When I re-read this thread I found out Khorins argumentation was perfectly worded and clear from the very first post, not sure why I felt like I need to try and elaborate this (unsuccessfully )

Agnosticism is an artificial term made up by people scared to say that there's no god Outside of religion there's no such distinction, cause statements are based on facts (more or less), not belief. Noone claims to be agnostic on the subject of ufo, even though its nonexistence can not be proved. As long as proves of its existence aren't swown noone resonable will say that he "believes" in its existence.

I've met a huge number of atheists who care more about trying to prove themselves right than many of the theists i've met

Wrong. UFO stands for Unidentified Flying Object. The Air Force opened Project Blue Book to study the reports of them. They still have hundreds of UFO's on the books.

Every religion is based on lies and fairy tales, and thats fine, if u belive in that kind of thing. Realistically religion used to be a great way of controling people and getting them to live their lives in a certain way. but we've come so much further than that now, it's not needed anymore, and it causes/ has caused so much trouble, war and death that could have been avoided if people didn't blindly believe in stupid outdated religion.

I see it everyday, i live in one of the most multi-cultural cities in the UK and the amount of religious based segregation is unreal, theres so much hate and rivaly, and for what?

You're forgetting that people try to make laws/teach revisionist history + science/do crazy batshit things in general based on their religious beliefs.

I think it's far less offensive to be considered stupid or ignorant for your belief vs deserving hell, but I just try to steer clear of those crazy people handing out flyers and yelling things in subway stations.

You're right, religion is victimised  I'm very far from telling anyone what to do, especially what to believe, though don't see any reason why should I restrain myself from saying what I think about relgion. And if it "annoys the shit out of you"? Well, don't read then would be my advice probably.

It's how it always works and always has. Atheists play the exact same game, say the exact same things and employ the exact same arguments as when 2 religions 'discuss' their differences.

Is it a lie if you believe it? And isn't attempting to understand the world around you in ways you can comprehend and control one of the qualities we still nurture today? That was early science. And western literature and science came from the monasteries.

The idea that religion was created as a means of control, IMO implies a little too much premeditation 'Ok, i'll start this off, then a couple of hundred years later my descendants can start to reap the rewards, nyehehehe, it's the perfect crime...' It cant be denied that this is what it became at various points though, but that's just opportunists in any age, will abuse any given system to benefit themselves, that's a given in any competitive society.
We always think we've come so much further, in the Bible they think they've come a long way, in the Middle Ages they'd come a long way, Victorian values, today... always the same: 'our age best age', 'our values best values'. What is and isn't 'needed' is in the eye of the beholder.

We're tribal whether we like it or not, if it isn't religion it's skin colour, or dialect or just geographical location.

Do people commit violence and abuse in the name of religions? Yes. So we should get rid of religion?
Do people commit violence over land and property? Yes. Should we remove land and all property?
Do people commit violence over women? ....

You get my point?

The types of people who abuse or even kill over 'religion' would not be any saner or less predisposed to being an ass if religion did not exist, they'd find something. It's the excuse they need, and there's never a shortage of those.

My point is it's easy to 'fight the establishment' now, people want to feel like rebels, but they are more than welcome to have their own beliefs now, they'd rather pretend they're still fighting an oppressive force though.

Guys who hate religion and being told what to believe all meeting up to discuss their beliefs and try and convert people to believe the same xD it's hilarious. Or like when Cromwell overthrew the English monarchy cos it was immoral and backwards, he led an entire Civil War to make a new and progressive government, and when he won he took the title of 'Lord Protector' - that allowed him to rule as the head of state, a title that his eldest son would inherit after him and.... Lol. When people realized his hypocrisy his head ended up on a spike. He just ended up being a King with a different title. Vocal Atheists are just religious extremists with a different title.
