I like the idea of new players starting at level 20. Fuck, even I hate the 1-20 grind. The only fun part is getting to dick around as a peasant.
Honestly the typical RPG grind of, "Play more to get better to be able to actually play" is pretty simplistic and shitty, as a largely statistical and generally unpleasant experience. Playing's a god damned chore, though maybe I'm just disillusioned. To contrast: I've been playing (my friend's copy lul) of Bf4 recently and I greatly admire the leveling system there, if only because play time and skillful play are rewarded with new content--weapons, armor, upgrades, pimping camouflage patterns.
I don't think cRPG can really break outside it's grindfest roots, though. I propose just making it less of a chore whenever possible, like an easier 1-20, and more rewards for getting to 30+.
