Thanks for the tips Jona! My 2h is still like 5mil from retiring, so it'll be a while before I'm riding around on NA1 again.

For my STF I just split WPF between 1h and pole, which is probably what I'd do for real. Although it doesn't seem like polearm wpf has any meaningful impact on couching, so maybe I'd just go full 1h and use a colored lance.

I do see the potential for more fun on Battle with cav than I have as infantry. Infantry on Battle just seems so one-dimensional; run around with a clump of teammates, gangbang stragglers while trying to avoid cav. Or more often, be the one getting gangbanged. Cav seem to be playing their own metagame where the fun factor is less at the mercy of the autobalancer (even if your multi is still dependent on autobalance).

For me the only fun that comes from battle is being part of a banner stack and then coordinating in TS. We usually act as a squad and fight on our own holding down the rest of our team's flank, or trying to outmaneuver the enemy, or charging their ranged nest if it is a problem for our team, and so on. I agree that going solo in battle is more often than not very boring. You either stay as part of the gank squad or you try and have some fun using tactics and such, only to get ganked since you went off on your own. Not to mention that when off on your own those metagaming cav players pick you out as a nice bully-able target. Honestly Phew, the guys in your clan are pretty cool... you should pop into TS once in a while and coordinate in NA1. I was never much of a TS guy at first but it makes the mod actually playable. And heck, if your clan isn't online when you are, you should check into some other clans' TS's. Most of us don't bite. 

Oh, and I think the only noticeable effect that polearm wpf has on couching is that you get a small increase in damage (as you would with any type of melee weapon). MAYBE it affects the time it takes to lower or raise your lance... no idea.

Cool, thanks. I would like to practice couch jousting until it's a 50/50 proposition, and I haven't pulled off a bumpslash yet. I need to retire this 2h guy first though.

Here Phew this is pretty good read. http://forum.melee.org/beginner's-help-and-guides/guide-to-lancer-cavalry-for-newbies/msg1049576/#msg1049576 I'm sure you know some of this already, but it's a good guide. The only thing he doesn't really include are cav vs cav maneuvers for dueling enemy cav.

Examples:

When being chased by cav that is faster than you or tailing you close, try using the horse rear button to instant stop and make them ride past you. Make sure they aren't directly behind you,  and make sure they don't have a swing held waiting for you to stop.

When dueling cav head on the stab thrust of lance is almost always better than couch. Stabbing gives you extra reach and with good timing will outreach a couch with the weapon of same length.

When dueling cav or infantry head on, don't charge in at max speed. Most people are expecting full speed charge for max dmg. However, switching up your speed before going in to attack can throw off your opponent. Think of your W and S keys as the throttle for your horse. Approach the enemy at half speed or 3/4 then throttle up to max speed right before you make close.

Just some more tips I have learned.

If this minimum multiplier of x2 for Conquest revives siege, I'll just play my main. I just wanted an alt that's fun for battle, and even a gimped cav seems like it would be more fun on battle than 1h.

2D pole is my fallback option if cav doesn't work out; swiss+spear+shield (or swiss+war spear+buckler) seems like an OP loadout that wouldn't have a weakness.

I'd almost be willing to put up with a purple boner bear on my banner if I meant I didn't have to face Gallo and his maddening combination of kick spams and one-shotting overheads. So I feel ya.

I'm assuming you meant 1hit-KO or something, but for the longest time I was reading it as 1hand overheads... and I thought you were talking about Phew at first to which I mentally said "yep, I agree. They are definitely quite tricky (and fast)." Then I read the quote and realized you were talking about gallon. Then I knew you meant 1-hit. I was hoping that ever since maxing out my build with 6 IF I would be able to take more hits from him, but I am still lucky to live past the first. One the rare occasion speed bonus works severely in my favor, and I live past the second hit, I am so shocked I don't even see the 3rd hit coming.
