Apple tries to sell you overpriced adapters for everything. I wouldn't be surprised if you had to buy a "telephony adapter" for their next iPhone to actually enable phone calls. Apple fans would probably welcome this move, because they don't really use their phones anyway, they just have to own them.

yeah thats true, but on the other hand their magnetic power adapters are way superior to anything else and have saved my machine couple of times. My friend just got his brand new gaming comp destroyed cause his daughter tripped the wire.. ofc impossible to find, irreplacable plug.

Actually, that phone got destroyed by apple, because they patent the shit out of everything and stop progress.

Im glad we finally have a full fledged mac vs pc discussion lol..

Yeah, I agree, the patent shit is awful, but its the name of the game. Ofc they want to protect their stuff, or samsung will just steal it and patent it before them. The problem lies in the patent laws.

osx has terminal

Haha, I was about to bring this up. Microsoft and Apple both have perfectly functional OSes that the average user (even on the high nerdy end of things) can use to do pretty much anything they want, within reason. If you need something you can compile from the ground up, that is a whole 'nother bag of potatoes. But other than "I don't want to learn a new OS" or "video games" there's not much reason to pick one or the other.

I've owned apple desktops and built my own Windows desktops, and both survived about the same amount of time before upgrading to a newer system. The only apple product I don't like are the USB cords for ipods/iphones. There's no extra support near the ends, and the cord is fairly stiff. They pinch and fray too easily.

irl something shorted on the shuttle and laika overheated and died within a few hours of liftoff and for a brief while one could look up to the stars and see a light shooting across the sky that was actually a warm dog corpse slingshoting about the earth at thousands of miles per hour which was arguably humanity's greatest achievement so far

Their keyboards are awesome. Ofc some still prefer the nuclear proof PS2 keyboards...

what you talking about, osx has terminal where you can do all kinds of linux/unix shit.. I just used ffmpeg installed through macports to convert a video by command line.

ofc its going to be a little period before you understand osx is way way superior.. :D It's just a linux that works.. And most of it are open source as well. It's not hard to compile linux software for it either..  It's like a pc, without all the utter crap released for the platform.

But then if you are just using the terminal anyway why aren't you using some Linux distribution? When you say "a linux that works", what version exactly did not work? Finally, what do you mean by "utter crap released for the platform"? You don't need to install software you don't want, especially on free operating systems.

I'm not just using terminal. But for those occasions where I need some rare software or to do something that is simpler to do in Terminal, I use it. Macports is brilliant..

I tried Linux first time in 95-96, even played Abuse on it.. Then I've been trying it on and off in the time between. Every single time it has been some kind of nightmarish little problem. Usually with broken drivers. Installed backtrack a year ago on an older comp, and same shit. Got it to work eventually, but was a pain. I mean.. that's just my experience, and I'm by no means an expert.

Now it's like this: When I want something done I use OSX, when I want to fool around or play, windows.

Also, just to recap WHY I think Apple makes better stuff.. They produce a very low number of products, but many of them, which gives them an cost edge. In stead of maximizing profits sacrificing quality, they use better quality components. (FYI all electronics, even a simple resistor, can be bought in many different classes, up to Aerospace standard which is the highest afaik)

Their laptops are built in metal, which of course helps cooling them, and consequently make the electronics last longer. I suspect it's not exactly cheap to machine out, or even stamp aluminum like in my old one, compared to using plastic.  I'm sure the chassis is a relatively high part of the price you pay.

Now for the design. I don't care so much about the esthetics or for the logo. I don't care at all about the hipster value. I'm too old. :D  If you ever opened a mac, you will see they are beautiful on the inside as well, and that placement and design of every component are well thought out.

Performance, is top notch. Sure you can probably shave off 15% of the price to find a PC laptop with equally good specs, but 90% of the time, it will have a worse screen, obscure drivers, run hotter, worse trackpad, worse build quality, be physically bigger/heavier, and a much shorter lifespan if abused.

Sure Apple is evil, but I think less Evil than the pc hardware and general electronics producers who push and have pushed plastic crap, designed to break at consumers for decades. Apple is actually creating a market for quality shit. Samsung phones before iphone were not made to anywhere near the quality they are now.

So even non-apple users can thank apple that they have an easy to use OS and quality phones or laptop these days.

There are many versions of Linux, and they have actually been improving much faster than OSX or Windows. The most popular one for the average Joe is probably Ubuntu, which is really just a gratis Windows, if you use it at the level of the average Joe.

"Performance, is top notch. Sure you can probably shave off 15% of the price to find a PC laptop with equally good specs"

Unless you really don't want to look for a good deal (i.e. not paying for leds and a logo), it's more like one third of the price cheaper. And that's just laptops, which do have an inflated price even for pcs because well, you got to buy prebuilt. If you look for a good deal in desktops, the Apple equivalent (when it even exists) is sometimes more than twice the price.

And more importantly that's not counting the money that you'll spend after buying your Apple computer.

Now, I think you got a point here. Apple is by no way producing shit products or not being innovative (during the last 40 years anyway). However, they also play with illusions and marketing.

Have you ever had a phone that lasts six years?

I still have my Nokia 5110 from 1998. It would still work if I'd have a single band SIM (in fact I used it until 2008). I put nails into walls with that thing (I really did).

Sorry, linux cannot compare with OSX for the average Joe. (I wish it could)
As I've said, count in the lifetime of the product, and you will find it it last 2-3 times as long on average, thus being cheaper in the end.
They had ignored desktops for a long time, that's why I built a hackintosh! :D  It's true, you get more by building it yourself. Still, OSX on it is better and more stable than windows...
Another reason is support. I had to give up finding soundcard drivers for win7 on my mothers laptop. Some obscure chip long out of production. On a mac, since there are so few models, you will always find thousands of people with the exact same problem and hardware as you have. Try finding some support, drivers or even exact specs for any DELL vista bla bla 743985i/fx Scandinavia version..

Just pay the dough next you get a laptop.. You will not regret it. :D

Imagine what pains you would have if you tried to install Mac OS on this "older comp". It's funny how people always expect everything to work out of the box when "trying" Linux, but when they have to buy thousand dollar hardware to run another OS, it's fine. Same with Windows, to bring it to a state in which it's actually useful, you have to install all kinds of drivers and addon software, but somehow, that's okay. Oh, and the best is people comparing their pirated software like Photoshop and 3d Studio Max, which cost hundreds of dollars, to open source counterparts like Gimp and Blender.

It can easily nowadays. Personally I don't like Mint and Ubuntu, but if you've never used a PC before there's really no difference regarding the learning curve between them and OSX. It's all about what you're used to.

I always liked very basic Linux distributions (Arch, Gentoo, Debian, ...) because I liked to fool around with stuff. At work I ended up with Windows 8 and a heavily modified Cygwin which is pretty productive.

depends on what you regard as a useful state :P Windows is perfectly fine for the avg person like me. Same as IE, it gets tons of shit but ive never had a problem with it because it does really just what i want it to which is browse websites. had to ditch it and get chrome as crpg website stopped working on IE O.o People who are into computers or programming etc will always moan about stuff like windows but you have to remember its just not made for you, Its made for people to use office and do random crap ^^

As for phones i have a HTC one mini and its pretty damn good :D
i make terrible warband videos! https://youtu.be/jUdVGIOuULk
