These two aren't ordinary characters, they are political statement. Strong female character and black skinned sidekick (or its other way around, not sure about that). Neither of them would be an issue if they had anything else going for them. They are typical Disney muppets you can see in any show on Disney television.
And don't bring Lando into this. Billy Dee Williams is incredibly charismatic, he doesn't deserve to be put into same sentence with John Boyega. Boyega's biggest quality is that he sometimes looks a bit like Denzel Washington. But he's far from it. And for some reason he has that stupid look on his face in every scene I've seen so far in Force Awakens trailers.
Rogue One will have Forest Whittaker. He isn't young anymore, but he's one of the best black actors in history. No one will question that choice or saying how they put him in the film just because he's black.
Maybe I'm completely wrong and Boyega proves to be great actor but highly doubt he'll show any of that under JJ Abrams and in fucking Star Wars movie. Actually I wish he gets big, because it seems that recently there isn't many young and promising black actors like we had in the past few decades.
