Rise of Nations was my favorite back in the day.  Much like Civilization but real-time and way more fast paced.  AoE and EE were the shit back then too, I remember finding like the full Empire Earth collection at a thrift store for like 99 cents, probably still have the discs somewhere.

No RTS can compare to the Europa Universalis, Crusader Kings, and Victoria series. I have PDX Grand Strategy 4 Lyfe tattooed on my face. Stellaris is a fantastic game as well, make the 4x space strategy genre great again.

Paradox Development is Sweden's one redeemable quality imo
