I'm in the market for upgrading to a new monitor now, which will then give me an excuse to upgrade my video card! Then I can impress the ladies...
I've probably spent 4+ hours already researching monitors that I think would be a nice fit, but I can't narrow down my search to that lucky winner for the life of me...
Once again I turn to the impeccable knowledge database that is this forum board.

This is my current monitor:
Samsung Syncmaster SA550 27 inch... 1920x1080, 2ms response time... and refresh rate is 60hz (I think...) I'm also pretty sure its a TN panel.

Also to note my current Video card is a NVidia GTX 770 2gb, and I plan on upgrading within the next few months... probably to a GTX 960 4gb.

I'm upgrading monitor basically just for gaming... predominately on PC, but might plug a console into it as well somewhere down the line.
As for games I play all types including fast paced fps.

Anyone got any of these monitors or upgraded to something similar??
Anyone recently make the change from 60z to 120hz+ monitor or from 1920x1080 to 2560x1440???
I'm just trying to convince myself I'm not wasting money by spending $300-$500 on a monitor then probably another $250-$400 on a new beefy gpu.

Get the $380 BenQ and buy a better graphics card than a 960. That's just my personal preference, personally while I think those higher res monitors are great, I don't think it's necessary to achieve fantastic visuals. Maybe my eyes suck, but games look good enough to me on 1080p maxed out, plus I feel if you get a 960 it wont be long before you're struggling to run games at 2560x1440 on max settings. Where as on the other hand, a better graphics card, like at least a 970 4gb, will have you running games on good settings at 1080p for a lot longer.

Of course this is all my own opinion, I am sure others will differ.

I'd suggest not going 1440p with a 960, it'll run most games on medium.

Be aware of bleeding in IPS panels.

I'd go 144hz 1080p if you're getting a 960.

Thanks for input, How much do you think I would have to spend on GPU to run games @ high to ultra settings in 2560x1440 and still get an average of like 75fps+?
2k resolution looks so nice not only for the graphics but the increased field of view I've seen in side by side comparison to 1080's.

Yes I've noticed a lot of people complaining about bleeding on the rog swifts manufactuered in 2015...
One guy bought one in 2014 and it was great, and he bought another, same model and everything and it had very bad bleeding effects on the corners of the screen... He RMA'd 4 times and every time he got one with same bleeding effect. He took a picture of both monitors side by side and the difference was completely noticeable, the one with bleeding looked terrible. I would definitely not want that.

The difference between 60hz and 144hz is like night and day. Impossible to go back to 60hz after you've tried 120hz+.

You can game comfortably with a single GTX760 on a 1440p monitor. I did it for quite some time. Just don't be surprised to make a few sacrifices (but not half as much as you'd think to be honest). Overall, better resolution often beats higher detail.

I actually have the ROG Swift pg278q. As far as I know it is a TN panel, but I'm colorblind so I really do not give a shit about color fidelity. Bad viewing angles associated with TN panels are a non-issue, I don't know about you but I rarely do my morning routine while looking at my PC screen. Going 144Hz is a good choice. I think screen refresh rates will probably continue to increase as we're still far from a point where there is no visible difference between moving real objects in front of the screen and moving an image being rendered. I'm extremely happy with it to be honest. G-sync also offers large improvements over vsync, but today there is no point paying the premium for G-Sync over FreeSync unless you absolutely want to buy an Nvidia card. The only issue I have with the Swift is that it has been packaged with a crappy AC adapter: https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?55509-PG278Q-turning-back-on-by-itself. Not sure if this issue still exists in production.

I had a 60Hz 1080p monitor before and this is probably the best upgrade I've made in the last two years.

You know that monitor was actually in my top 5 choices before I narrowed it down some... It is very affordable, but what really caught my eye was that it ranks #2 on displaylag.com's input lag ranking chart!

How is it with like ghosting/blurring during fast FPS'ers like a battlefield or call of duty type game?
I think I narrowed it out of my choices because the 60hz and especially the 5ms response time seemed like it would be a downgrade from my current monitor even if the input lag was much less.

Option 1: Keep your 770, upgrade to the most bad ass monitor (1440p/144hz/Gsync/Etc) and upgrade the video card when you can. You can easily resell your 770 for a future upgrade.

Option 2: Go with the BenQ 144hz monitor, spend the rest of your budget to upgrading to a higher tier videocard. You set your budget up to 670 dollars

Go with the 144hz BenQ monitor. I've ordered mine (XL2411Z), still waiting for it. Only 1 supplier for my shit country, been waiting for over a month ;_;

I kept hearing the difference is huge between 60hz and 144hz, so that's why I ordered it. Not the best color apparently (TN panels..), but worth it due to refresh rate.

Yeah, unless when it comes to some specific modern games with very high VRAM requirements it won't make much of a difference really. Upgrading from a 770 ideally you want to get a 980 to make a real jump forward. And at that price point, an AMD card might be the better option currently. That said I still think you should get a 1440p 144Hz monitor first and think about the GPU afterwards.

No, it's not a huge upgrade performance-wise.

It's only worth it if you know that you need 4GB of vram for something. Which might be a requirement for games a couple years down the line, but now that's still 2GB.
