lots of animals is slaughtered in the zoo this is just something the media liked for some reason and I don't understand the fuzz. if it was done in a proper way with respect for the creature then wtf

its like the grinde-whale "slaughter" as they call it. its been done for 100s of years for certain reasons without interfering with the synergy of nature and environment, but all of sudden its OH SO BAD and OH SO TERRIBLE because you see a lot of animals getting killed and because you see blood + animals = bad (in some peoples mind)

or well maybe im just a redneck, a redneck who love animals more than humans

id kill an animal for the greater good of the herd any day any time, after all, its "just" an animal. man is or should be the caretaker of the earth and then you have to do stuff like this on some occations.

see all the kids! they watch and are not disgusted in any way, I think its good. everyone should see and know how meat (eventho this is giraffe i wonder how it taste?!) is really brought to the table.

and many (or most?) women, if they get pregnant and they get to understand that their baby will become handicapped in some way, will choose abortion.

I think it's bad. Children tend to consider everything they see/read/hear as a norm, just because they are still learning so much about this world. Slaughtering the animal (which was unnesessary in the first place) in a way it was done is not normal, I believe.

Agree, everyone should see it, but not while being a child, for the reason I stated above. The most sad part is that parents invited their children by themselves.

whats all the fuss about? they did it humanely. They could have just dropped the giraffe into the lion's cage, and take it that route, but they took people's feelings into consideration about a giraffe and still get a bunch of protest? I dont understand what the problem is.

back in the day, kids helped with everything in the household, including slaughtering of the households stock, ducks, cows what not.

I think that todays kids is abit, well overprotected, in the sense that few of them really understand how meat is brought to the table. to them, meat is like some factory product that we have unlimited supply of. try ask some kid who live in big city if they ever seen a cow, the sea or know where/how the milk comes from, you will be terrified. we are very (too?) far from nature and our roots imo.

I would have loved to see the lions feast upon Marius's carcass. It would have been really interesting.
And getting rid of that giraffe was completely necessary in that situation. Why would you sell a giraffe when you could feed hungry lions and provide a great educational display as well as advertising the zoo?

Or is money more important than teaching children to you?

so, your saying learning from a book is more educational than actually learning anatomy hands on? It wasn't forced upon the children to observe animal intestines / lions eating.

Children in your parents (maybe grandparents) generation which were living in the countryside took part in the prozess of slaughtering animals on a regular basis. they had to hold the bucked to catch the blood and help with all kind of things. This was just a normal part of life. So everybody chillax.
It's only fair to let the children understand where their meat is comming from.

Children from today are simply pussies. It's more than normal to kill animals. After all there has to be some way to get the meat.

I was about 5 when I first helped my grand ma killing a chicken. Later on I also saw the slaughter of pigs and others. It's part of life.
Though it's ofc weird that they pick a giraffe in the first place which is not so common in Europe as a cow for example.
