NEW YEARS RESOLUTION BUMP

ok not really a new years resolution since I joined the gym mid december, but I've been starting to visit it again after about 2 years of not doing much

muh biceps game is weak

My current 3-day routine is split like this:
- Pull (biceps, back)
- Push (chest, shoulders, triceps)
- Lower body (legs overall, think im gonna fit in abs here as well)

I do 15 minute cardio/running before and after exercise, so 30 minutes overall per gym visit, with the lifting going on for about an hour (so 1 hour 30 minutes total gym session). 3 sets per exercise, up to 12 repetitions (will sometimes do less repetitions on heavier weights for strength gain). Plan is to gain strength and muscle while also losing some body fat. I think my routine is pretty well adjusted for that, but I'm open to any suggestions.

Also not entirely sure where to fit in deadlifts, I guess pull day? I heard deadlifts are like the alah of gym visitors.

Squats and deadlifts are so good at making you lose weight / lower body fat % because your legs muscles are the largest ones in your body. Bigger muscle = move more weight for same effort = more calories burned. There's more to it than that but that's the basic idea why leg day rules and is skipped by fools. Leg press machine is good alternative if you are worried about having bad form or injuring yourself.

I'd also recommend going for an extended cardio session rather than splitting it apart. Not for more efficient exercise or better health or anything. Just because the runner's high is real. Whip yourself into a trance as you perform fictitious travel. Feels good man.

Just do 15 mins HIIT, save the messing about of before/after

You shouldn't do cardio before and after lifting fam, do it on a different day preferably and if that's not possible then do it like a couple of hours after lifting.

two most important things are consistency and real effort mate.  feel free to post here if you should have a hard time with that,  we will gladly call you names until you drag your ugly ass back to the gym : )

here,  have a side dish of motivation ^^:

Yes, I know from whence I came! Discontented as a flame, Upon myself I live and glow. All I grasp like lightning flashes, All I leave behind is ashes
Flame I am - that much I know!

How so? I mean what's the reason for it. Tbh this cardio is meant more like a warmup and cooldown thingy, thus before and after and just so I run a bit, I'm not really regarding it as an intense cardio session.

1. I know what Xant means, and in general cardio directly before or after weightlifting is not beneficial for muscle growth and regeneration, while light 30-60 minutes of cardio at the "no workout" days is beneficial for regenration.

But it's totally fine to do 15 minutes of light cardio before and/or after a workout, as long as it really is light and short.

I personally only do 5-10 minutes "cardio" to warm up the whole body before my workout, then rotator cuffs with stretch bands and local/muscle specific warm up with light weights. In total not more than 15 minutes of warming up. 45-60 minutes of light cardio a week, sometimes less, depending on time and whim.

2. A 3 day split is only a thing for intermediate lifters/bodybuilders with advanced strenght and some experience.
Also a 3 day split would mean at least 5, preferably 6 workouts per week, which is pretty heavy and only doable by advanced gym goers, if optimal muscle and strenght growth is your goal.

If you just want to get in shape and get/stay fit a 3 day split with only 3 workouts per week is fine, but you won't make any noticable strenght or muscle gains after getting the "noob gainz", because the frequency is way to low.

Protein-bio-synthesis only lasts between 24 and 72 hours after hitting your muscles, so for getting otpimal strenght and muscle gains a 2 day split with 4 workouts per week (A B A B ) is the optimum for intermediate lifters, total beginners should always start with a whole body workout 3 times a week.
