I wouldn't say it's vain or egotistic, maybe a little but if i'm going to spend time working out and trying to stay healthy which is what a whole lot of people are doing nowadays, then i have the right to feel a sense of accomplishment.

In the Olympics when someone wins a gold medal, do you call them vain when they have pictures with their gold medal? no it's just them achieving something and being proud of it.

That goes with everything in life. What's with all these depressing comments..jesus..

I'm sorry mate but it really is not the same, if you were doing weights to help you at your chosen sport fairplay. Total respect for that because real athletes like endurance competetiors, like swimmers, runners and skiers need weights to give them the edge. But if you are doing weights to "look better" and feel more confidant about picking up girls that is as vain as you can get. Seriously you don't need to follow the sheeple, not all girls give a shit about how big your bicep is lol (albeit many do because they are just as vain). If you want to feel a strong independent minded Male, don't follow the commercialisation of all this gym bullcrap. Get outside, do body weight stuff, some real physical work like building dry stone walls or something if you want to get strong.

While I see where you're coming from about "not following the sheeple" (you really played that one straight), lifting 'for girls' as they say is better than being a couch potato.
Women cannot be autistic, because that implies otherwise well functioning brain to be impaired in some way. We know that women posses no such thing.

What's wrong with going to the gym to look better? And what's wrong with a need to boost your self confidence by looking good, healthy and muscular? Buying nice clothes and going to the hairdresser makes you vain as well?

Seriously you don't need to follow the sheeple, not all girls give a shit about how big your bicep is lol (albeit many do because they are just as vain).

If a girl cares about man's look she's vain. If a man cares about his look he's vain as well (and gay). But when all men chase hot chicks, not the ugly ones, that's okay! Logic  And please, don't say that only vain men want to fuck hot chicks, because that's untrue. Appearance matters, period.

If you want to feel a strong independent minded Male, don't follow the commercialisation of all this gym bullcrap.

Don't see how being a skinny hipster is gonna make me "a strong independent minded Male". And I'm rather skinny myself, definitely not very muscular and never have been at gym

How do you know Saxon, me or anyone you don't personally know lifts for looks, to feel more confidant or to "impress girls" or anything similar?
I for my part don't. When I started going to the gym many years ago it was because a good friend and I were quitting the aikido-club we were part of for many years in our later childhood/early teens. He already was member in our local gym through his parents, and I said: Ok, you like sport, you want to do something healthy, and why not enter the gym and look what you can do there?.
And here I am.
Also, I'm not doing 'bodybuilding', more like powerlifting. I'm trying to push my strenght a bit more in every single session and my very focus lies on the 4 big basic exercises. Of course I am doing extra exercises for arms, abs and shoulders, but that isn't my focus.
I do what I do so I can write that 1 more rep or 2,5 more kg's in my book and be satisfied with myself. Good looks is the second part, that practically comes alone if your training and your nutrition is somewhat right.
I won't deny that in my very early gym-time (when I was like 15-17 years old) one thought connected to the gym always was "Oh, when you have muscles, gurls will like you better bruh". But well, that's long ago, and I don't think any male older than 18 in the gym thinks like that, and if, he's mentally retarded anyway.

People really react this harsh just to the thought of people wanting big biceps, and wanting to show them? Even in a harmless competition like this. Im still surprised people care so much what others decide to do in their spare time.

Someone in game thought the idea of going to the gym was weird, when you could be practicing muay thai which is usefull for defending your Mother (kek). While not realising hes playing a video game which is nearly a 100% time waster. He could be taking language courses or something.

Buddy of mine is competitive rower for 18 years now.
Never did any real gym traning, looks skinny as fuck, no huge biceps...

...and still I am very confident that he'll arm wrestle every single one of you people in seconds, with all your air in your arms  8-)

That's why I think that "hitting the gym yo" is silly. I've seen people breathing hard while carrying some table water bottles across the parking place with upper arms like legs. Do some real sports instead of hiding in some gym, doing exercises all alone and still claiming you're better than some coach dweller sitting there all alone. :P

But, whatever rocks your boat I guess. I still think it's silly.

Why does it have to have a use beyond looking good (subjective but still)? Tons of things we do are of less use yet some catch more flak for some reason.

I lift (I want to say)infrequently to maintain a lean, cut look, but plenty of my friends go the heavy body building look because its a great go-to for young men who aren't very interesting. But really, what's so wrong with lifting for vanity? Isn't that why we do anything at all? To feel more comfortable about or improve ourselves? If you aren't trying to improve yourself, you're pretty much a waste of space.
This is very true, also the same reason people buy expensive and fashionable clothes.
