Seems inaccurate. There is no way Malaysia would be higher than Singapore in English proficiency. Just sayin'.

Haha, must've been a pretty funny scenario. Awkward for the teacher, especially.
Meaning lies as much
in the mind of the reader
as in the Haiku.

A 9th grade English class I once taught had an English exchange student who spoke this pretty horrible Cockney-ish, lower class teenage girl dialect/sociolect, and I could hardly understand a single word she said as I was supposed to have a conversation with the girl, who mostly reminded me of a Little Britain caricature, in front of the class without making too much of a fool of either of us, especially her as she was new in the class and in the country, and a kid besides. Felt like a good time to teach the students about dialects.

It did need to be do.

France being on the 35th spot and under China (!), Russia (!), Sri Lanka (!!!!!) and other random countries just proves 1 of these things. Either France still hates Brits and the English language because now the Brits language is the official language of the world and they don't want to learn it or well...there's no other reasons.

With a rich local culture, not importing excessively of foreign cultures is not an entirely bad policy. Turn on the TV and don't tell me you aren't drowning in American television in Sweden.

I'm not surprised that  Germanic-speaking countries are in  1st positions ( Sweden, Netherlands, Denmark etcc...), if i had studied French or any other Neo-Latin language at school, i guess nowadays i would probably have a solid B2  or higher level in that language.

As for the non Germanic-speaking countries in the 1st positions, i think one of the reasons  is probably because  movies-shows are not dubbed in native language, like Finland for example, when i visited Finland i remember every British-American tv show was subtitled, not dubbed ( probably  the subtitles were optional, just a tv setting,  i don't  remember), and i think it's the same for movies .

It's a shame i didn't choose to study German at school, nowadays German it's mandatory where i live, not a choice anymore. I'm trying to remedy my mistake, i started studying German  2 weeks ago.

Probably not as your exposure to English is much greater than the exposure to for example French, even if you are from Italy(?). As a Dutch guy I am fairly sure it is the constant exposure to non-dubbed or untranslated English media from a very young age that teaches us English, the similarity between the languages and the school curriculum would hardly amount to anything without it.

With a rich local culture, not importing excessively of foreign cultures is not an entirely bad policy. Turn on the TV and don't tell me you aren't drowning in American television in Sweden.
The sooner everybody just sticks their dumb nationalistic pride up their ass and starts learning English aside their native tongue, the better. There's really not that much to lose and there is so much to gain.

I agree. Which is why I wrote 'not entirely'. Besides being lingua franca in much of the world I also happen to like the English language.

You mean the one 'muricans can't speak due to an abysmal education system.  There's the unchecked immigration to consider as well.

English as a second language by 2020, calling it

I barely watch any TV at all nowadays.

Also i'm not stuck in the medieval times and for the record i piss on nationalism. Just sayin. Not that it would be relevant to your comment at all however.
