Aw yis. EE was and still is the shit. 2nd best rts ever, a close second to bfme2 imo, even though they are both so different you can hardly compare them.

But mang I'm liking EE. Just gotta remember how I set up my old civs. There's also art of conquest but I dont really see a difference beyond an extra age. Which I never play anyway since I stop around medieval/renaissance cuz melee over ranged fights ftw.

The space age is kinda cool, added some other maps and such where you play on 2D "planets" and you have outer space in between you and other worlds (space is treated as the ocean 2.0 basically). It was pretty cheesy but allowed for an additional layer of "let me conquer everyone on my island, then get boats and conquer everyone on this planet, then get ships and conquer the solar system." But yah, yet another age simply means you have to invest more time into a single campaign instead of just playing up til the medieval era and calling it a day. Not to mention nukes are simply OP and kinda ruin the fun. Then mechs come along though, and theyre pretty sweet. Since I had the expansion I always played it, and if I wanted to go all the way to the space age, so be it. If not I think it gave like 1 extra unit per age prior to that point, so it provided a little bit of added fun.

Really, it just kinda depends what games you grew up with, as none of them hold up all too well nowadays. They will undoubtedly be fun to go back to if you played them years ago, but I tried the HD remaster of AoE2 and was severely disappointed after hearing it be so hyped by everyone who grew up with it.

I grew up with AoE II: AoK and AoC, and the biggest allure of that for me was the incredibly active scenario community. Hundreds of single player epics with thousands of triggers, fun multiplayer "bloods" and shit like that, plus the base game on top. Aok.heavengames.com was the shit back in the day and I downloaded hundreds of tiny less than a MB maps that took hours to do on my 28.8k modem lol.

By the time the next gen of games came out, BFE, etc. I didn't have the interest anymore. But I'm an old fart by gamer standards.

Its still pretty fun but its definitely different from EE. EE you have spots of iron, gold, etc just like AoE but they last fucking forever so you can basically throw army after army at people and not really worry about their cost (opportunity cost sure but not resources). AoE you run out very quickly and if a game lasts too long you are completely reliant on trade to fill out your army which means even a temporary disruption of trade can devastate you and end your game.

EE is a longer game than AoE. Different niches of RTS.
