably biased)

+ new items
+ minor item price rebalances

+ much needed throwing buff

+ archery damage by arrow type

+ massive amount of irrational whine like always
+ placebo hitboxes 'nerf '

edit:

- desert horse requires riding 6? bit too much.

I have a good feeling about the new patch(es):

+ ground and wall collision
+ throwing buff
+ fast horses nerved (higher requirement) so not every lad can ride a whirlwindbeast
+ is it hitboxes? I have not noticed it very much, but if teamhits can occur more easily its not bad. It demands a more careful gaming style so "plus" if this change is real.

+/- archery change (piercing damage for every bow) Cant say if it is good. I just started archery. I feels like a buff for me, becouse also cheap bows can do pierce now.

+/- new items: some are not exactly stylish. The implementation is - lets say - not very enthusiastic, with all this still missing icons and meshes

+ The best light cavalry horses can't be used by plated Strength stackers (Arabian and Courser)
+ You can now tell when you get hit by a piercing Javelin/Jarid/T.Spear (yay for taking mass of missile into account!)
+ Turkish helmets!
+ Jump shots removed.

- Poor Desert horse is barely better than Steppe Horse, but gets treated like the Courser for reqs.
- All bows can do pierce now. Archers were doing pretty good before, was this needed?
- No cavalry mace? Skurcey even made the model for you!

cRPG Game Mechanics
+ Horse bumpers getting bumped too (although it needed tweaking so that it only happened under circumstances such as "riding too slowly", logic behind this, riding quickly means that you're bracing for the impact, you know it's going to happen, riding slowly, although not as much force is applied, you're still caught off guard, if you understand, it's a good compromise anyway)
+ (in theory) Arrows dictating the damage type for bows, not 100% sure this is a fantastic idea for game balance but I really do like what you can do with it, the logic behind this is the fact taht different arrow types should do different types of damage although I am not 100% sure that a shortbow and Masterwork Bodkin arrows should allow for the player to deal 20 piercing damage although a basic dagger does 24 piercing damage with it's stab, i'm more worried about the horse archers and horn bow users suddenly being able to deal 28 pierce while longbowmen get 34, only 6 difference for a hell of a lot of speed difference.
+ Infantry hitting into the floor and walls more effectively, it means that I won't get slashed when I think "that rock there is solid, it'll save me, I will swing instead of block, oh, I appear to have died."
+/- The hit boxes on allied infantry have been both improved and broken, nice that polearm overheads now make contact etc but not too keep on having a 92 length weapon on a right swing hitting my ally who is on my left hand side with the backswing, although it could just be me needing to get used it, otherwise i've had no problems and like this.

Equipment Models
+ Adding community made models will spark more being made.
+ Nice to see more items being added.
- Long times between adding the models
- Broken textures each time, even if you asked some members of the community to test the models were implemented corrcetly before the release, so that when the patch is released, they'd work correctly the first time, that would be brilliant.
- The moaning coupled with not adding all the textures submitted by people, just relax, they can't throw everything in at once, I know that a lot of the time everything should already have been done, but these guys do this for free, it's not their job. If it were Blizzard or something, then you can complain that it's broken! :P

Strategus
+ Siege equipment is good, some fantastic ideas well implemented, this should make for some brilliant battles in my opinion.
+ Releasing hotfixes that change the textures to what they're supposed to be and having people not download the hotfix so that they see all manner of random things.***
+ Large Siege Tower clipping means that they can pass through walls slightly, pushing enemies off the wall, well done Ramses.
- Some walls appear to have an invisible barrier where the walls go |__|__|__|. The middle sections grab arrows but allow defenders to shoot through, little annoying.

+ Longspear (Block but no overhead is fair imo)

+ Helmets! (But PLEASE add that Byzantinum kettle hat)

+ No jumpshooting (thank god)

+ Strategus! - Even if everything's not working

- Ranged armor penetration (Not only a 0.241 issue, but even more noticable with this new patch due to pierce)

- HA + Bodkins

- Armor OP in melee (srsly, people are spamming cause they can afford to, they know they won't die if it fails)

- Roofcamping not fixed

- Polestun not fixed

~ Cav changes

~ New hitboxes, object/floor collision is great, but I'm not so sure about teammates. From a realistic POV sure - but this is a game of teamwork and often there are a lot of people on the same spot. Dieing because your weapon got stuck in your teammate that you can't even see just blows imo. I'm not even sure about the overhead fix. Warband has some flunky hitboxes in general and on several occations I've tk'd friendlies when my overhead appeared to be half a meter away from them. With longspear overhead removed (which - imo - was what broke the system) - I actually think it would be better to bring back the old system.

~ Throwing buff

+object collision (hacking through doors on siege was so annoying..)
+bounce off (I want more bouncing yeah )
+stratgeus progress
-Servers still laggy (perhaps just stutdown the unused servers eu5,eu7,eu8 or try out new configurations, strat is only half the fun with those lags)
-archery buff (we need to find a way to get rid off the numbers, just too many archers)
-Shield forcefield (Huscarl) still to big
-still too many crossbows (increase prices again!)

Overall nice progress!

EDIT: What I really want to see in the future, would be the stun of arrows, related to the damage they deal. Atm I am getting stunned by arrows, who deal 0 damage, that sucks XD

+ arrow changes (opens up bows, more balance in the future probably needed but a good start)
+ throwing penetration (needed buff for the class)
+ long spear removal of overhead (until the overhead animations can be changed this is good)
+ new caps are hideous, trolly and awesome

- Reverting ability to block w/ pike and long spear
coupled with
- Reverting horse bump for rider

^ both of these worked well together; cav nerf combined with anti cav nerf.  However 1h cav got pretty screwed over, so maybe if it came back there would need to be some changes.

+katana buff
+cavalry balance
+archery balance
+jumpshot removed
+wse
+weapon rack and new strategus features
+new collision(could need a check for longest weapons like the flamberge)

-longbow being underpowered compared to rus bow
-crossbows still too accurate with low wpf, need a nerf for "crossbowers" with less than 100 wpf

edit: minus also on new hitboxes, really too much glances imo

Very mixed opinions for me. I like the new patch, but also there are aspects that I don't agree with.

+ archers got an animation nerf ~ This has been something that's been long coming to the archers. They've been doing their silly jumpshot thing too long. It's good to see a little less stupid looking things happening across the servers.

+ archers got a damage buff ~ To balance the animations out, they received a damage boost to their arrows. Personally, this doesn't affect me very much; my build and armor were initially designed post-janPatch to counteract the arrow hailstorms that used to frequent the servers. I find myself not cutting swaths through peons anymore, which should be the way this game is played anyway; with a combination of all kinds of infantry

- Cav got some kind of buff ~ I'm not sure what specific values were changed in the new patch, but they are definitely buffed in some manner. I find myself constantly #2 or #3 on the scoreboard. While I don't really care where I sit on the board, what gets me is that a cav player is ALWAYS ranking higher than me. Again, I don't have a problem with that, really, because if someone on my team is killing more of the other guys, that's great. But consistently I find the scoreboard reading obscene numbers like 45-2 for the cav players at the end of the round. I seriously find it hard to think that this is fun for the peasants and mid-grade fighters. I derp around with a long spear and butt armor, so I'm fine. I think it would be really annoying for the others who don't have a similar loadout. Again, this is a rather intangible buff, as far as I can see, but it's definitely there. Buffs are fine, I love balance. But this seems a little too much, if cavalry are decimating swaths of fighters, plate fighters, included.
NA Case studies : BADPLAYER of Chaos, Palatro's alt; BeepBeep I'm a Jeep ATS (these two characters are on opposite ends of the scale, you'll find that Baddie is a perfectly competent fighter, but Jeep is a troll character made for annoying the living crap out of people. Both score well on the leaderboards)

+ Long Spear loses its overhead ~ As a long spear user myself, I'm glad to see this weapon lose its overhead. It gets too tough to fight one of these weapons, given the range we start poking at vs the range they can hit us.

- New hitboxes ~ I cannot agree with the new hitboxes, I'm super stoked that the pikes don't magically go through teammates anymore and connect with the ground and all that, but every single weapon has gained a "lightsaber" effect; I have stabbed out multiple times with my long spear, only to have my teammate who's literally on my immediate right (not ahead of me, directly beside me) eat a full bore spear friendly-fire to the back, stumble animations and "fuck yous" abound. That, at the very least, should be a glance on my end, or better yet, a total miss because - you know - they're nowhere near the hit zone.

- No glances ~ Glance parties are over, and my playstyle with my secondary weapons (bec, axes, whatever) is changed, because part of my playstyle involves stepping into my opponents at an angle that forces a glance (while I take a full on swing at them), archers don't glance unless they're pretty much level fivers. I know there are other fighters out there who use glances in their combat style, and knowing how to force a glance has always been a benefit for my team when it gets hairy.

That's kind of everything I can think of right now. Again, I think this is an overall step in the right direction, but there are elements I may not agree with.

Oh

edit;
- Lightsaber (last minute turn for full damage) swings are still in full effect

-Team balancing is utter garbage. This is not a new problem, it's just that people totally ignore it for some reason.
-I am forced to play in dx7, and it's even laggy there, do the new items have any lods on them? Not everyone can afford a damned NPP to power his gaming needs.

+++ 1hd cav makes sense again (aka reverting the rider bumping)
+ New items
+ WSE
+ Collisions
+ No jumpshots
+ Higher requirements for fast/agile horses

+- Armor changes (more bouncing ok for pierce and blunt weapons, too much bouncing for cut damage weapons)

- Katana buff
- Some high level throwing weapons seem too strong now
- Requirements increase for heavy horses needed as well, battlefield too crowded with elephants
--- No Strat yet!

- Still no preview pictures on the site for the new Turkish equipment!
+/- New collision detection (Sometimes I love it, sometimes I think my team are the real enemies)
+ Archery change
(click to show/hide)
+/- What I like to think of as experimenting with ways to prevent riders from slicing/stabbing through their horsies to opponents
+WSE added

- Longspear losing its overhead. Unless the new overhead animations can't be applied. I see no reason too. Why wouldn't you be able to go one on one with a spear? Why should it be a support only weapon?

It makes no sense, other then to satisfy Two Handers.

- Archers got nerfed
arguable if that actually was a nerf, as now all types of bows have pierce,
i would rather give them the "unrealistic" jump/turn/shot" as it was fun for them and a move they needed to master first and reduce overall damage if they keep pierce damage through bodkins

- Cav got nerfed
there should be for every skilllevel a horse, no gaps in between
i liked that they bumped themselves but i see that 1h/cav was nearly unplayable with it, so reverting that was ok. I still would suggest that either horses get damaged slightly when they for example bump tincans, come on what Palfrey gets not a scratch when he just goes against iron and steel.

- Infantry got nerfed
ground detection ... love it, not being able to hit through friendlies ... love it, people will get used to it and therefor the fights i believe get more interesting.
Still the polestun is too harsh, either reduce the time of it or disable it completly. You could make it more depending on armor and produced damage perhaps, so those stuns are not that often produced.

- Everyone else's class got buffed
+ upkeep got reduced
+ servers less laggy
:) nothing to argue here

additional suggestions:
*reduce recovery time from crushthrough and/or make a gradual increase of the abilities of
Maul - knockdown - no chrushthrough - unbalanced
Mallet - knockdown - no chrushthrough - balanced
Great Maul - no knockdown - chrushthrough - unbalanced
long maul - knockdown - chrushthrough - balanced
*add shieldbash as special ability for shielders and remove kickslash of them(there was a whole thread of suggestions for other special moves for the other classes can't remember them all atm, second attack for archers to shoot in the sky like they did in battles in RL)
*add skill tree for xbow !!!!!!!!!
*get rid of skip the fun/respec option completly and allow players at anytime to character respec freely their characters and save special purpose builds => 1 character, no alts, no hustle, would solve soooo much whine you got with any patch and create so much fun with trying out new stuff
*respec of weapons for gold say 200k gold for any loom point you take down of a weapon and want to invest onto another one

+ Horse difficulty. Actually quite like the diversity that now brings.
+ WSE
+ New Items
+ No longspear overheads
+ New strat stuff
+ Arrow/bow damage change
+ New collisions on floor ect
+ Deli Cap

+/- Reverting the bumping the rider. Still can't make up my mind with that one

- Lack of real arrow diversity (bodkins the more obvious choice...even when considering price/ammo)
- Stronger throwing weapons
- Jumpshot removed
- xbows still way to accurate at low wpf, 0 wpf xbow accuracy should be similar to how poor 0 wpf archery is and increase in similar scales.
- Reverting blocking with pike/longspear
- Not adding all new items (I would love that turk mail shirt :( ) Get rid of some of the really horrible looking armours if needed.
- Hitting team mates more than ever on the back swing especially with spears (spear, short spear, red tassled spear)
- Desert horse being 6 riding. I can down it in 2 arrows, it's not that fast. Should be 4-5 riding max.

+ archer arrow changes
+long spear lost overhead
+horse riding requirements increased for fast horses
+strategus improvements

- swing animation now hits teammates with backswing that are ridiculously far away
-horse bump damage massively increased - needs jostling of rider added back to balance (cav is completely dominating now, i go 18-2 so easily now with cav alt)
-rider jostled when horse bumped was removed (great new feature forcing real skill)
-long spear got back blocking and still allows jump stabs with 200+ length weapon

  • The constant drastic changes, why can't you guys ever perfect a good experience. Everytime the whole battle balance of the mod gets thrown around completely, instead of fixing the little things. These drastic changes always create more imbalance than when you would have fine tuned the old experience.

IMO, this is an excellent point.

-Polestun havnt been removed
-speed of long halfted blade and glaive is still too much
-the bounce off ground shit ( i cant even kill a guy walking up a hill with an overhead, it bounces 50 cm above his head )
-new armor values
-organisation of the patches 1.40 and 1.41 with all that hotfixes and other shit ( and byzantine helmet still doesnt work )
-no heierloom changin and respec like in every other big patch before

I know you have RL and shit like that but how would you expect to do the right moves if you dont spend some time to see what`s going on at the servers and what things need to be fixed and what not.

I may be a bit too biased about cavalry being nerfed, but whatever.

As a cavalryman since the beginning days of cRPG:

+ the lance radius (yeah, that's right. I occasionally complain about it, but the idea is good. Overall, much less BS kills from horseback.)
- the lance radius (This too, only because 2hers and most other weapons can easily dismount a rider.)
- the cavalry requirement nerf (not necessary. I retired about a week ago, and I'm level 24 now. I need to be at least level 27 to use my courser again...)
- the cavalry acceleration nerf (not necessary)
+ new items (the one thing I LOVE about the updates is going into each category and seeing a few new items in each.)
- archer buff (I know, but it was just too much. As is, as cavalry it was hell surviving all the projectiles. Now it's damn near impossible. Slight buff is okay, but not allowing ALL BOWS TO HAVE PIERCE. Pretty crazy of a buff there.)
+ Xbow nerf (Thank you for decreasing the amount of xbowmen. A few less projectiles to worry about as cav now.)

In the end, the only problems I have with being cav is:
A) The requirement for the courser
B) The "not being able to take down a guy with a 100 reach weapon" system

Overall, cavalry can get kills, yes. But what type of kills? AFK, peasants, couching kills, backstabs and backcouches, and stragglers without a weapon with 100+ reach. Sorry for the last bit here, but I just felt it needed to be said.

+ horse difficulty changes
- nothing done for the poor guys that don't meet the requirements of their heirloomed horses anymore.
- I didn't played for 3 days because of this. I want to use the horse I bought 2 days before the patch, yet I can't without loosing all this hard-earned xp, so I can't comment on other changes. I thought I would simply use another one and retire, but now I play old games instead of cRPG, which allmost never happened in one year.

- I would say there was no need for xbow nerf. Xbows = high damage = slow as hell reload
So any archer can kill you.

- Archer buff (piercing). Archers were a major pain for all classes before, now you made them even deadlier...not good.

+ horse nerf

Suggestion: make a tripod feature for arbalest user, so they can't move when using it but it gives them tremendous accuracy.

Like:
+ Cav requeriments.
+ New Upkeep
+- New hitboxes (Testing and fixing it and it will be a nice improvement)
+ Coverage of shields.
+ Xbow nerf.

Dislike:
- Ladders didn't get removed from battle.
- Archers with lowtier equipment do near damage as archers with high tier equipment.
- No reason to use a longbow (Give lowtier bows lower dmg/accuracy).
- Item nerf would have a loom redistribution point. If your item is crap after nerf, no one want it, so you can't trade it for anything good.
- Longspear/Pike shouldn't block.
- Marketplace scams after patch (For example, people that lose bodkin or sold it at prepatch "values". This can be fixed deleting marketplace offers after patch).
- Soak values.
- Unfair nerfs (I don't understand how bec have 34p damage and steel pick have 32p with 99 speed).
- Polestun.

xbow users have a legitimate reason to cry about nerfs, as they know their play style, unlike people who die from them who havent played as one. archery is gay to fight since archers are now even better against xbowers.

1 other thing to say:

Archery isnt op also with this patch ,i ve played alot of gens as archer and it becomes nerfed more and more.
archers have to be a ruling class because they have only the bow and some arrows as effective weapon .They loose 95% of the melee fights.
compare this patch with the first crpg versions. Its the most nerfed class in the game.
Stop crying about it.

-Largely worthless new items and though they're historical it looks like it was done in the interest of adding the most ridiculous ones possible.
-What appears to be arbitrary 'Rebalancing' that from my point of view didn't fundamentally change anything.
-New strategus updates, cool, but strategus is down, no?
-No change-log of any sort and the update having to be re-released multiple times and then also needing hot-fixes, although I can't say how difficult it would be to circumvent such a thing.

+WSE and it's potential
~Improved collision? Really haven't had too much of a problem and this might've been a freak lag/clipping accident but I got killed by an enemy when I was behind him from the beginning of his side swing to the right.

- longbow (IMO, price decrease, make RUS bow top tier bow. Coz atm Longbow costs more but is less effective.)
- yumi bow (This bow is expensive and it's arrows fly slower than the first and second bows. IMO price decrease, or buff missile speed.)
- pole stun
- ladders in battle

+ new collision detection (makes longer weapons harder to use in Siege or other confined areas. which IMO was NEEDED, because there was no reason to choose a shorter weapon over a longer one.)
+ archery buff (love that archery is hurtful again, hate that they can bypass melee simply by hiding on a roof in battle and waiting it out.)
+ wakizashi buff (the little weaboo inside of me is content)

+/- Katana buff (IMO Katana could have used a price decrease as opposed to having it's damage buffed, then again my character was using the katana with 9 PS so maybe I wasn't effected much by it's slightly lower damage.)

Over all I think the game is moving forward, especially with the new weapon collisions, now you have to think before you swing.
thanks for the hard work you guys put into this mod, it has kept me entertained for countless hours aha.

many items that were already inferior in every way but price (prime example military scythe which was inferior to the glaive IN EVERY SINGLE WAY) got uber nerfed

Its also odd that the long voulge got changed to no side swings (completely understandable due to its length) but received no buff to its already incredibly slow and low damage overhead (also the fact that this poke weapon only has 18 pierce reinforces my thoughts on an overhead damage increase)

in my eyes this patch failed to address the lacking value of agility for anything but hybrids (even theres no reason for more than 5 wm)

A full agi character with 10 ath and 10 wm will have at most 3 ps and a little more than 180 prof and can neither wear armor or use most weapons

A full Str char with 10 ps, 10 IF, and 3 wm gets 40 points of prof less than a full agi build

thus the concept of a balanced melee character has changed to 24/15

- Attack animations are active sooner (or something, I still don't quite understand what the official term for it is).

I understand why there animation active-blah-blah-whatever-you-want-to-call-it got changed. However, I think it was unnecessary.

We can attack in a maximum of 4 directions. That was how the game developers envisioned creating a medieval combat environment. Sure, they could've gone more or less complex, but I think for the sake of playability they put in a maximum of 4 directions.

Now, with this oversimplification of attack directions, you must give concessions somewhere. And the concession was that unless you're in a really tight space, your attack might clip through things. People that know they are in crowded spaces or have friendlies around them wouldn't swing in broad directions. They would adapt their swings based on their environment. If there's a wall to the right of you, would you swing sword in a broad right swing? Of course not. Same if you had a fellow soldier to the left of you. You wouldn't try and swing through him. But since you can't ever change how you perform your attacks (from the animation point of view) you had to give something up in order to keep it fun.

Rather than continue this wall of text, in my opinion this particular change has made melee a bit more frustrating especially in large battles.

+++ Katana, finally! :D
+ Cav got nerfed
+ Archers made more interesting
+ New gear always welcome (Already saw some naked spearmen with leather shields and funny hats)

+- Polearm rear was removed, which was good, BUT effectively countering the cav nerf, making it less of a nerf.

- Cav got nerfed slightly too little because of the above. Still a little OP, but better than pre-patch
- It's harder than ever to find something to whine about
- Something fishy about archery, my lvl16 friend shot out half my life (53 body armor) with a +1 rus bow and 6 pd.. Is that normal?

Overall it's a +3 :)

Predictions for the future balance:
Archery will be reworked once again, or at least adjusted.
Cav will get another nerf, direct or indirect.

- Katana buff. It really was just a slashing sword that wasn't any better than what was in the middle east, we shouldn't be considering it to be the best slashing weapon when the Japanese never fought opponents with plate armor. If I'm wearing plate, I shouldn't die from 2-3 slashes from a katana, (Katana's can't slash through plate steal, as much as the fanboys will argue, it just wasn't possible).  The best swords should be made of damascus steal, as it was the strongest steal in history (yes, even stronger than what they were making in Japan).

- Adding 16th c. armor items to a game that's supposed to be based on MEDIEVAL combat. (i.e. the conquistador morions, Chapel de Fur, etc.) If you're going add armor from eras where muskets were an element of combat, why not just go play Fire & Sword? Why is there no cut off in terms of time periods? This isn't specific to this patch but it's reinforced with the armor chosen to add to the pool and I feel like continuing this trend really destroys the look and feel of the game. If you're going to add stuff from the 16th c., when do we start adding pirate crap?

- Since this last patch my game has been getting runtime crash errors every 2-3 rounds. It's ridiculous.

- Lack of Byzantine armor (how are you really going to add 16 c. spanish armor but ignore actual Medieval armor from the most powerful empire in the world throughout most of the medieval world until 1071? And even after that point they were still a large force to be reckoned with until the 1400s...).

+ Piece damage on Bows is more realistic.

- Archery is still too slow though, considering that medieval archers, when standing in one place, wouldn't have to reach for their quiver's every shot as they'd have their arrows in the ground in front of them to increase reload speed. The reloading quiver animation only makes sense when archers are moving / on horseback.

- It still feels like a game revolving around infantry. i.e. they're given too many unrealistic handicaps against things that would have checked their power in actual medieval battles (i.e. missile weapons were game over for infantry stupid enough to not carry a shield into battle, yet we have all these people running around spamming 2h weapons and polarms who run to the forums complaining whenever they they rightly get owned by ranged weapons. [carry a shield morons, that's why they existed].) And don't even get me started on how under powered cavalry are in this game (not even going to mention horse archers). If you're wearing full plate and get trampled by a 1500-2000 pound horse charging at 35-45 mph, you're not jumping back to your feat to immediately block an attack, you're dead or unconscious. But I guess this game isn't about making combat realistic, and I should quit complaining. Sorry if this turned into a rant. It's just that having studied history in college these kinds of things tend to bother me more than the average gamer I guess.

- I would like to see patches that make this game more realistic historically. I don't feel like this patch does enough in that regard. I'm glad to see all the active people putting effort into the game and I really appreciate it, I just would like to see a more historically accurate game is all.

- archery buff
- throwing ammo counts still weak + upon further reflection, I actually think throwing is viable and still not OP once more
- not adding in a hundred different armors regardless of era so we can have a valhalla simulator
+ keeping horsebumps
++ weapon rack
+ increased riding costs
- decreased riding costs

- for the silly looking turkish hats without other equally silly things

-new collision in melee (although i agree with some points about a reason to choose a smaller weapon over a longer one, it doesnt really affect most 2h weapons/poles, only the specialist ones. i still do ok with it but its so ANNOYING!!!
-bodkin pierce + low upkeep compared to the plate that it penetrates

+Throwing Buff
+New Weapons
+Melee Hit Detection
+More variety with archers
+2h/polearm weapon adjustments
+Devs thinking about nerfing cav (Make Horse take damage, not stun user)
+Strategus changes
+Any other change I didn't mention

-Pole stun- somewhat okay in 1v1, way too powerful in pretty much every game mode. This is coming from my point of view as a pseudo-hoplite
-Bad Map rotation- lots of maps are just not fun. I am not a fan of the hilly/plains maps, too much chaos for public fighting
-Minor gripe on item fixes: Buff long dagger, put more effort into tweaking and balancing the 2hs/polearms. Make 1h glance less when facehugging.
-Xbows (not really a complaint, just saying still don't like them)
-STR/Agility balance still not fixed, keep experimenting!

+Archery & Ammunition (-Longbow needs some love)
+WSE Polearm Overhead hit detection, implemented flawlessly.  Really impressed with that
+Riding skill rebalance
+Throwing got some love I hear

Weapon balance:
+katana/wakizashi are really cool, powerful weapons, and reflect that in game now, but:
-Katana rapes face over the longsword. I guess the katana thrust is pretty worthless in comparison though, and suffers from shorter length, so this might be justified.

+Bec De Corbin damage was a great move, still remains a considerably dangerous, high-damaging weapon.  Makes using a morningstar much more viable in terms of balance, trading high damage for short length.

-Military Scythe got destroyed.  I understand your plans for strategus, and it being a "low-tier" weapon, but dear god, it hardly serves a function anymore.  It can't unfairly swing through teammates on overheads anymore either, and its only 89 speed.  24pierce and 35cut would be fair I think, or restore it to its old stats and raise the expense.

-Long Voulge lost its function when side swings were taken.  Again, a fair strategus balance, in terms of cost, but that was the weapons only saving grace, considering its 85 speed rating.  85 speed rating is where the weapon really suffers, and i think the side swings could be brought back and still be a fair choice.

??? - The new hats are so silly.  Really out of place, but we should definitely keep the Chickacks or whatever they're called, people really like the elite plumed one, and it fits with a few of the high end dark colored scale / lamellar armors.  I'd say keep them for shits and giggles, but if you guys have a limited amount of items to implement, they really don't deserve the space.  This mod really shines in its variety of weapons.  The usefulness of the hats doesn't go much further than entertaining troll or peasant clothes.

+ bec nerfed finally.
+ WSE changes.
+ Strat changes.
+ Throwing buff.

- Horse bump bump removed.
- Attacks going through targets and not registering.
- Killing enemys/teammates clearly out of my range of attack.
- Polestun hasn't been removed/nerfed with wse.
- Cav difficulty changes.
- More useless ugly low tier gear and no usefull 5-9 weight body armor.
- No steel pick nerf.

+ Polearm overheads
+ THROWIN!
+ Removal of jump shots/nocks while keeping ability to jump in general, yay for jumping.

- Men still cannot wear dresses anymore.
- Colored hair still missing.
- Daggers/Knives need love.
- Armor looms too potent comparatively (There is no reason outside of style to loom something with Reinforced tag over Lordly, the armor bonus is too great, and loomed weapons cannot compete against loomed armor, especially with the new soak).
- Military Scythe got spanked a little too hard.
- The prices for "dress clothing" is atrocious without benefit in cRPG or strat. Maybe make wearing courtly outfits etc. give the wearer more strat gold per tick to justify the bump in pricing? All other armors are based on protection value in regards to price.
- Still no incentive to use agility over strength.

+cav requirement(every one rode a courser n then stopped at 4 riding, now riding the courser is crippling cause you get less strength)
+over hand pole arm hitting teammates
+ removing horse bump bumping rider(i played on haven server it hasnt patched, i ran a 1h over we both got bumped my swing was stopped his didnt i died.. wtf)

-game seems to be unstable, i keep getting hit before the weapon hits me, i have also been hit by the shaft of the glaive when they start the attack i am instantly hit for full damage. i seem to hit team mates who are not near me...

++++++++ Horsebump bumping rider removed
+ New items always good
+ All the strategus improvements
+ WSE

+/- Riding skill changes, I like that the courser now requires 6 riding but the arabian should only take 6 riding too and the armoured horses should also take atleast 6 riding, on NA1 now atleast 3/4 the cav are riding some sort of armoured horse and it's kinda ridiculous.

- All bows being able to do pierce damage
- Military scythe and long voulge nerfed too much
- Katana buffed
- Don't think the bec was nerfed enough
Title: Re: [Feedback] What's right/wrong with 0.241
Post by: Rogue_Eagle on September 22, 2011, 08:56:45 am
+ bodkins allowing pierce damage
+ getting rid of stupid horse bump bump
+ new items :D

- No jump shooting (more realistic, but archers don't have much in the way of tools for fighting men coming down in them since the slots came into effect.)
- Sometimes seems like archers get the majority of nerfs while 2h spammers and polearm spammers still get to flick their poles around with lightning speed and high dmg/reach.

general:
- Upkeep of some things makes it damned near impossible to build the character you want. The upkeep on horses is crippling. Needs to be some way of controlling your upkeep expenses, either by hits taken = increase chance of dmg items, or winning excludes you from paying fees or multiplier going past x5.
- no 0 slow swords.
- chadz reminds me of George lucas sometimes.

Also, Dev Paul mentioned the possibility of removing the randomness on damage.  I foresee that being a +++++ as well, if that idea gains more consideration.  A constant damage based on Velocity, Range, Weapon Damage, WPF, Enemy Armor & anotomical hit location are the only variables that should matter for the offender.

Nothing is wrong with ladders, people are the ones to blaim. However we can't educate people to leave ladders alone once they put them so only solution is to remove the ladders. Being on unreachable roof for the whole round isn't cool at all. It doesn't really matter if you're last guy or not, it gives you unfair advantage. Only dick people do that, when I was an archer I never stayed on unreachable roof longer than 10 seconds, no matter what was it start of the battle, middle or the very end.

- every archer can get piercedamage now with bodkins --> makes rusbow more overpowered than before
- archery damage was (at least for longbow) reduced. Just take all bows out of the game if you don't want people to play that class
- hitarea or whatever it's called. sideswing is doing a 240° hit or something similar. hitting someone else than teammates is almost impossible in groupfights
- good idea to do something against all that horsebumping has been removed (that doublebump wasn't a very good solution, but it was at least a step into the right direction)
- Don't know if it was intentional or just some bug, but longbow seems to have a delay again as it had before getting +2 speed

+ the new look of my little 0 slot hammer :D
+ all that siegestuff for strat, although it's not completely working atm^^

+ Deli Cap
+ Bodkins do pierce now, although I have a feeling all the whiners will get this one removed (Keep in mind, when this patch first came out people were blowing up when this was announced, and ranting about archers being OP. This was not fixed until later, so every bow did cut, even the longbow. People were getting shot by bodkins that only did 2 cut damage. People will do anything to rally against archers until we are shooting cotton ball tipped arrows)
+ Horse riding requirement change. Although I feel it was a little overboard on the desert horse (I never even see people on those things anyway), it prevents a lot of people from just stopping at 4 riding, and real lancers need more riding.
+ Jump shooting removed from bows. Yeah, I am an archer, I used to use that tactic a lot against cav that I jump dodged while loading my bow for a shot to get them as they zipped by, but it was pretty silly looking and unrealistic.
+ Long spear overhead removed.
+ Throwing armour penetration flag added. I am not a thrower, but it is nice to see that class get some love.
+ The crying. It never ends. Keep those tears flowing.
- Cost of some of the clothing has gone up. What was even the sense in this? Some shirts and dresses cost more than actual armour.
- Dress prices up, cross dressing is still banned across the land. What was wrong with a man in a dress anyway? It added some humor to the battlefield, its not like it was game breaking in any way.
- Something still needs to be done about the spinning lolstabs. I find it hard to imagine someone can spin a sudden 180 degree turn, whilst thrusting a pike/long spear/whatever at the same time. I think that any kind of turning should be disable upon thrust, or maybe even the attack gets cancelled once someone turns too much in the middle of an attack just in case they did a thrust by accident and have the choice to turn around and gtfo.

- Siege towers not removed from battle mode.
- Difficulties of horses seems less balanced.
- Destrier is still OP. Either increase the price or lower the stats.
- Map borders are invisible and thus very hard to see. I suggest they get marked with red lines or something.
- Too much night time.
- Too much rain.
- Still no "HERALDIC tunic over mail" body armour.
- Still no game balance by class (wpf would do) so that both teams get equal amount of archers and cavalry.
+ Difficulties of horses seems more realistic (the higher speed and maneuver the higher requirement).
+ Type of damage made by arrows is now decided by arrow type (makes more sense).
+ Jump shooting removed from bows.
+ Long spear overhead removed.

I'm going to include all the changes since the last major patch as ".241" items.

+Addition of WSE.
+Reduction in acceleration/maneuvering of cavalry.
+Polearm team-mate hit detection.
+Solid ground.
+Archery damage type determined by arrows rather than bow.
+Missile damage drops off with range.
+Item balance changes like the +2 swing given to the katana, -2 swing on the bec and loss of overhead attack on the long spear.
+Addition of new Turkish items.
+Jump-shooting removed from bows and crossbows.
+Thrower buff.
+Reduction in crossbow accuracy to force WPF investment. (Didn't seem to make enough of an impact on my no-crossbow-wpf two-hander though.)
+Charge damage buff.

-Removal of the rider bump for bumping cavalry.  It's fair to force cavalry to choose between lancing/slashing and bumping and it would help balance out that overpowered class a bit.
-Long Bow is now undesirable compared to the Rus bow and should be retooled.
-Ladders not prohibited in battle.
-Pole-stun not removed. (That can be done with WSE, can't it?) Polearms would be just fine without the ridiculous stun-lock.
-Change to the registration of hits.  I thought it was a good idea at first but now I lose on average 70% of my health to team mates each round (battle) where as previously it was more like 20%.  Also, I am finding it very difficult to swing even my longsword in tighter spaces like hallways; and I'm not referring to the really narrow ones.
-Wonkyness with attacks not registering properly on occasion.  I didn't have this issue prior to this patch--Most likely related to the above item.
-No reduction in the potency of 'loomed bows+arrows, crossbows+bolts or armor.
-Still no parity between STR and AGI builds.  (I think each point of athletics should be more noticeable than the last.)
-Couch damage buff. Shit was powerful enough as it was.
-"lolstab" not tweaked/fixed/removed.

+-Difficulty adjustments to horses. Needs more thinking over.  Good thought but I think it needs to be redone.
+-Doubling back on removing blocking capability from the two pikes.  Maybe it was a bit extreme...perhaps make them unbalanced instead?

Sorry cavaliere i wouldn't mind buffing cav a bit if removing this couch lance thingy which was a good feature in single player but makes no sense in multi. All attacks can be blocked in this game except slow crushthrough attacks, couch is fast and unblockable, clearly imba and pointless imo.
Seeing chase ending a round at 35-3 with war cleaver with shield, i guess no 1h buff is needed finally...Only hybrids are weak which makes sense.
I'd also love to see xbows and bows divided in 1slot-4hits, 2slot-2hits except for hs (1shot always) and reduce short range damage a litlle.
Throwing is ok as long a the 1shot throwing lances dont come back, you should only 1shot when hitting the head with any range anyways.
Just my humble view of it
Cheers

- Im no archer but when i see all them pathetic bowmen, i feel a bit of sympathy for them. God loves them, may they have a buff some time. I take that back. Killed by archers 5 times already -.-

- Horsey manouver is a bit ridiculous.

+ HELMETZ!

+ Loving the new repair, finaly can make use of my black armor and 2hs combined! :)

+ Might noticed some lesser lagz

+ Horse difficulty: a bit harsh but very well made.

Hi,
i noticed more lags, even more delayed hits. For example a cav swung at me and was after his atack meters away and suddenly i got hit. Although the swing past 1-2 seconds earlier!
And of course on duel too... its a bit unpredictable what will happen some time or other..
I guess it has to do with this bouncing thing, you touch your opponent with your sword but hit delayed

- giving everyone who keeps respeccing at 24 the ability to use plated chargers while also wearing their plate armor and top tier weapons. (maybe remove the free repairs after x respecs) I know most of this isn't a part of 0.241, but it is kinda annoying to see every horseman ride an armored horse every round, while I'm wearing light gear to compensate for the repair bill of my Danish Greatsword.

+ removing jumpshooting, chasing down archers, only to have them jump, turn around and shoot you repeatedly was getting a bit annoying to say the least.

- lady dresses being nearly as expensive as lamellar armor without any benefits of any kind (apart from distractional functions I guess...)

+ giving every bow the opportunity to deal pierce damage. all bows can be used again, instead of having everyone use a longbow. Maybe a slight overall damage nerf would be good, especially for loomed gear, but that's of lesser concern. (also, arbalests shouldn't be able 1-hit people wearing medium armor at any point in the body, but that's just my opinion)

so...my suggestion would be: blanket nerf ranged damage and give more ammo in return, so that an arrow/bolt/high tier throwing weapon doesn't deal as much or possibly more damage than a strike from a greatsword or the like. (after all, why go into melee if you can be more deadly as an archer/crossbowman)

Also, please tell me if I'm wrong about this, as I might be biased in favour of the twohanded swords(wo)man.

- Throwing OP again.
- Can't jump and shoot/reload a bow or crossbow.
- Arbalest's damage isn't nerfed.
+ Everything else good I think.

Throwing isn't OP, just annoying. On EU server we have some YIT guys who are dedicated throwers and they are quite good at it.

Well, one of them hit me with jarid and it did hurt badly (95% HP) but I was wearing peasant clothes and was an actual lvl 7 peasant...

- NO PATCH NOTES. It takes less than 15 minutes to write them, why the fuck don't they exist? Not trying to be rude, but the implementation of this patch seems pretty sloppy. I hope this isn't how every patch is released around here.

- Not sticking with medieval time period. Chichak helmets are from the 17c. FFS. Who's in charge of making sure everything is historically accurate around here? Because they're seriously failing at their job.

A disgruntled sigh, and the clap of hand to face reverberate across the forums.

everyones cav or archers coz derp derp pierce damage... can we get someone who actually plays the game to do actual balance? because you guys fucking suck, that is all

stop balancing trough upkeep, you sell 1 +3 and you have 1 mill, why would anyone worry about upkeep? doesnt matter anymore

well.. Archery shouldn't be "Viable".

It's just too easy to get kills with it and leads to overpopulation of Archers!

- Removed overhead for the long spear.

- Too much construction material needed for siege towers and big siege gear in my opinion.

+ Damage type reliant on arrows (as much as I hate archers, this does make sense).

+ Throwing weapons have extra piercing flag.

- Throwing hammers and stones don't knock people down when thrown. :-(

- Running with your weapon out is slower than with your weapon sheathed.

- Running with a polearm drawn is slower than with a 1H weapon drawn.

+ Still loving the mod.

Viable and overpowered are two different things.

Archery was completely viable before.

Now it's just stupid.

Been awhile so not sure what patch did what...

- increased silly collisions with ground, overhead obstacles etc.
- not enough agi love, STR character with 1 wpf and lots of PS still fast enough.
- wardrobe still handicapped by 88 item soft cap.
+ new stuff
+ still fun
