In all honesty I don't see how it's a case of admin abuse.  For the most part I think alot of us admins either didn't know about, or forgot about the global mute option.  Believe me it'll get used quite a bit now that I know it exists.  You weren't kicked, or banned.  Just forced to stfu for a little bit.  Isn't that actually a much better response than kicking/banning people all the time?
