Wow, this thread is maximum surprising for me. After watching a few dev videos I had the idea that this would be another "build the city of your dreams" gay kindergarden bullshit.

Is there some actual depth to the management aspect? Is it actually possible to fail to balance the budget correctly etc.?

My first game

Great city builder. Don't know how fun it will be long term though, like a lot of sandbox games without scenarios. This has to have the best mass transport implementation system though, so easy and non-fiddly

Not really. There's not much to managing your budget and such (even though there's a lot of policies and shit like that), the biggest challenge in this game is establishing a proper traffic system, as Lennu said. There are however mods that make the game harder apparently.

Haven't bought a city builder since the old SimCity games, before EA completely ruined that series.  Will I enjoy this?

It feels like an oldschool city builder like Sim City 3000 more than anything else. Its just a straight city builder without the "world" or region aspect you get in SimCity 4, SimCity 2013 or Cities XL. I think the region aspec from other games can add to longevity, but I don't think you lose much and you can simulate regions with districts to some extent

I like it but haven't played that long yet. Didn't really have any issue with budget and haven't touched taxes yet. Only thing was getting a lot of traffic but the mass transport is really well implemented, so have dealt with that pretty much. Still quite a smallish city though atm

I failed in my like first 3 tries cuz I wasn't really aware what gets unlocked next and where I should put stuff.
Still, gonna restart this one too since I screwed several streets.

And yea, public transport is great. Creating lines for bus and metro works awesome.

There's a mod which does that.

Molly is your PC any decent? Because it looks like you have tons of the blur shit enabled which you can disable in the graphics menu.

Everything is maxed out. That screen is taken with a camera mod and scaled down by imgur so it fit in here. Both might screen with the view a little.

btw... Since you can't have achievements with mods enabled, somebody made a mod that allows achievements while using mods x)
Just FYI
