Nostalgia! Games of our Past!

So I think one of the best feelings in the world is nostalgia. Being a gamer that can be many, many great games and memories. This thread doesn't have to be necessarily about the oldest thing you remember playing, but rather the one you enjoyed the most. For example my "golden age" of gaming was probably with the PS2. Now I could say tons of other games on tons of consoles and PC (Im pretty much a PC mainly kind of guy now). Like back in the day when I first started PC gaming, it was on Age of Empires 2: Age of Kings, and Rome: Total war. But the best time for me, like I said, the "golden age" was for the PS2. So please share your childhood with me, and relive some of these great games and memories with me!

I actually have a PS2. I wanted to acquire one and a bunch of old games just to relive all of the great games I played as a wee sperg lord. So I did. Here are some games that I currently own and some games I will be getting soon.

Games I currently own:

Games I will be getting at some point (hopefully)

Now there are a few exceptions on games that I really love, and played that shit out of when I was a kid, but got them for something else. Two examples are the Jak and Daxters series as well as the Ratchet and Clank series. Me and my friend got the HD remakes of the first three games for each series.

Here they be.

Games like San Andreas for PS2 are still always going to be some of my favorites.   I can honestly say that at the time of me playing any game that had been released up to any point when I'm playing a game, San Andreas was my favorite game ever.  So many nostalgic things about the game, and time of my life.  Put so much time into that game it's ridiculous.  Even played the Cops n Robbers mod for SA on my computer years and years after playing the game on PS2.

Then there's games on my PC from the late 90s and early 2000s I love.  Such as Ultima Online, the first Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six game (spending so much time prepping your team to go to check points and do certain things, only to have one get fucked and have to go back and modify it).  By far the most enjoyment I got from a game was Half-Life and all the free mods that I got to play because of it, most notably team fortress classic being my first baby, and then Counter-Strike being my next (but also games like Firearms, FrontLine Force, Day of Defeat, Insurgency mod, Pirates Vikings and Knights, Opposing Force CTF, the list goes on and on).

Zaxxon: First "3D" game that I saw come out.
(click to show/hide)

Robotron: 2 joysticks? 8 directions to move? 8 firing directions?? = Mind Blown
(click to show/hide)

Defender: Flying a spaceship with awesome firepower, all while saving humankind from alien abduction with the map bigger than the screen and a mini-map? ZOMG!
(click to show/hide)

Tempest: Geometric shaped maps with weird enemies in weirder shapes climbing up from the bottom of the geometric map like hellspawn bent on destroying you and your control is a flywheel like spinning knob with a fire button? Who comes up with this awesome shit??
(click to show/hide)

Galaxian and Galaga: And of course the first games that I made it past level 255 and caused the machine to freak out when it tried to go past the largest number that an 8 bit machine could handle, causing it to reboot but still keep my high score! Woo!
(click to show/hide)

I don't think that modern hardware has made any games better than these. Games nowadays are just different with more "realistic" graphics and a different idea of what is fun. But the gameplay of these old arcade classics was lost somewhere in the last 3 decades. I would like to have an arcade room in my house with cabinets that can choose between various old school games. I miss them

Those were great games! I remember Rainbow Six too, it was amazing how you could spend like half an hour prepping that team, just so that one group would end up failing at first door and got everyone killed.  :D

My golden age of gaming was around early 2000s too. Baldur's Gate 2, Nwn1, AoW:SM, Halo, CS:S, DoD:S...

But here's some of my favorites before that time:
