Rift (is it worth?)

I'm looking for a F2P game that isn't to P2W - Considering that my group may include up to 20 people, I figured an MMO is probably a strong way to go. So, is Rift a good option?

I'll add a poll.

From what I saw and read, it looks really good and has a very good rating on GameStar, the first source for game reviews in Germany.
Cash-shop ala Guild Wars 2, gameplay/story/world similar to WoW, free2play users don't have any or at least only very small restrictions.

People who like 'high-fantasy' MMRPG's should like it.

Although I normally don't like 'high-fantasy' MMORPG's (Played severals chars till maxlevel in Guild Wars 1 with a RL friend tho) I will check it out now, maybe I can play it with some RL friends aswell

I'm fine with the fantasy stuff, I can get into good lore - I'm just hoping the game is enjoyable.

It's like WoW in terms of gameplay, only F2P with one of the most fair cash shops, people say. I wouldn't worry about it being pay2win.

I played it till something around lvl 20. Was quite funny, beginning is bit sophisticated tho, but if you want a free2play game, it's awesome. Still played by a few people, fighting system'n'spells are funny,(I'm a mage) and the map is huge!
Go play it buddy, it is f2p anyway so what can you regret if you install it?!

i had really good fun the 1-1½ year i played it. good encounters, nice bosses, fun pvp. THIS is actually one of the MMOs where we can argue WoW ripoff :) i still rather play rift than wow though. i liked the skill trees and the way specs work. i think the pvp is really balanced considered what it is.

also lols to be had in Fallen Earth, F2P sandbox

FireFall is another F2P i enjoyed playing. Its FPS MMO (with jetpacks!)

The boss fights in dungeons were challenging and very very difficult at times. Was VERY fun while I played it(half the world firsts in my server. Yay!)

Nowadays? Not sure. Haven't played since the release of river of souls / people still werent able to down Greenscale(1st raid boss)

I preordered RIFT cuz of it's unique class system. Played it for 2 weeks then quit because:

-It has the worst UI i've ever seen in any kind of game. Too ugly
-Classes were terribly unbalanced. Mages were better healers than clerics and clerics (Inquisitor based) were invulnerable DPS machines.

If you don't mind seeing heavyily armed warriors dealing more ranged than your ranger
Assassins tanking better than your heavily armed warrior
Mages healing better than your healer
Healers dealing more damage than your mage

Go for it.
It was fun but too absurd i couldn't adapt by breaking down my stereotypical mmorpg classes. PvP server was hell of a fun though. It has some unique classes aswell. Didn't know it went F2P so i really dunno what happened to the game :D But those were from the very first month of it's release maybe they turned that game into a masterpiece by now. (Don't think so though)

I could suggest LOTRO if you are fan of lotr series though. Too much RP potential and that game became F2P in a good way. Played Lotro for 2 years then few months after it turned F2P. It was actually better after turned into F2P. Well some people with names "xXx_VasiliZaitsev_xXx" and such appeared after moving to F2P and ruined some RP but as for PvP more people brang more joy to Ettenmoors !

Lotro had it's own unique PvP system btw.
Called PvMP (Player vs Monster Player) Players with their own charcters join Ettenmoors map and fight players who play with their monster characters (Instantly max level once created, includes wargs, goblins, uruks etc with similar classes to good side. Those characters progress by some other system i forgot rather than experience. There are castles to take for both sides etc really really great and exciting game both pvp and pve.)

Only drawback is it's old. It might lost most of it's playerbase and graphics and gameplay may seem odd compared to new gen mmorpgs.

I quit both RIFT and LOTRO cuz of this fucking cRPG btw :D Hitting 1-2-3-4-5 hotkeys to swing your sword started not to satisfy my after i taste cRPG.

Ye, I feel you Harun. My dream game is to have an MMO that has the M&B combat system. Different servers could also be designated for different playstyles, such as PVP/PVE/RP. The scariest things though are lag and balance.

If you haven't tried, try PW mod for Warband !!!
That mod has huge potential and a forced RP and good admined server is all i want ...

Sadly, in PW %70 of your time goes by explaining how the retard you just killed deserved it to an admin...
