Splitting wood is very satisfying. We tend to just split it and stack it and tarp it right there at our camp as well though. Considering building a little covered area for stacking wood this season though.
Family backyard used to be choke full of wood stuff : from rotten old stumps/branches to fairly healthy intertwined trees, all packed bulldozer-like at the back end. It was the result of like 30 years of lazyness, and it looked more and more like a Herculean task.
I always liked simple woodworking but from a distance. One day I said "fuck it, gonna clear this fucker myself, and put the abandoned fireplace to good use".
It took like 2 and a half years of going back at it 2/3 times a month but by the end of it god I loved splitting/stacking/drying/burning wood. I wish my place had a fireplace now that there is nothing else to clear/burn. I have now gained the trait pyromaniac.
