Why would a game be in Windows.old anyway?

Most stuff i had pre-upgrade was put in windows.old, like all the games.

Isn't the old "program files" folder in there too?

Nope. Mine remained where they were. I deleted that folder after a couple of days. Nothing lost.

I gave Edge a fair chance but as it is it's just too retarded. New tab defaults cursor focus to that fucking search thing instead of the address bar, and on top of that you have to click twice to start typing in it...

Not to mention you can't change download folder without changing the damn registry.

Yea, tried it at the beginning too but there is just too much lacking atm compared to my favourite Firefox.
Edge is fairly quick and style-wise I like it too but features are missing.

One big thing for me is the lack of 'dynamic bookmarks' - the possibility to have rss feeds as drop-down list is awesome and for me personally a killer feature.

I had the opportunity to test W10 on my brother's computer last week and it responded to everything quite faster than my current Win 7. I really liked that and to be honest, I am already kind of sold. Still I wanted to ask you guys one last time:

Should I take the nose dive into this? Will I, if I do take the step forward, have the means to get rid of at least some of the privacy concerns (yeah, I know Google etc. does it and we all lose our minds when Windows does the same)? I would just like to hear what you guys have to say, now that some of you have already been using it for a while.

You can disable most data collection in the settings.

"Responded to everything quite faster" is weird though. Windows 7 is not slow by any means even on shit machines. Are you sure it wasn't the fresh OS installation that was the reason everything responded faster? If so you can just clean up the garbage on your computer, or perhaps even format the hd and do a new installation with Win7 (or 10).

Win 7 is indeed not slow. Not at all. I just noticed that prefetching (not really sure this is the correct term) was a lot better on 10. That may just be me liking the looks of it and falsely feeling that way though.

Microsoft is kinda dumb for not going into full scale war while they have the chance. Their business, no matter how hard they tried to grow it, isn't advertising. That is Google's turf. And best way to hurt Google who tries to hurt you back all the time, is to implement state-of-the-art ad blocking software right into Windows 10. Many companies would be pissed, but who gives a shit if they are nothing but peons of huge Google's ad machine.

That is exactly what I would do if I was in Nadella's place. Google is now in very vulnerable state because Android development, their golden goose, is stagnating big time.

Instead they are trying to mimic Google with tracking and selling adds where theylll will never be as successful, that way alienating their customers.

Lately I've been impressed with the direction Apple has been taking. And coming from me, that means something. If anything, the absence of an ad blocker in Edge seems to be the whole point.

Is that a typo? You wanted to say Microsoft instead of Apple, right?

I'm not sure do I like their direction. On mobile they started by copying iOS, now they are trying to earn money same way Android does. They are just a follower and I'm not fan of copycats. Also, whole Windows universal apps idea has been blatantly copied from Canonical.

Still waiting for massive breakthrough in software usage, we are kinda in some form of slump for decades. Nothing fundamentally changed or improved.

I don't mind people copying good ideas as long as the implementation is good too. What I meant is that Apple has been doing a real effort towards actual privacy at least when it comes to some mobile functionalities.
