Hello, I am Ecko, and all of you who said I had any type of blame were stupid, and this is me telling you this politely, like a normal individual. An entire thread, dedicated to my niceties.

They were not targeted using my site, any complaints about the issue of viewing alts. I did not simply throw away, I took into consideration deeply. I am not the sole person responsible if there was blame, I would share the blame, if hypothetically there was.

Speaking of which, I was using "Fallen_Akilina" last night on NA_2 and my stats were never recorded. Is NA_2 not tracking stats due to the server name change confusing things?

...Both used the NA stat site to find new alt characters....

Its come to my attention that some are saying that those who got hacked are doing the hacking through the NA site. Supposedly by looking up alt characters then somehow gaining access through those characters.

Some, not all, characters who have been hacked have had password protected alts, and or no alts listed on the www.nacrpg.net site. Therefore we feel is is not our responsibility for this event.  Regardless the risk in security remains.

I suggest that all players with alts make sure you have a password and do not share that password with anyone. Player and alternate name search will remain up on the www.nacrpg.net site.

So what you (ecko) are saying here is that your site did pose a serious security risk, but it's not your responsibility, because despite the fact the hackers used your site to look up alt names (which they never could have done without your site), it's the players fault for not passwording their alt. Thank god I don't play on NA servers and can just avoid the few EU servers connected to this wonderful stat tracking, hacking enabling site of yours...

With due respect, but that's bullshit.

The security issue is not the site where ppl can lookup the alts, it's the fact that everytime you log in to the game with a new name an alt is generated automatically, which will be changed with some patch, as chadz said.
As long as not both, the username and the password, are confidential (which isn't the case here, because the login name is the same as the character's name) a list of usernames must not be enough to enable someone to hack into one's account.

So the security breach is/was the automated generation of (edit: unprotected!) alts, the stats-page only made it a bit easier. Unsecure passwords and social engineering are threats that are always present, though.
