Chivalry? This looks like it has higher skill ceiling and depth than Warband. Awesome, fluid animations, decapitations, physics, graphics, overall look. Have to try it first but looks like they've perfectly nailed Blade of Darkness vibe.

With gameplay this quick and intense, directional combat isn't necessary.

Well, before I got a closer look I thought it was an alpha of chivalry or smth like that. Still it has a chivalry feel.

btw I stumbled on it when trying to find Melee videos that were not from the ofc channel

Well, fuck this game if I my name is taken before launch. You can tell it's not me Dupre by the fact that imposter got his ass handed to him.

On a more serious note, I still can't stand any "warband style" game that is in first person. It just doesn't transition well, in my opinion. FPS games work, because all you do with a gun in real life is aim down the sights, line up your shot, and pull the trigger. In sword fighting and melee combat in general half the battle is knowing your surroundings, working to best position your body, etc. It encompasses a lot more than just what is in your hands and what you see directly in front of you. With a third person game, you get the added boost of pseudo-peripheral vision, which is key in a melee fight. Not to mention you get a better view of where you and your opponent are positioned, the sort of things that you just kind of "know" when involved in such a scenario in real life. I just don't feel like you can get the same sense of immersion, as counter-intuitive as this may seem, with first person as you can with 3rd person. I only watched the first few minutes or so, but during that time the guy zoomed out (very far) to a 3rd person view... I wonder if this is something they will implement, similar to the view toggle in warband, or you guys think it just serves a function similar to the ~ key in warband?

Currently, the game looks like a half-warband half-chivalry mash up. Combat looks pretty fluid compared to warband, that's a definite, but I hope it shapes up and gets 3rd person view added. Also... those floating arms in first person view, as if first person wasn't bad enough already...

Looks very much like warband combat, just in forced firstperson. Kicks are similar, block timings and attacks seem basically the same. Animations look decently similar. Seems good but i dont like firstperson at all.

Started looking, seems very good, then got to the point where you can disarm/get disarmed mid fight... Why on earth would they add that?

Definitely dislike first person, but this looks very solid. Good animations. If Melee didn't change their focus to Epic this would be a huge competitor.

Because it actually happens a lot in those kind of fights. For crying out loud, we have nudge in cRPG. We shouldn't complain about disarming while we have a move that no one ever dared to use in sword fight (at least not in a way that is designed to work in cRPG).

Based on what I've seen in this video, this game has something Souls games have and Warband severely lacks. Hits have punchy feeling, you can feel that they are wielding big ass swords. In Warband that is emulated with slowish animation for big weapons, but there is no feel that you are hitting with a big ass something (other than sounds). Also they obviously improved movement animations in these two videos posted (december-february). Both weapon animations and movement look way better than what I am seeing in Melee. If Donkey Crew could get their animation to this level, they'll have a winner.

I am pretty sure I even saw a chamber attack there, which is not bad. Still, I am not sure if those blocks are directional too. Looks like it is the Chivalry blocking system. It will suck if that is the case.

But its probably going to be either random which would suck, or under certain circumstances, which will make those strategies very strong. I don't doubt it is realistic, but I don't think it will be good for the gameplay. I hope I am wrong though and it's done in a decent way

While warband lacks the feeling of hitting something, it makes up for it by feeling arcadey and fluent. I do like feeling like im packing a punch though, which could be a thing going for this game. Animations look decent, i mean the thrust is just like native 2h thrust. If the gameplay is lacking animations wont make up for it. We'll see, might try it out at some point...
